In this paper we present an inertia result for Stein equations with an indefinite right hand side. This result is applied to establish connnections between the inertia of invertible hermitian block Toeplitz matrices and associated orthogonal polynomials.  相似文献

We establish the following Helly-type theorem: Let ${\cal K}$ be a family of compact sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$. If every d + 1 (not necessarily distinct) members of ${\cal K}$ intersect in a starshaped set whose kernel contains a translate of set A, then $\cap \{ K : K\; \hbox{in}\; {\cal K} \}$ also is a starshaped set whose kernel contains a translate of A. An analogous result holds when ${\cal K}$ is a finite family of closed sets in $\mathbb{R}^d$. Moreover, we have the following planar result: Define function f on $\{0, 1, 2\}$ by f(0) = f(2) = 3, f(1) = 4. Let ${\cal K}$ be a finite family of closed sets in the plane. For k = 0, 1, 2, if every f(k) (not necessarily distinct) members of ${\cal K}$ intersect in a starshaped set whose kernel has dimension at least k, then $\cap \{K : K\; \hbox{in}\; {\cal K}\}$ also is a starshaped set whose kernel has dimension at least k. The number f(k) is best in each case.Received: 4 June 2002  相似文献

Summary. In this paper, we derive a posteriori error estimates for the finite element approximation of quadratic optimal control problem governed by linear parabolic equation. We obtain a posteriori error estimates for both the state and the control approximation. Such estimates, which are apparently not available in the literature, are an important step towards developing reliable adaptive finite element approximation schemes for the control problem. The existence of infinitely many solutions of the following Dirichlet problem for p-mean curvature operator: is considered, where Θ is a bounded domain in R n (n>p>1) with smooth boundary ∂Θ. Under some natural conditions together with some conditions weaker than (AR) condition, we prove that the above problem has infinitely many solutions by a symmetric version of the Mountain Pass Theorem if . We investigate the distribution of the numbers x∈[1,p] for which all lie in a subset of the set of multiplicative inverses modulo a prime p. Here the ai are integers coprime to p and the numbers are distinct .  相似文献

It is well known that nice conditions on the canonical module of a ring have a strong impact in the study of strong F-regularity and F-purity. For example, in the Gorenstein (or even -Gorenstein) case strong F-regularity is equivalent to weak F-regularity, and it is conjectured that this is true in general. In this note, we will show how to use the double cover of a ring to obtain sufficient conditions for strong F-regularity and F-purity. Our results involve a closure operation for a pair of ideals that could be of relevance for the conjecture mentioned above.  相似文献

Let A be an artin algebra and eA an idempotent with add(eAA)=add(D(AAe)). Then a projective resolution of AeeAe gives rise to tilting complexes for A, where P(l) is of term length l+1. In particular, if A is self-injective, then is self-injective and has the same Nakayama permutation as A. In case A is a finite dimensional algebra over a field and eAe is a Nakayama algebra, a projective resolution of eAe over the enveloping algebra of eAe gives rise to two-sided tilting complexes {T(2l)}l?1 for A, where T(2l) is of term length 2l+1. In particular, if eAe is of Loewy length two, then we get tilting complexes {T(l)}l?1 for A, where T(l) is of term length l+1.  相似文献
