Separable subgroups of mapping class groups

We investigate separability questions for the mapping class group of a surface. While this group is not subgroup separable in general, we prove a large family of interesting subgroups are separable. This includes many classically studied subgroups such as solvable subgroups, Heegaard and Handlebody groups, geometric subgroups, and all the terms in the Johnson filtration.     

Symmetric incidence groupoids

In [7] point-reflection geometries were studied which can be derived from commutative kinematic spaces without involutory elements. But the class of point-reflection geometries is larger. For example, elliptic planes with their reflections cannot be derived from commutative kinematic spaces. Here we investigate a larger class of reflection geometries.This paper was sponsored by Vigoni Program 1999.     

Multiple harmonic series related to multiple Euler numbers

In this paper, we define the multiple Euler numbers and consider some multiple harmonic series of Mordell-Tornheim's type, which is a partial sum of the Mordell-Tornheim zeta series defined by Matsumoto. Indeed, we prove a certain reducibility of these series as well as the multiple zeta values.     

The solvable radical of Sylow factorizable groups

Let G be a finite group. A complete Sylow product of G is a product of Sylow subgroups of G, one for each prime divisor of |G|. We shall call G a Sylow factorizable group if it is equal to at least one of its complete Sylow products. We prove that if G is a Sylow factorizable group then the intersection of all complete Sylow products of G is equal to the solvable radical of G. We generalize the concepts and the result to Sylow products which involve an arbitrary subset of the prime divisors of |G|. Received: 26 January 2005     

Random Walks And The Colored Jones Function

It can be conjectured that the colored Jones function of a knot can be computed in terms of counting paths on the graph of a planar projection of a knot. On the combinatorial level, the colored Jones function can be replaced by its weight system. We give two curious formulas for the weight system of a colored Jones function: one in terms of the permanent of a matrix associated to a chord diagram, and another in terms of counting paths of intersecting chords. A $\Gamma$-convergence result for doubling metric measures and associated perimeters

Abstract. In this paper we study the notion of perimeter associated with doubling metric measures or strongly weights. We prove that the metric perimeter in the sense of L. Ambrosio and M. Miranda jr. coincides with the metric Minkowski content and can be obtained also as a -limit of Modica-Mortola type degenerate integral functionals. A gas-kinetic scheme for shallow-water equations with source terms

In this paper, the Kinetic Flux Vector Splitting (KFVS) scheme is extended to solving the shallow water equations with source terms. To develop a well-balanced scheme between the source term and the flow convection, the source term effect is accounted in the flux evaluation across cell interfaces. This leads to a modified gas-kinetic scheme with particular application to the shallow water equations with bottom topography. Numerical experiments show better resolution of the unsteady solution than conventional finite difference method and KFVS method with little additional cost. Moreover, some positivity properties of the gas-kinetic scheme is established.     

The Hopf Property for Subgroups of Hyperbolic Groups

A group is said to be Hopfian if every surjective endomorphism of the group is injective. We show that finitely generated subgroups of torsion-free hyperbolic groups are Hopfian. Our proof generalizes a theorem of Sela (Topology 35 (2) 1999, 301–321).     

S[a,b]类中边界Nevanlinna-Pick插值(Ⅱ)

继续作者最近的研究,用所谓的Hankel向量方法建立S[a,b]函数类中带边界插值数据的Nevanlinna-Pick插值问题与[a,b]上的某种带约束条件的Hausdorff矩量问题之间解集之间明确的一一对应关系.通过N[a,b]函数类与S[a,b]函数类之间的联系,从而由BNP(N[a,b])问题的可解性准则和解的参数化描述获得BNP(S[a,b)问题的可解性准则和解的参数化表示.
