In this research, Fe3O4/ZnO magnetic core-shell nanoparticles (Fe3O4/ZnO MCNPs) were synthesized through a green method using Petasites hybridus rhizome water extract as a reducing and stabilizing agent. The morphology and size of the Fe3O4/ZnO MCNPs was identified by X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) analysis. The catalytic activity of the Fe3O4/ZnO MCNPs was evaluated in the efficient and green preparation of pyran derivatives in excellent yield using three-component reactions of dimedone, aldehydes, and malononitrile in ethanol at room temperature. The ability of some synthesized compounds to scavenge the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical was measured and the results proved this observation. Moreover, the antimicrobial activity of some synthesized compounds was proved by employing the disk diffusion test on Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. The results for the disk diffusion test showed that compounds ( 4c, 4d, 4f and 4g ) prevented bacterial growth.  相似文献

A novel series of cationic Gemini amphiphiles containing Dischiff base species were synthesized and their chemical structures were determined using different analytical tools. Their surface properties were determined using surface tension measurements. The adsorption and micellization thermodynamic parameters were calculated using Gibb's equations at 25°C. The surface parameters were also determined including critical micelle concentration, effectiveness, efficiency, maximum surface excess, minimum surface area, interfacial tension, and emulsification power. The synthesized cationic Gemini surfactants were evaluated as bactericides for gram negative and gram positive bacteria and also against sulfur reducing bacteria (SRB). The results of the cytotoxicity of the synthesized compounds against the targeted bacterial strains were promising and completely dependent on the surface activity of these compounds.  相似文献

Artificial implants and biomaterials lack the natural defense system of our body and, thus, have to be protected from bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation. In addition to the increasing number of implanted objects, the resistance of bacteria is also an important problem. Silver ions are well‐known for their antimicrobial properties, yet not a lot is known about their mode of action. Silver is expected to interact on many levels, thus the development of silver resistance is very difficult. Nevertheless, some bacteria are able to resist silver, even at higher concentrations. One such defense mechanism of bacteria against heavy‐metal intoxication includes an efflux system. SilE, a periplasmic silver‐binding protein that is involved in this defense mechanism, has been shown to possess numerous histidine functions, which strongly bind to silver atoms, as demonstrated by ourselves previously. Herein, we address the question of how histidine binds to silver ions as a function of pH value. This property is important because the local proton concentration in cells varies. Thus, we solved the crystal structures of histidine–silver complexes at different pH values and also investigated the influence of the amino‐acid configuration. These results were completed by DFT calculations on the binding strength and packing effects and led to the development of a model for the mode of action of SilE.  相似文献

Individual and mix metal nanoparticles of Ag and Au have been prepared by the reducing method where citrate was used as reducing/stabilizing agent. The prepared NPs were characterized with UV/Visible and transmission electron microscopic (TEM) tools. The characteristic peak in UV/Visible at 525, 444 and 531 nm for Au, Ag and Ag/Au mix NPs respectively, gave primary confirmation of prepared NPs. TEM analysis showed the size of nanoparticles as 44.04, 19.78 and 30.93 nm for Ag, Au and Ag/Au mix NPs respectively. Congo and alizarin red dye interactions studies have been performed with prepared NPs to see the removal of the pollutants from water. Congo dye has shown weaker interaction as compared to alizarin due to structural symmetry. Amongst all, the AgNPs have shown maximum 67% and 75% interactions with Congo red and alizarin respectively due to high negative charges on the surface. The Au, Ag and Au/Ag mix NPs have shown stronger interaction with bovine serum albumin (BSA) protein up to 51, 59, 55% respectively, estimated through UV/Vis and physicochemical analysis. The biological evaluations of the prepared NPs have shown their antibacterial activity against Gram + ve and –ve species showing up to 9 cm zone of inhibition. The BSA interaction and antibacterial activity of NPs reveal the importance of NPs in medicinal field.  相似文献

Multidrug resistance (MDR) is one of the major global threats of this century. So new innovative approaches are needed for the development of existing antibiotics to limit antibacterial resistance. The current study was aimed to utilize extracts of root, stem, and leaves of Persicaria hydropiper for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using standard procedure. Synthesis of AgNPs was evident from the change in color of the solution to dark brownish and then it was further revealed by UV–Vis and Fourier Transformed Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). UV–Vis spectroscopy has revealed absorbance peak at 370 nm while, FTIR spectrum displayed that aromatics amines were used as reducing agent in the fabrication of AgNPs. In addition, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM micrograph) displaying tetrahedron, spherical and oval shapes of synthesized AgNPs whereas, average size of synthesized AgNPs was found in the range of 32–77 nm. Beside this, it was also observed that the potency of antibiotics against MDR bacteria increased after coating with synthesized AgNPs i.e., the potency of Ceftazidime and Ciprofloxacin increased up to 450% and 500% against Bacillus respectively while, the potency of Gentamicin, Vancomycin and Linezolid increased up to 150%, 200% and 58% against Bacillus, Staphylococcus, and Proteus species respectively. Furthermore, it was concluded that utilizing AgNPs in combination with commercially available antibiotics would provide an alternate therapy for the treatment of infectious diseases caused by MDR bacteria.  相似文献

Herein, we report the synthesis of new covalent organic polymer comprising triazine and o-tolidine by solvothermal method. The formation of polymer was confirmed by Fourier transform infra red spectroscopy (FT-IR), cross polarization–magic angle spinning nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), transmission electron microscopy, and scanning electron microscopy. Their antibacterial activity toward S. aureus (gram-positive) and P. aeruginosa (gram-negative) was assessed by the optical density measurements and direct contact method. These results have great significance toward the design of new porous polymers for antibacterial applications.  相似文献

Elderberries, sea buckthorn, and sloe berries are fruits of wild-grown bushes, valued in folk medicine for their health-promoting properties but still rarely applied in food. The aim of the present study was to produce probiotic yoghurts with a 10% addition of sweetened purees prepared from elderberries (EPY), sea buckthorn (SBPY), and sloe berries (SPY) and to assess their chemical composition, acidity, content of polyphenols and anthocyanins, ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) and antiradical power (ARP), level of starter microbiota, concentration of acetaldehyde and diacetyl, syneresis, instrumentally measured color and texture parameters, and sensory acceptance. The results were compared to those obtained for plain probiotic yoghurt (PPY) and the changes tracked during 1 month of cold storage at 2 week intervals. The addition of elderberry and sloe berries significantly increased the antioxidant capacity of probiotic yoghurts, probably due to a high content of polyphenols, especially anthocyanins. However, anthocyanins were more stable in the EPY when compared to the SPY. All yoghurt treatments were characterized by good sensory quality and viability of starter microorganisms, including probiotic strains during cold storage. Elderberries promoted the evolution of diacetyl in yoghurts during storage and, together with sloe berries, produced increased syneresis and the greatest changes in color profile compared to PPY.  相似文献

Protected by the host cells, the hidden intracellular bacteria are typically difficult to kill by common antibiotics and cannot be visualized without complex cellular pretreatments. Herein, we successfully developed a bacteria‐metabolizable dual‐functional probe TPEPy‐d ‐Ala, which is based on d ‐alanine and a photosensitizer with aggregation‐induced emission for fluorescence turn‐on imaging of intracellular bacteria in living host cells and photodynamic ablation in situ. Once metabolically incorporated into bacterial peptidoglycan, the intramolecular motions of TPEPy‐d ‐Ala are inhibited, leading to an enhanced fluorescent signal, which allows the clear visualization of the intracellular bacteria. Moreover, TPEPy‐d ‐Ala can effectively ablate the labeled intracellular bacteria in situ owing to covalent ligation to peptidoglycan, yielding a low intracellular minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 20±0.5 μg mL?1, much more efficient than that of a commonly used antibiotic, vancomycin.  相似文献

Rose bengal has been used in the diagnosis of ophthalmic disorders and liver function, and has been studied for the treatment of solid tumor cancers. To date, the antibacterial activity of rose bengal has been sporadically reported; however, these data have been generated with a commercial grade of rose bengal, which contains major uncontrolled impurities generated by the manufacturing process (80–95% dye content). A high-purity form of rose bengal formulation (HP-RBf, >99.5% dye content) kills a battery of Gram-positive bacteria, including drug-resistant strains at low concentrations (0.01–3.13 μg/mL) under fluorescent, LED, and natural light in a few minutes. Significantly, HP-RBf effectively eradicates Gram-positive bacterial biofilms. The frequency that Gram-positive bacteria spontaneously developed resistance to HP-RB is extremely low (less than 1 × 10−13). Toxicity data obtained through our research programs indicate that HP-RB is feasible as an anti-infective drug for the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) involving multidrug-resistant (MDR) microbial invasion of the skin, and for eradicating biofilms. This article summarizes the antibacterial activity of pharmaceutical-grade rose bengal, HP-RB, against Gram-positive bacteria, its cytotoxicity against skin cells under illumination conditions, and mechanistic insights into rose bengal’s bactericidal activity under dark conditions.  相似文献
