Ample Vector Bundles with Small g − q

Let X be a smooth complex projective variety and let Z ? X be a smooth submanifold of dimension ≥ 2, which is the zero locus of a section of an ample vector bundle ? of rank dim X ? dim Z ≥ 2 on X. Let H be an ample line bundle on X, whose restriction H _Z to Z is generated by global sections. The structure of triplets (X,?,H) as above is described under the assumption that the curve genus of the corank-1 vector bundle ? ⊕ H ^{⊕ (dim Z?1)} is ≤ h ¹( _X ) + 2.     

When Summands of Completely Decomposable Modules Are Completely Decomposable

We examine when summands of completely decomposable modules over a domain R are again completely decomposable. We show that this is the case if R is an h-local Prüfer domain. If R is 1-dimensional Noetherian, then the problem reduces locally if almost all localizations are integrally closed. If R is 1-dimensional Noetherian and local, then the integral closure of R must have at most two maximal ideals.     

Fundamental Sets of Functions on Locally Compact Abelian Groups

Let G be a locally compact Abelian group, and let X be a compact set of G. Given a positive definite function ?: G × G → ? whose real part is continuous at neutral element of G, we research a necessary and sufficient setting for the linear span of the set {x ∈ X → ?(x ? y): y ∈ X} to be dense in C(X) in the topology of uniform convergence. The context treated that is abstract encompasses classical cases of the literature, while other examples are entirely new.     

Configurations in abelian categories. III. Stability conditions and identities

This is the third in a series on configurations in an abelian category A. Given a finite poset (I,?), an (I,?)-configuration(σ,ι,π) is a finite collection of objects σ(J) and morphisms ι(J,K) or in A satisfying some axioms, where J,K are subsets of I. Configurations describe how an object X in A decomposes into subobjects.The first paper defined configurations and studied moduli spaces of configurations in A, using the theory of Artin stacks. It showed well-behaved moduli stacks ObjA,MA(I,?) of objects and configurations in A exist when A is the abelian category coh(P) of coherent sheaves on a projective scheme P, or mod-KQ of representations of a quiver Q. The second studied algebras of constructible functions and stack functions on ObjA.This paper introduces (weak) stability conditions(τ,T,?) on A. We show the moduli spaces , , of τ-semistable, indecomposable τ-semistable and τ-stable objects in class α are constructible sets in ObjA, and some associated configuration moduli spaces constructible in MA(I,?), so their characteristic functions and are constructible.We prove many identities relating these constructible functions, and their stack function analogues, under pushforwards. We introduce interesting algebras of constructible and stack functions, and study their structure. In the fourth paper we show are independent of (τ,T,?), and construct invariants of A,(τ,T,?).     

Constructing pairing-friendly hyperelliptic curves using Weil restriction

A pairing-friendly curve is a curve over a finite field whose Jacobian has small embedding degree with respect to a large prime-order subgroup. In this paper we construct pairing-friendly genus 2 curves over finite fields Fq whose Jacobians are ordinary and simple, but not absolutely simple. We show that constructing such curves is equivalent to constructing elliptic curves over Fq that become pairing-friendly over a finite extension of Fq. Our main proof technique is Weil restriction of elliptic curves. We describe adaptations of the Cocks-Pinch and Brezing-Weng methods that produce genus 2 curves with the desired properties. Our examples include a parametric family of genus 2 curves whose Jacobians have the smallest recorded ρ-value for simple, non-supersingular abelian surfaces.     

The correspondence between multivariate spline ideals and piecewise algebraic varieties

As a piecewise polynomial with a certain smoothness, the spline plays an important role in computational geometry. The algebraic variety is the most important subject in classical algebraic geometry. As the zero set of multivariate splines, the piecewise algebraic variety is a generalization of the algebraic variety. In this paper, the correspondence between piecewise algebraic varieties and spline ideals is discussed. Furthermore, Hilbert’s Nullstellensatz for the piecewise algebraic variety is also studied.     

On quasi‐varieties of multiple valued logic models

We extend the concept of quasi‐variety of first‐order models from classical logic to multiple valued logic (MVL) and study the relationship between quasi‐varieties and existence of initial models in MVL. We define a concept of ‘Horn sentence’ in MVL and based upon our study of quasi‐varieties of MVL models we derive the existence of initial models for MVL ‘Horn theories’. © 2011 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co.
