Poincaré’s inequalities and Talagrand’s concentration phenomenon for the exponential distribution

Summary. We present a simple proof, based on modified logarithmic Sobolev inequalities, of Talagrand’s concentration inequality for the exponential distribution. We actually observe that every measure satisfying a Poincaré inequality shares the same concentration phenomenon. We also discuss exponential integrability under Poincaré inequalities and its consequence to sharp diameter upper bounds on spectral gaps. Maximal inner spaces and Hankel operators on the Bergman space

The paper deals with two closely related questions about the Bergman space of the unit disk. First, we investigate a special class of invariant subspaces of the Bergman space, namely, invariant subspaces induced by certain Hankel operators. We show that such spaces always have the co-dimension 1 or 2 property; and we determine exactly when such a space has the co-dimension 1 property. Second, we introduce the notion of inner spaces in the Bergman space and give several characterizations of when an inner space is maximal.Research supported by the National Science Foundation     

Über die Magnetischen Eigenschaften der Cobaltate Na6CoS4, Na6CoSe4 und K6CoS4

Magnetic Properties of the Cobaltates Na₆CoS₄, Na₆CoSe₄, and K₆CoS₄ The alkali metal cobalt chalcogenides Na₆CoS₄, Na₆CoSe₄, and K₆CoS₄ crystallize in the space group P6₃mc with Z = 4. The structure is characterized by isolated [CoX₄]-tetrahedra. The magnetic susceptibilities show Curie-Weiss behaviour. The deviations at low temperatures are caused by antiferromagnetic interactions. The magnetic moments are discussed with regard to ligand-field parameters.     

Spectral operators generated by damped hyperbolic equations

We announce a series of results on the spectral analysis for a class of nonselfadjoint opeators, which are the dynamics generators for the systems governed by hyperbolic equations containing dissipative terms. Two such equations are considered: the equation of nonhomogeneous damped string and the 3-dimensional damped wave equation with spacially nonhomogeneous spherically symmetric coefficients. Nonselfadjoint boundary conditions are imposed at the ends of a finite interval or on a sphere centered at the origin respectively. Our main result is the fact the aforementioned operators are spectral in the sense of N. Dunford. The result follows from the fact that the systems of root vectors of the above operators form Riesz bases in the corresponding energy spaces. We also give asymptotics of the spectra and state the Riesz basis property results for the nonselfadjoint operator pencils associated with these operators.     

Bouquet and join theorems for disentanglements

The disentanglement of certain augmentations is shown to be the topological join of a disentanglement and a Milnor fibre. The kth disentanglement of a finite map is defined and for corank 1 maps from ℂ ⁿ to ℂ ^{n +1} it is shown that they are homotopically equivalent to a wedge of spheres. The Jacobian and the Ginzburg-Landau energy

We study the Ginzburg-Landau functional for , where U is a bounded, open subset of . We show that if a sequence of functions satisfies , then their Jacobians are precompact in the dual of for every . Moreover, any limiting measure is a sum of point masses. We also characterize the -limit of the functionals , in terms of the function space B2V introduced by the authors in [16,17]: we show that I(u) is finite if and only if , and for is equal to the total variation of the Jacobian measure Ju. When the domain U has dimension greater than two, we prove if then the Jacobians are again precompact in for all , and moreover we show that any limiting measure must be integer multiplicity rectifiable. We also show that the total variation of the Jacobian measure is a lower bound for the limit of the Ginzburg-Landau functional. To the spectral theory of Krein systems

We consider the Krein systems. For the set of Stummel class coefficients, we establish the criterion in terms of these coefficients for the system to satisfy the Szegö-type estimate on the spectral measure.

 建立了一套线性的近似分析方法，研究高功率激光驱动器中强激光传输的小尺度自聚焦效应和相位噪声对光束传输和光束质量的影响，给出了系统噪声强度、B积分值与光束近场调制对比度之间的定量关系。研究表明,为保证输出光束质量，即近场调制对比度小于给定值，系统内的噪声强度必须符合一定的谱分布。     

Spline prewavelets for non-uniform knots

Summary In this paper, we develop a framework suitable for performing a multiresolution analysis using univariate spline spaces of arbitrary degree and with non-uniform knot-sequences. To this end, we show, among other things, the existence of compactly supported prewavelets and of prewavelets that are globally supported, but decay exponentially. In each case we obtain a decomposition of a fine spline space as a sum of a coarse spline space plus a spline space spanned by prewavelets.     

锰结核中硅,铝,铁,镁,磷,钾,锰,钛的XRFA

本文叙述了用XRF分析锰结核中Si、Al、Fe、Mg、P、K、Mn和Ti的方法。按照通常锰结核的主次成分制备6个人工合成标准,根据Sherman方程计算了已知成分(二元系统)的相对强度。用L-T方求得了互致元素校正的理论α系数(基本的、混合的、修正的),用DATAFLEX151B计算机以BASIC语言汇了“PRA,APU”计算机程序。然后进行非线性回归分析了锰结核样品得到了满意的结果。
