On some global well-posedness and asymptotic results for quasilinear parabolic equations

We prove that the quasilinear parabolic initial-boundary value problem (1.1) below is globally well-posed in a class of high order Sobolev solutions, and that these solutions possess compact, regular attractors ast+.     

There are uncountably many universal topological planes

We prove the existence of uncountably many nonisomorphic topological projective planes, each universal in the sense that it contains an isomorphic copy of every pseudoline arrangement.     

Three distinct distances in the plane

Second-order subdifferentials of C1,1 functions and optimality conditions

We present second-order subdifferentials of Clarke's type of C ^1,1 functions, defined in Banach spaces with separable duals. One of them is an extension of the generalized Hessian matrix of such functions in ⁿ , considered by J. B. H.-Urruty, J. J. Strodiot and V. H. Nguyen. Various properties of these subdifferentials are proved. Second-order optimality conditions (necessary, sufficient) for constrained minimization problems with C ^1,1 data are obtained.This work was partially supported by the National Foundation for Scientific Investigations in Bulgaria under contract No. MM-406/1994.     

An embedding theorem in Lorentz-Zygmund spaces

We study Sobolev embedding theorems in Lorentz-Zygmund spaces. Some limiting cases are considered.Supported by M.U.R.S.T. (1990).     

α-Sober spaces via the orthogonal closure operator

Each ordinal equipped with the upper topology is a T ₀-space. It is well known that for =2 the reflective hull of in Top₀ is the subcategory of sober spaces. Here, we define -sober space for each 2 in such a way that the reflective hull of in Top₀ is the subcategory of -sober spaces. Moreover, we obtain an order-preserving bijective correspondence between a proper class of ordinals and the corresponding (epi)reflective hulls. Norm-graphs and bipartite turán numbers

For everyt>1 and positiven we construct explicit examples of graphsG with |V (G)|=n, |E(G)|c _t ·n ^2–1/t which do not contain a complete bipartite graghK _t,t !+1 This establishes the exact order of magnitude of the Turán numbers ex (n, K _t,s ) for any fixedt and allst!+1, improving over the previous probabilistic lower bounds for such pairs (t, s). Zero cycles on conic fibrations and a conjecture of Bloch

Let X be a smooth projective surface over a number field k. Let (CH₀(X)) denote the Chow group of zero-cyles modulo rational equivalence on X. Let CH₀(X) be the subgroup of CH ₀(X) consisting of classes which vanish when going over to an arbitrary completion of k. Bloch put forward a conjecture asserting that this group is isomorphic to the Tate-Shafarevich group of a certain Galois module atttached to X. In this paper, we disprove this general conjecture. We produce a conic bundle X over an elliptic curve, for which the group (CH₀(X) is not zero, but the Galois-theoretic Tate-Shafarevich group vanishes.     

Topological hochschild homology of extensions of ?/p? by polynomials, and of ?[x]/(xn) and ?[x]/(xn?1)

Topological Hochschild homology is calculated for the rings /p[x]/(f(x)) (where p is prime and f(x) /p[x] any polynomial), [x]/(x ⁿ) and [x]/(x ⁿ–1). A spectral sequence argument is used for calculating the homology of the topological Hochschild homology spectrum, from which its stable homotopy structure can be read off since the spectrum is known for a priori reasons to be a restricted product of Eilenberg-MacLane spectra.     

The dimension of the finite subsets κ

We answer a question of M.
