Conversion of 3-benzoyl-1-methyl-4-phenyl-γ-piperidol by arylamines and arylhydrazines. Synthesis of 3-arylamino-1-oxo-1-phenylpropanes and 1,3-diarylpyrazoles and their fragmentation under electron impact

It has been established that on heating, 3-benzoyl-4-hydroxy-1-methyl-4-phenylpiperidine is ring-opened in the presence of arylamines by a type of retroaldol reaction, with subsequent transamination of the intermediate Mannich base and the formation of 3-arylamino-1-oxo-1-phenylpropanes. When using arylhydrazines this γ-piperidol is recyclized with the formation of 1,3-diarylpyrazoles and their 4,5-dihydro derivatives. 1-Acyldeoxyvasicinone salts as effective intermediate C-and N-acylating agents for alkaloids and amino acids

The reaction of deoxyvasicinone with acid chlorides of aliphatic (acetylbromide) and aromatic (benzoyl-, o-, p-methoxy-, p-nitrobenzoylchlorides) acids was studied. It was shown that 1-deoxyvasicinone salts were formed at room temperature; α-aroyloxymethylidenedeoxyvasicinones, in the presence of triethylamine at 80–85°C. It was found that acid chlorides cause 1-acyldeoxyvasicinone salts to transform into α-hydroxy-or α-aroyloxyarylidenedeoxyvasicinones, which indirectly confirmed their acylating properties. It was found that 1-acyldeoxyvasicinone salts were effective acylating agents for alkaloids (cytisine, 1,2-dihydrodeoxyvasicinone) and amino acids (glycine, β-alanine, α-aminobutyric acid) and can be used to acylate primary and secondary aliphatic and heterocyclic amines. __________ Translated from Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, No. 6, pp. 585–589, November–December, 2006.     

Electronic structure and conformational flexibility of 1,2-dihydropyridine, 1,2- and 1,6-dihydropyrimidines,and their ylide derivatives

Molecular and electronic structures of 1,2-dihydropyridine, 1,2- and 1,6-dihydropyrimidine, and their oxo, imino, and methylene derivatives were studied by the semiempirical quantum-chemical AM1 method. In all compounds, the heterocycle exhibits a high conformational flexibility. The transition from a planar equilibrium conformation to a distorted sofa conformation with the =C-NH-C-C(N)= torsion angle of ±20° causes an increase in the energy by less than 1.7 kcal mol^–1. All molecules have similar -electronic structures, which, apparently, determines the similarity in their conformational behavior. The bending strain and the nonaromatic character of the cyclic -system are the factors that stabilize the nonplanar conformation of the ring in unsubstituted dihydroazines and ylide derivatives, respectively.Translated fromIzvestiva Akademii Nauk. Phosphonates containing sulfur and selenium. Synthesis of vinylphosphonates bearing α-sulfenyl, α-selenenyl, α-sulfinyl and α-seleninyl moieties and studies on nucleophilic addition

The selenenylation of racemic and optically active α-phosphoryl sulfoxides is a key step leading efficiently to α-phosphorylvinyl sulfoxides or α-phosphorylvinyl selenides depending on the reaction conditions. Oxidation of α-phosphorylvinyl selenides and subsequent thermolysis of selenoxides afford alkynylphosphonates. Studies of the stereochemical course of nucleophilic addition to α-phosphoryl sulfoxides show high facial stereoselectivity of the reaction, however, epimerisation at the α-carbon atom leads to mixtures of diastereomers.     

Racemization of chiral amino alcohols III: Effect of Mg or Ca addition on the activity and stability of the Co/γ-Al2O3 catalyst

The racemization of R-(-)-2-amino-1-butanol in a reaction using Co/γ-Al₂O₃ catalysts and catalysts modified by Mg or Ca was investigated in this paper. Complete racemization was achieved with a yield of over 83% at using the Mg modified Co/γ-Al₂O₃ catalyst under optimized reaction conditions of 170°C and 2.5 MPa of H₂. The catalysts were thoroughly characterized by XRD, XPS, TPR, SEM and TEM. The addition of Mg and Ca may be advantageous for dispersing and stabilizing the active species of the Co/γ-Al₂O₃ catalyst, protecting from sintering, significantly improving its catalytic activity and stability.     

Durbin-Watson statistic as a morphological estimator of information content

The present work proposes a new approach for the evaluation of the information content in latent variables, and therefore, for the determination of the regression model dimensionality. Several examples are provided, using simulated, real-world, and reference datasets. The results showed that the application of the Durbin-Watson (DW) criterion could be used for the determination of the number of latent variables. Moreover, the method is straightforward in its implementation and could help in the understanding of model behaviour, particularly in complex datasets. A comparison is made with cross-validation techniques for the case of reference datasets, showing the potential of the Durbin-Watson criterion in the characterisation of the regression model. The advantages and disadvantages of this procedure (compared to cross-validation) are discussed. The properties of the information content of the regression vectors (loadings p, w and b vectors) are shown as well as how to use them for the current purpose.     

Crystal structure of 1-hydroxy-1,2,3-benzotriazolium diphenyl phosphate reveals strong NHO and OHO hydrogen bonds

The structure of 1-hydroxy-1,2,3-benzotriazolium diphenyl phosphate (HOBt/DPP) has been investigated by X-ray analysis. The compound crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P2₁/n with Z = 4 and the following lattice parameters: a = 11.711(2), b = 12.727(2) and c = 12.794(3) Å, β = 105.12(2)°, V = 1840.9(6) ų. The structure was solved by direct methods and refined on F² to R values of wR2 = 0.084 and R1 = 0.034 for 1985 observed reflections. HOBt/DPP has an ionic structure with very short OHO and NHO hydrogen bonds linking the different ions. Owing to these hydrogen bonds, infinite screw-shaped chains which are twisted parallel to the y-axis are formed.     

Photochemical degradation of hyaluronic acid by singlet oxygen

Changes of the rheological properties of hyaluronic acid (sodium-magnesium salt) solutions after exposure to UV radiation indicate a vigorous decrease in their viscosity, but its still strong shear rate dependence. Whereas the presence of the singlet oxygen sensitizer (anthracene-1-sulphonic acid) brings about a loss of shear dependence; the studied solutions show newtonian behavior.     

Poly(styrene-b-2-vinylpyridine-1-oxide) diblock copolymers: 3. Microemulsions in water/propan-2-ol/toluene mixtures

Pseudo-ternary phase diagrams have been constructed for the three-component solvent system (toluene+water+propan-2-ol) containing diblock copolymers of poly(styrene-b-2-vinylpyridine-1-oxide). Microemulsions have been shown to form on the water-rich side of the phase diagram, in the region of the phase boundary without polymer. Dynamic light-scattering experiments have led to droplet size values in the region of 100 nm, with the size depending strongly on the propan-2-ol/water concentration, as well as the amount of solubilised toluene in the core. Viscometry experiments have been carried out to measure polymer aggregation numbers in the microemulsion droplets, and interfacial tension measurements have shown that in the absence of propan-2-ol (effectively a cosurfactant) the limiting value of the oil/water interfacial tension, even an saturation adsorption of the copolymer is 20 mNm^–1. However, addition of propan-2-ol reduces the interfacial tension to the very low values generall commensurate with microemulsion formation.     

Synthesis and Some Chemical Behaviour of Certain Substituted Thiosemicarbazides

Three new thiosemicarbazides (1 a-c ) were prepared from N-[4-phenyl-5-(2-thienyl)-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl]mercaptoacetohydrazide. Reaction of (1 a-c) with the appropriate phenacyl bromide afforded thiazoline derivatives (2 a-i) whereas their reaction with chloroacetic acid or maleic anhydride gave the corresponding thiazolidine derivatives (3 a,b) and (4 a,b) . Cyclodesulfurization of (1 a-c) with DCCD in toluene yielded 5-substituted-amino-1,3,4-oxadiazoles (5 a,b) , while their dehydration with PPA gave the corresponding 5-substituted-amino-1,3,4-thiadiazoles (6 a-c) . Six representative compounds were tested for their in-vitro antimicrobial activity against some pathogenic microorganisms, some of them were proved to be active.
