Poincaré’s inequalities and Talagrand’s concentration phenomenon for the exponential distribution

Summary. We present a simple proof, based on modified logarithmic Sobolev inequalities, of Talagrand’s concentration inequality for the exponential distribution. We actually observe that every measure satisfying a Poincaré inequality shares the same concentration phenomenon. We also discuss exponential integrability under Poincaré inequalities and its consequence to sharp diameter upper bounds on spectral gaps. Bouquet and join theorems for disentanglements

The disentanglement of certain augmentations is shown to be the topological join of a disentanglement and a Milnor fibre. The kth disentanglement of a finite map is defined and for corank 1 maps from ℂ ⁿ to ℂ ^{n +1} it is shown that they are homotopically equivalent to a wedge of spheres. To the spectral theory of Krein systems

We consider the Krein systems. For the set of Stummel class coefficients, we establish the criterion in terms of these coefficients for the system to satisfy the Szegö-type estimate on the spectral measure.     

Joint extension of two theorems of Kotzig on 3-polytopes

The weight of an edge in a graph is the sum of the degrees of its end-vertices. It is proved that in each 3-polytope there exists either an edge of weight at most 13 for which both incident faces are triangles, or an edge of weight at most 10 which is incident with a triangle, or else an edge of weight at most 8. All the bounds 13, 10, and 8 are sharp and attained independently of each other.

Exact boundary observability for 1‐D quasilinear wave equations

By means of a direct and constructive method based on the theory of semi‐global C² solution, the local exact boundary observability and an implicit duality between the exact boundary controllability and the exact boundary observability are shown for 1‐D quasilinear wave equations with various boundary conditions. Effect of borohydride as reducing agent on the structures and electrochemical properties of Pt/C catalyst

In this paper, we found that boron deposited on the surface of support when sodium borohydride used as reducing agent during the preparation of Pt/C catalyst. The deposition of boron markedly reduces particle size of Pt, raises electrochemical active surface (EAS) area of catalyst and electrochemical activity for hydrogen evolution or oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) compared with which prepared using other reducing agents (hydrogen and formaldehyde).
