Chain homogeneous Souslin algebras

Assuming Jensen's principle ?⁺ we construct Souslin algebras all of whose maximal chains are pairwise isomorphic as total orders, thereby answering questions of Koppelberg and Todor?evi?.     

Compact,convex sets in R n and a new banach lattice. II.- Application: An approximation problem.

We develop a calculus structure in the Banach lattice introduced in a preceding paper, having in mind an approximation problem appearing in non-smooth optimization. We show that the essential results depend as much on the order structure as on the analytical one.     

Optimal error estimates for an approximation of degenerate parabolic problems

A fully discrete scheme for a class of multidimensional degenerate parabolic equations is proposed. The discretization is given by $supoesup piecewise linear finite elements in space and backward differences in time (the smoothing procedure is avoided). Numerical integration is used; hence the proposed method is easy to implement. Optimal error estimates in energy norms are proved for the solutions.

Effect of Epoxidation of Carbocyclic Double Bonds on Conformational Flexibility of 1(10)E,4E-Germacranolides

The effect of substitution of double bonds by epoxy groups in 1(10)E,4E-germacranolides is studied by molecular mechanics. The probabilities of forming conformers in the epoxy derivatives are determined. Barriers to possible conformational transitions are estimated     

Rough isometry and Dirichlet finite harmonic functions on Riemannian manifolds

We prove that the dimension of harmonic functions with finite Dirichlet integral is invariant under rough isometries between Riemannian manifolds satisfying the local conditions, expounded below. This result directly generalizes those of Kanai, of Grigor'yan, and of Holopainen. We also prove that the dimension of harmonic functions with finite Dirichlet integral is preserved under rough isometries between a Riemannian manifold satisfying the same local conditions and a graph of bounded degree; and between graphs of bounded degree. These results generalize those of Holopainen and Soardi, and of Soardi, respectively. Received: 23 July 1998 / Revised version: 10 February 1999     

A branch-and-cut method for 0-1 mixed convex programming

We generalize the disjunctive approach of Balas, Ceria, and Cornuéjols [2] and devevlop a branch-and-cut method for solving 0-1 convex programming problems. We show that cuts can be generated by solving a single convex program. We show how to construct regions similar to those of Sherali and Adams [20] and Lovász and Schrijver [12] for the convex case.
