This paper presents an optical approach to measure the oxygen gradients in biofilms grown on stainless-steel 316L. The sensor is constructed by immobilizing an oxygen-quenchable fluorophore at the tip of an optical fiber. The response time and reversibility of fiber-optic sensor have been analyzed. By mounting the optical fiber using a computerized micromanipulator, the vertical profiles of oxygen are measured with 10 μm depth resolution across biofilms on metal coupons. Steep concentration gradients of oxygen have been observed within the biofilm, both perpendicular and parallel to the metal surface. Optical response of the biofilm grown metal surface is found to be a consistent measure of the oxygen profiles within biofilms.  相似文献

In this paper, we are concerned with the global existence and stability of a steady transonic conic shock wave for the symmetrically perturbed supersonic flow past an infinitely long conic body. The flow is assumed to be polytropic, isentropic and described by a steady potential equation. Theoretically, as indicated in [R. Courant, K.O. Friedrichs, Supersonic Flow and Shock Waves, Interscience Publishers, Inc., New York, 1948], it follows from the Rankine-Hugoniot conditions and the entropy condition that there will appear a weak shock or a strong shock attached at the vertex of the sharp cone in terms of the different pressure states at infinity behind the shock surface, which correspond to the supersonic shock and the transonic shock respectively. Appl. 4 (2) (2006) 101-132], the authors have established the global existence and stability of a supersonic shock for the perturbed hypersonic incoming flow past a sharp cone when the pressure at infinity is appropriately smaller than that of the incoming flow. Septic spline is used for the numerical solution of the sixth-order linear, special case boundary value problem. End conditions for the definition of septic spline are derived, consistent with the sixth-order boundary value problem. The algorithm developed approximates the solution and their higher-order derivatives. The method has also been proved to be second-order convergent. Three examples are considered for the numerical illustrations of the method developed. The method developed in this paper is also compared with that developed in [M. El-Gamel, J.R. Cannon, J. Latour, A.I. Zayed, Sinc-Galerkin method for solving linear sixth order boundary-value problems, Mathematics of Computation 73, 247 (2003) 1325–1343], as well and is observed to be better.  相似文献

In this paper, we consider the n-term linear fractional-order differential equation with constant coefficients and obtain the solution of this kind of fractional differential equations by Adomian decomposition method. With the equivalent transmutation, we show that the solution by Adomian decomposition method is the same as the solution by the Green's function. In many applications, partial differential equations depend on parameters which are only approximately known. Using tools from functional analysis and global optimization, methods are presented for obtaining certificates for rigorous and realistic error bounds on the solution of linear elliptic partial differential equations in arbitrary domains, either in an energy norm, or of key functionals of the solutions, given an approximate solution. Uncertainty in the parameters specifying the partial differential equations can be taken into account, either in a worst case setting, or given limited probabilistic information in terms of clouds.  相似文献

A convergence theorem for the continuous weak approximation of the solution of stochastic differential equations (SDEs) by general one-step methods is proved, which is an extension of a theorem due to Milstein. As an application, uniform second order conditions for a class of continuous stochastic Runge–Kutta methods containing the continuous extension of the second order stochastic Runge–Kutta scheme due to Platen are derived. Further, some coefficients for optimal continuous schemes applicable to Itô SDEs with respect to a multi–dimensional Wiener process are presented.  相似文献

Bilevel programming has been proposed for dealing with decision processes involving two decision makers with a hierarchical structure. They are characterised by the existence of two optimisation problems in which the constraint region of the upper level problem is implicitly determined by the lower level optimisation problem. In this paper we focus on the class of bilevel problems in which the upper level objective function is linear multiplicative, the lower level one is linear and the common constraint region is a bounded polyhedron. After replacing the lower level problem by its Karush–Kuhn–Tucker conditions, the existence of an extreme point which solves the problem is proved by using a penalty function approach. Besides, an algorithm based on the successive introduction of valid cutting planes is developed obtaining a global optimal solution. Finally, we generalise the problem by including upper level constraints which involve both level variables.  相似文献
