A generating function of higher-dimensional Apostol-Zagier sums and its reciprocity law

We introduce higher-dimensional Dedekind sums with a complex parameter z, generalizing Zagier's higher-dimensional Dedekind sums. The sums tend to Zagier's higher-dimensional Dedekind sums as z→∞. We show that the sums turn out to be generating functions of higher-dimensional Apostol-Zagier sums which are defined to be hybrids of Apostol's sums and Zagier's sums. We prove reciprocity law for the sums. The new reciprocity law includes reciprocity formulas for both Apostol and Zagier's sums as its special case. Furthermore, as its application we obtain relations between special values of Hurwitz zeta function and Bernoulli numbers, as well as new trigonometric identities.     

A generalization of the Weierstrass semigroup

The Weierstrass semigroup H(P) is well known and has been studied. Recently there has been a renewed interest in these semigroups because of applications in coding theory. Generalizations of the Weierstrass semigroup H(P) to n-tuples P₁,…,P_n have been made and studied. We will state and study another possible generalization.

Conjugate points and Maslov index in locally symmetric semi-Riemannian manifolds

We study the singularities of the exponential map in semi Riemannian locally symmetric manifolds. Conjugate points along geodesics depend only on real negative eigenvalues of the curvature tensor, and their contribution to the Maslov index of the geodesic is computed explicitly. We prove that degeneracy of conjugate points, which is a phenomenon that can only occur in semi-Riemannian geometry, is caused in the locally symmetric case by the lack of diagonalizability of the curvature tensor. The case of Lie groups endowed with a bi-invariant metric is studied in some detail, and conditions are given for the lack of local injectivity of the exponential map around its singularities.     

A Symmetric Function Resolution of the Number of Permutations With Respect to Block-Stable Elements

We consider a question raised by Suhov and Voice from quantum information theory and quantum computing. An element of a partition of {1, ..., n} is said to be block-stable for if it is not moved to another block under the action of π. The problem concerns the determination of the generating series for elements of with respect to the number of block-stable elements of a canonical partition of a finite n-set, with block sizes k₁, ..., k_r, in terms of the moment (power) sums p_q(k₁, ..., k_r). Noncommuting selfmaps and invariant approximations

Common fixed-point results are established for a new class of noncommuting selfmaps. We apply them to obtain several invariant approximation results which unify, extend, and complement well-known results.     

The set union problem with dynamic weighted backtracking

We consider an extension of the set union problem, in which dynamic weighted backtracking over sequences of unions is permitted. We present a new data structure which can support each operation inO(logn) time in the worst case. We prove that this bound is tight for pointer based algorithms. Furthermore, we design a different data structure to achieve better amortized bounds. The space complexity of both our data structures isO(n). Stochastic Navier-Stokes equations

We construct a solution to stochastic Navier-Stokes equations in dimension n4 with the feedback in both the external forces and a general infinite-dimensional noise. The solution is unique and adapted to the Brownian filtration in the 2-dimensional case with periodic boundary conditions or, when there is no feedback in the noise, for the Dirichlet boundary condition. The paper uses the methods of nonstandard analysis.The research of this author was supported by an SERC Grant.     

A Note on degree antiregular graphs

This note proves a conjecture of Merris that the minimal value of entries of the doubly stochastic matrix of the degree antiregular graph E_n of order n ≥ 3 is equal to (l/2(n + l)).     

Factoring a Lie Group into a Compactly Embeddedand a Solvable Subgroup

 Let G be a real connected Lie group. A subgroup K is called compactly embedded if the closure of Ad(K) is compact in Aut(). If K is, in addition, maximal with respect to this property, then there exists a solvable subgroup S containing the nilradical such that and is the one-component of the center of G.
