On the Patterson–Sullivan Measure for Geometrically Finite Groups Acting on Complex or Quaternionic Hyperbolic Space

The goal of this paper is to provide a tool, the Global Measure Formula, that will facilitate the study of the limit set of discrete geometrically finite groups of isometries of the rank one symmetric spaces. We consider the shadow of a ball from a fixed reference point onto the boundary, and prove a formula that describes the measure of the shadow in terms of the center of the shadowed ball, generalizing a result from real hyperbolic geometry.     

On co-semihereditary rings

A ringR is left co-semihereditary (strongly left co-semihereditary) if every finitely cogenerated factor of a finitely cogenerated (arbitrary) injective leftR-module is injective. A left co-semihereditary ring, which is not strongly left co-semihereditary, is given to answer a question of Miller and Tumidge in the negative. If _R U _S defines a Morita duality,R is proved to be left co-semihereditary (left semihereditmy) if and only ifS is right semihereditary (right co-semihereditary). Assuming thatS⩾R is an almost excellent extension,S is shown to be (strongly) right co-semihereditary if and only ifR is (strongly) right co-semihereditary. Synthesis of polysiltrimethylenes with trimethylsilyl groups in the branch of the main chain

The thermally initiated and platinum-catalyzed polymerization of 1-silacyclobutanes with substitutents containing a trimethylsilyl group was carried out. Soluble, high-molecular-weight, heterochain siltrimethylene polymers were obtained, containing trimethylsilyl groups removed from the main chain by various bridges.A. V. On the rigidity of sphericalt-designs that are orbits of finite reflection groups

The concept of rigid sphericalt-designs was introduced by Bannai. He conjectured that there is a functionf(t, d) such that ifX is a sphericalt design in thed-dimensional Euclidean space so that |X|>f(t, d), theX is non-rigid. Furthermore, he asked to find examples of rigid but not tight sperical designs. In the present article we shall investigate the case whenX is an orbit of a finite reflection group and prove thatX is rigid iff tight for the groupsA _n ,B _n ,C _n ,D _n ,E ₆,E ₇,F ₄,I ₃.Research was partially supported by Hungarian National Research fund Grant No. 4267.     

Boundary G/G Theory and Topological Poisson–Lie Sigma Model

We study a boundary version of the gauged WZW model with a Poisson–Lie group G as the target. The Poisson–Lie structure of G is used to define the Wess–Zumino term of the action on surfaces with boundary. We clarify the relation of the model to the topological Poisson sigma model with the dual Poisson–Lie group G ^* as the target and show that the phase space of the theory on a strip is essentially the Heisenberg double of G introduced by Semenov–Tian–Shansky.     

Existence of many ergodic absolutely continuous invariant measures for piecewise-expandingC 2 chaotic transformations in ℝ2 on a fixed number of partitions

Let Ω be a region in ℝⁿ and letp = P_i ) _i ^1m , be a partition ofΩ into a finite number of closed subsets having piecewise C² boundaries of finite(n - 1 )dimensional measure. Let τ:Ω→Ω be piecewise C² onP where, τ_i = τ|p_i is aC ² diffeomorphism onto its image, and expanding in the sense that there exists α > 1 such that for anyi = 1, 2,...,m ‖Dτ_i ^-1 ‖ < α^-1, where Dτ_i ^-1 is the derivative matrixτ _i ^- 1 and |‖·‖ is the Euclidean matrix norm. By means of an example, we will show that the simple bound of one-dimensional dynamics cannot be generalized to higher dimensions. In fact, we will construct a piecewise expanding C² transformation on a fixed partition with a finite number of elements in ℝ², but which has an arbitrarily large number of ergodic, absolutely continuous invariant measures     

Light scattering by groups of spherical particles

Light scattering by groups of spherical particles is considered. It is shown that the structure of the groups and their orientational distribution can be judged from the spectrum and polarization of the scattered light. Cyclic reduction and FACR methods for piecewise hermite bicubic orthogonal spline collocation

Cyclic reduction and Fourier analysis-cyclic reduction (FACR) methods are presented for the solution of the linear systems which arise when orthogonal spline collocation with piecewise Hermite bicubics is applied to boundary value problems for certain separable partial differential equations on a rectangle. On anN×N uniform partition, the cyclic reduction and Fourier analysis-cyclic reduction methods requireO(N ²log₂ N) andO(N ²log₂log₂ N) arithmetic operations, respectively.     

Pure quantitative characterization of finite simple groups

Let G be a finite group, and let π _e (G) be the set of all element orders of G. In this short paper we prove that π _e (B _n (q)) ≠ π _e (C _n (q)) for all odd q.
