Irreducibility testing over local fields

The purpose of this paper is to describe a method to determine whether a bivariate polynomial with rational coefficients is irreducible when regarded as an element in , the ring of polynomials with coefficients from the field of Laurent series in with rational coefficients. This is achieved by computing certain associated Puiseux expansions, and as a result, a polynomial-time complexity bound for the number of bit operations required to perform this irreducibility test is computed.

     

Effective Hamiltonian approach to doubly degenerate electronic states

Effective vibronic Hamiltonian models are built for E ⊗e Jahn-Teller systems and analytical solutions are obtained through Lie algebraic methods. Although approximate, we show that these models allow in particular to recover the possible ground state crossover when quadratic couplings are present. The equivalence of E ⊗e and G' ⊗e vibronic systems in cubic symmetry is precisely established through a particular realization of the electronic operators for an orbital quadruplet. We show how this equivalence is broken by a rovibronic interaction which, for a G' ⊗e system, still gives an exactly solvable model.     

Abelian Subgroups of Garside Groups

In this article, we show that for every abelian subgroup H of a Garside group, some conjugate g ^?1 Hg consists of ultra summit elements and the centralizer of H is a finite index subgroup of the normalizer of H. Combining with the results on translation numbers in Garside groups, we obtain an easy proof of the algebraic flat torus theorem for Garside groups and solve several algorithmic problems concerning abelian subgroups of Garside groups.     

NorTRACK product tracking system—development and implementation

This paper presents the experience gained by developers and users with implementation and operation of NorTRACK^TM, a real-time computerized product tracking system. A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) collects and transfers data in real time to NorTRACK’s Oracle^TM database on a Windows NT^TM server network. After extensive development and Beta testing at MDS Nordion’s Canadian Irradiation Centre in Montreal, Canada, NorTRACK was installed in January 1997 with a new irradiation facility in Ethicon Endo-Surgery Inc.’s Albuquerque plant in the United States. NorTRACK communicates with the irradiator control and safety system, the plant's central manufacturing database, an innovative pallet staging and tote loading robot, and an automated dosimetry reading system. This integrated system allows the sterilization facility to monitor the irradiator operation and the flow of many products, through varied processing modes, continuously and reliably. As a result of operating with NorTRACK, both MDS Nordion’s CIC facility and the Endo-Surgery manufacturing site, are beginning to realize unique benefits in their respective operations. MDS Nordion is also initiating several future product enhancements and additional productivity modules. This paper describes the NorTRACK system, the various stages of the development project and Beta tests, and the experience of the users to date in their operations.     

Nonbinary quantum error-correcting codes from algebraic curves

We give a new exposition and proof of a generalized CSS construction for nonbinary quantum error-correcting codes. Using this we construct nonbinary quantum stabilizer codes with various lengths, dimensions, and minimum distances from algebraic curves. We also give asymptotically good nonbinary quantum codes from a Garcia–Stichtenoth tower of function fields which are constructible in polynomial time.     

低功耗互补传输门绝热逻辑和时序电路的设计

研究了采用二相非交叠功率时钟的绝热触发器及时序电路的设计，介绍了采用二相无交叠功率时钟的互补传输门绝热逻辑（CPAL）电路，并分析了其工作原理．该电路利用nMOS管自举原理对负载进行全绝热驱动，从而减小了电路整体功耗，且CPAL能耗几乎与工作频率无关．提出了性能良好的低功耗绝热D、T和JK触发器，并与其他几种绝热触发器进行功耗比较．给出了绝热时序电路的一般设计方法，并作为实例采用应用绝热D触发器设计了十进制计数器．SPICE程序模拟表明：设计的电路具有正确的逻辑功能及低功耗的优点．     

Investment optimization on port’s development by fuzzy integer programming

In this research, the main purpose is to formulate a model to determine the optimum investment on port development from national investment prospective; on the other hand, costs and benefits are calculated from consumer and investor’s viewpoint. The formulated model is an integer-programming model. The emphasis is on how to formulate an investment optimization problem where cargo operation, investment costs, cargo-handling capacity, cargo transportation network, and the world maritime fleet constraints are included. Fuzzy numbers are used for cargo forecast study results. The output of the model is the type of design ships and design berths which are needed in each sub period, so that the port planner (the government) will find out the optimum development plan of port in each sub period when there is uncertainty in cargo handling forecast (fuzzy numbers).

A coding method for a sequent calculus of propositional logic

The paper deals with a coding method for a sequent calculus of the propositional logic. The method is based on the sequent calculus. It allows us to determine if a formula is derivable in the calculus without constructing a derivation tree. The main advantage of the coding method is its compactness in comparison with derivation trees of the sequent calculus. The coding method can be used as a decision procedure for the propositional logic.
