Combings of groups and the grammar of reparameterization

A new construction of combings is used to distinguish between several previously indistinguishable classes of groups associated to the theory of automatic groups and non-positive curvature in group theory. We construct synchronously bounded combings for a class of groups that are neither bicombable nor automatic. The linguistic complexity of these combings is analysed: in many cases the language of words in the combing is an indexed language.     

Linear operators in Clifford algebras

We consider the real vector space structure of the algebra of linear endomorphisms of a finite-dimensional real Clifford algebra (2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8). A basis of that space is constructed in terms of the operators M _{eI, eJ} defined by xe _I · x · e _J , where the e _I are the generators of the Clifford algebra and I is a multi-index (3, 7).In particular, it is shown that the family (M _{eI, eJ} ) is exactly a basis in the even case.     

On coherent states for the simplest quantum groups

The coherent states for the simplest quantum groups (q-Heisenberg-Weyl, SU _q (2) and the discrete series of representations of SU _q (1, 1)) are introduced and their properties investigated. The corresponding analytic representations, path integrals, and q-deformation of Berezin's quantization on , a sphere, and the Lobatchevsky plane are discussed.     

A Semigroup Approach to Boundary Feedback Systems

In this paper we convert a (linear abstract) initial boundary value problem into an abstract Cauchy problem on some product space and use semigroup methods to solve it. In particular, we apply spectral theory in order to discuss stability under boundary feedback.     

A New Inertia Theorem for Stein Equations,Inertia of Invertible Hermitian Block Toeplitz Matrices and Matrix Orthogonal Polynomials

In this paper we present an inertia result for Stein equations with an indefinite right hand side. This result is applied to establish connnections between the inertia of invertible hermitian block Toeplitz matrices and associated orthogonal polynomials.     

Spaces from pieces IV

We are going to investigate simultaneous extensions of various topological structures (i.e. traces on several subsets at the same time are prescribed), also with separation axioms T₀, T₁, symmetry (in the sense of Part I, § 3), Riesz property, Lodato property. The following questions will be considered: (i) Under what conditions is there an extension? (ii) How can the finest extension be described? (iii) Is there a coarsest extension? (iv) Can we say more about extensions of two structures than in the general case? (v) Assume that certain subfamilies (e.g. the finite ones) can be extended; does the whole family have an extension, too? The general categorial results from Part I will be applied whenever possible (even they are not really needed).     

Remarques sur les m\'ethodes de projection pour l'approximation des \'equations de Navier--Stokes

Summary. L'objet de cet article est de montrer que les estimations de convergence sur la pression pour les m\'ethodes de projection d\'ecrites dans \cite{Shen1} et \cite{Shen2} ne sont pas obtenues correctement car elles sont toutes bas\'ees sur une in\'egalit\'e fausse. Il semble qu'on ait besoin d'une convergence en de la vitesse dans pour d\'emontrer les estimations de convergence sur la pression en . La question de savoir si la m\'ethode de projection a un taux de convergence pour la pression plus \'elev\'e que reste ouverte. Received June 1, 1993

On the Durrmeyer-type modification of some discrete approximation operators
