Idempotency of Extensions via the Bicompletion

Let Top ₀ be the category of topological T ₀-spaces, QU ₀ the category of quasi-uniform T ₀-spaces, T : QU ₀ → Top ₀ the usual forgetful functor and K : QU ₀ → QU ₀ the bicompletion reflector with unit k : 1 → K. Any T-section F : Top ₀ → QU ₀ is called K-true if KF = FTKF, and upper (lower) K-true if KF is finer (coarser) than FTKF. The literature considers important T-sections F that enjoy all three, or just one, or none of these properties. It is known that T(K,k)F is well-pointed if and only if F is upper K-true. We prove the surprising fact that T(K,k)F is the reflection to Fix(TkF) whenever it is idempotent. We also prove a new characterization of upper K-trueness. We construct examples to set apart some natural cases. In particular we present an upper K-true F for which T(K,k)F is not idempotent, and a K-true F for which the coarsest associated T-preserving coreflector in QU ₀ is not stable under K. We dedicate this paper to the memory of Sérgio de Ornelas Salbany (1941–2005).     

Nonlinear second-order equations with functional implicit impulses and nonlinear functional boundary conditions

In this paper we deal with nonlinear second-order boundary value problems with impulses. The impulsive functions depend implicitly on the different considered variables and the boundary value conditions are nonlinear. In both cases functional dependence on the solution is allowed. The existence results follow from the existence of a pair of well-ordered lower and upper solutions.     

Distributive lattices of numberings

We study into a semilattice of numberings generated by a given fixed numbering via operations of completion and taking least upper bounds. It is proved that, except for the trivial cases, this semilattice is an infinite distributive lattice every principal ideal in which is finite. The least upper and the greatest lower bounds in the semilattice are invariant under extensions in the semilattice of all numberings. Isomorphism types for the semilattices in question are in one-to-one correspondence with pairs of cardinals the first component of which is equal to the cardinality of a set of non-special elements, and the second — to the cardinality of a set of special elements, of the initial numbering. The Generalized KKM Map and Its Applications to Variational Inequalities

In this paper,applying the concept of generalized KKM map,we study problems ofvariational inequalities.We weaken convexity(concavity)conditions for a functional of two variables■(x,y)in the general variational inequalities.Last,we show a proof of non-topological degree meth-od of acute angle principle about monotone operator as an application of these results.     

The Spaces b~p with 0 < p < 1

Let 0 < p < 1. In this paper we prove that the Bergman norm on the p-th Bergman space bp(H) is equivalent to certain "normal direction norm" as well as certain "tangential direction norm", where H = Rn-1 × R is the upper half space. As an application, we get the boundedness of harmonic conjugation operators on bp(H).     

Non-compact generalized variational inequalities for quasi-monotone and hemi-continuous operators with applications

Some results are obtained for non-compact cases in topological vector spaces for the existence problem of solutions for some set-valued variational inequalities with quasi-monotone and lower hemi-continuous operators, and with quasi-semi-monotone and upper hemi-continuous operators. Some applications are given in non-reflexive Banach spaces for these existence problems of solutions and for perturbation problems for these set-valued variational inequalities with quasi-monotone and quasi-semi-monotone operators. Bounding multi-stage stochastic programs from above

The purpose of this paper is to present general approaches for bounding some multi-stage stochastic programs from above. The results are based on restricting the solution set, such that the remaining multi-stage stochastic program is easy to solve. An example where the methods can be applied is presented.Supported in part by NATO Collaborative Research Grant No. 0785/87.

本文讨论了在区域提纯过程中，研究液态金属流的表面张力时提出的一个带有非负参数Ｑ的两点边值问题．利用上、下解方法和Ｓｃｈａｕｄｅｒ不动点定理，证明了当０Ｑ８５１时，该问题至少有一个解，对已有结果０Ｑ＜１进行了重要的改进．     

Semicontinuity and Quasiconvex Functions

Criteria are derived for quasiconvex functions under lower semicontinuity and upper semicontinuity conditions. The results thus obtained generalize earlier results for convex functions. We also give new conditions under which a given function is r-convex in the sense given by Avriel.
