Dijkgraaf–Witten invariants of surfaces and projective representations of groups

We compute the Dijkgraaf–Witten invariants of surfaces in terms of projective representations of groups. As an application we prove that the complex Dijkgraaf–Witten invariants of surfaces of positive genus are positive integers.

First high-resolution analysis of the 4ν1+ν3 band of nitrogen dioxide near 1.5 μm

The high-resolution absorption spectrum of the 4ν₁+ν₃ band of the ¹⁴N¹⁶O₂ molecule was recorded by CW-Cavity Ring Down Spectroscopy between 6575 and 6700 cm⁻¹. The assignments involve energy levels of the (4,0,1) vibrational state with rotational quantum numbers up to K_a=8 and N=48. A large majority of the spin-rotation energy levels were reproduced within their experimental uncertainty using a theoretical model which takes explicitly into account the Coriolis interactions between the spin-rotational levels of the (4,0,1) vibrational state and those of the (4,2,0) and of (0,9,0) dark states, the anharmonic interactions between the (4,2,0) and (0,9,0) states together with the electron spin-rotation resonances within the (4,0,1), (4,2,0) and (0,9,0) states. Precise vibrational energies, rotational, spin-rotational, and coupling constants were determined for the {(4,2,0), (0,9,0), (4,0,1)} triad of interacting states. Using these parameters and the value of the transition dipole-moment operator determined from a fit of a selection of experimental line intensities, the synthetic spectrum of the 4ν₁+ν₃ band was generated and is provided as Supplementary Material.     

Application of a CW chemical laser for remote pollution monitoring and process control

The measurement of the concentration of gaseous hydrogen fluoride in the exhaust of an aluminum plant by resonance absorption of the radiation of a cw chemical HF laser is reported. The HF concentration has been evaluated taking into account the simultaneous absorption of water vapor and carbon dioxide at the HF laser frequencies. The absorption cross sections for H₂O and CO₂ at the HF laser lines have been determined in laboratory experiments.     

Generalized nuclearity conditions and the split property in quantum field theory

Generalized nuclearity conditions that are applicable in arbitrary superselection sectors of a quantum field theory and to theories with a maximal temperature are discussed. They are shown to imply the (distal) split property and to impose specific restrictions on the spectral properties of modular operators associated with local algebras and vectors of compact energy support.     

Dirichlet norms,capacities and generalized isoperimetric inequalities for Markov operators

We define the notion of p-capacity for a reversible Markov operator on a general measure space and prove that uniform estimates for the ratio of capacity and measure are equivalent to certain imbedding theorems for the Orlicz and Dirichlet norms. As a corollary we get results on connections between embedding theorems and isoperimetric properties for general Markov operators and, particularly, a generalization of the Kesten theorem on the spectral radius of random walks on amenable groups for the case of arbitrary graphs with non-finitely supported transition probabilities.

A family of Hermite interpolants by bisection algorithms

A two point subdivision scheme with two parameters is proposed to draw curves corresponding to functions that satisfy Hermite conditions on [a, b]. We build two functionsf andf ¹ on dyadic numbers and for some values of the parameters,f is in ¹ withf ¹=f. Examples are provided which show how different the curves can be.     

Some efficient methods for enclosing simple zeros of nonlinear equations

In the present paper we propose three new methods for computing sequences of enclosing intervals for a zero of a real function without convexity assumptions.The new methods have been tested on a series of published examples. The numerical experiments show that our methods are comparable in terms of efficiency with the well-known algorithms of Dekker and Brent.The present paper was written when this author was visiting the University of Karlsruhe. On computing the number of subgroups of a finite Abelian group

We consider the numberN _A (r) of subgroups of orderp ^r ofA, whereA is a finite Abelianp-group of type =₁,₂,..., _l ()), i.e. the direct sum of cyclic groups of order ⁱⁱ. Formulas for computingN _A (r) are well known. Here we derive a recurrence relation forN _A (r), which enables us to prove a conjecture of P. E. Dyubyuk about congruences betweenN _A (r) and the Gaussian binomial coefficient .
