In-capillary micro solid-phase extraction and capillary electrophoresis separation of heterocyclic aromatic amines with nanospray mass spectrometric detection

A miniaturised technique to analyse and detect heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAs) using micro solid-phase extraction (SPE) coupled on-line (in-capillary) to capillary electrophoresis (CE) separation with nanospray (nESI) mass spectrometry (MS) detection has been developed. HAs are mutagenic and carcinogenic compounds formed at low levels in protein-rich food during cooking. Due to the low concentrations of HAs and the high complexity of the matrix in which they exist, sensitive and selective analytical methods are required for quantification. SPE was performed on a packed bed of C₁₈ particles inside the CE capillary, which minimised the dead volume. The on-line coupling of SPE, CE and nESI-MS reduced the time for extraction and identification to less than half an hour, which will allow for screening of several samples per day. The new technique provides short analysis time, low sample and solvent consumption, and HAs in standard solutions were easily detected at 12–17 fmol injections, and in spiked urine samples at 750–810 fmol injections.     

Emission,Emissionslebensdauer und Absorption von [Cr urea6]X3-Einkristallen

Emission and absorption polarization spectra as well as emission lifetimes between room temperature and 5 °K have been measured of [Cr urea₆]X₃ single crystals, where X stands for ClO ₄ ^– , J^–, NO ₃ ^– , Br^–, Cl^–, F^–, and X₃ for JSO ₄ ^3– . The strong temperature dependence of the fluorescence/phosphorescence-ratios, and of the emission lifetimes is discussed. The differences between the spectra as well as the emission lifetimes of the various salts can be attributed to an anion dependent trigonal perturbation.

IR Study of p–π Conjugation in 2-Substituted 4-Methylene-1,3-dioxolanes and 4-Methyl-1,3-dioxoles

Selected group frequencies of the IR spectra of a number of 2-substituted 4-methylene-1,3-dioxolanes (a) and their endocyclic isomers, 2-substituted 4-methyl-1,3-dioxoles (b), have been studied to establish their usefulness as a measure of the strength of p– conjugation in the O—C=C moieties of the title compounds. In the exo compounds (a), the C=C stretching frequencies C=C and the in-phase, out-of-plane bending (wagging) frequencies CH₂ w of the =CH₂ group were found to be linearly related, besides to each other, also to the electron-donating character of the substituents and the ¹³C NMR chemical shift of the C atom of the exocyclic CH₂ group. This suggests that the two IR group frequencies of the exo isomers are linearly related to the strength of p– conjugation in the O—C=C moiety. The C=C stretching absorption of the exo compounds in the 1600–1700 cm^–1 region appeared as a doublet, shown to arise from Fermi resonance of the C=C fundamental with the CH₂ w overtone. The C=C frequencies of the endo compounds support some previous findings of an unexpected strength of p– conjugation in the 2-alkoxy derivatives. Finally, DFT calculations at the B3LYP/6-31G* level of theory are shown to give accurate predictions of the effect of 2-substituents on the group frequencies.     

Electronic structure of unstable intermediates

The geometry of the linear molecule HBO, has been investigated within the restricted Hartree-Fock LCAO-MO-SCF approximation. The calculated bond lengths for the near Hartree-Fock calculation were R(H-B)=2.1913 bohr, R(B-O)=2.2284 bohr. Several one electron properties have been calculated for the minimum energy configuration.     

Synthesis of some sulfur-containing pyrido[1,2-α]pyrimidines

4-Methylthiopyrido[1,2-α]pyrimidin-2-one and 2-hydroxypyrido[1,2-α]pyrimidine-4-thione derivatives were synthesized by the addition ofN-(4-R-pyrid-2-yl)acetoacetamides (R = H, Me) to CS₂ under phase-transfer conditions followed by the alkylation of the reaction products with Mel. The molecular structure of 3-acetyl-4-methylthiopyrido[1,2-α]pyrimidin-2-one is established by X-ray analysis.     

Photochemical degradation of hyaluronic acid by singlet oxygen

Changes of the rheological properties of hyaluronic acid (sodium-magnesium salt) solutions after exposure to UV radiation indicate a vigorous decrease in their viscosity, but its still strong shear rate dependence. Whereas the presence of the singlet oxygen sensitizer (anthracene-1-sulphonic acid) brings about a loss of shear dependence; the studied solutions show newtonian behavior.     

Ethyl α-cyanoacrylate in the Michael reaction

Ethyl -cyanocarylate undergoes the Michael reaction with strong CH-acids (pK _a < 13) in the presence of strong basic amines such as butylamine, piperidine, and triethylamine. Only polymerization of ethyl -cyanoacrylate occurs under the same conditions with weaker CH-acids in the presence of less basic amines such as aniline, N-methylaniline, and pyridine.A. N. Bromination of regioisomeric fluorine-containing β-aminovinyl ketones

Bromination of -aminovinyl ketones (AVK) with geminal arrangement of the fluoroalkyl and amino groups gives N-bromo derivatives. Necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of positive solutions to algebraic Riccati equations with indefinite quadratic term

Necessary and sufficient conditions are established in this paper for the existence of positive- and/or negative-definite solutions to the algebraic Riccati equation with indefinite coefficient.
