In this article, we continue the combinatorial study of models of particles jumping on a row of cells which we initiated with the standard totally asymmetric simple exclusion process or TASEP (Duchi and Schaeffer, Journal of Combinatorial Theory, Series A, 110(2005), 1–29). We consider here the parallel TASEP, in which particles can jump simultaneously. On the one hand, the interest in this process comes from highway traffic modeling: it is the only solvable special case of the Nagel‐Schreckenberg automaton, the most popular model in that context. On the other hand, the parallel TASEP is of some theoretical interest because the derivation of its stationary distribution, as appearing in the physics literature, is harder than that of the standard TASEP. We offer here an elementary derivation that extends the combinatorial approach we developed for the standard TASEP. The marginal distributions of the number of rises and the number of falls have been used successfully in various areas of statistics, especially in non-parametric statistical inference. Carlitz (1972, Duke Math. J.
39, 268–269) showed that the generating function of the joint distribution for the numbers of rises and falls satisfies certain complex combinatorial equations, and pointed out that he had been unable to derive the explicit formula for the joint distribution from these equations. After more than two decades, this latter problem remains unsolved. In this article, the joint distribution is obtained via the probabilistic method of finite Markov chain imbedding for random permutations. Recently, the space bvp of real or complex numbers consisting of all sequences whose differences are in the space lp has been studied by Basar, Altay [Ukrainian Math. J. 55(1)(2003), 136-147], where 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞. The main purpose of the present paper is to introduce the space bvp(F) of sequences of p-bounded variation of fuzzy numbers. Moreover, it is proved that the space bvp(F) includes the space lp(F) and also shown that the spaces bvp(F) and lp(F) axe isomorphic for 1 ≤ p ≤∞. We give an asymptotic formula for the distribution of those integers n in a residue class, such that n has a fixed sum of base-g digits, with some uniformity over the choice of the modulus and g. We then use this formula to solve the problem of I. Niven of giving an asymptotic formula for the distribution of those integers n divisible by the sum of their base-g digits. Our results also allow us to give a stronger form of a result of M. For positive integers s and k1,k2,…,ks, the van der Waerden number w(k1,k2,…,ks;s) is the minimum integer n such that for every s-coloring of set {1,2,…,n}, with colors 1,2,…,s, there is a ki-term arithmetic progression of color i for some i. We give an asymptotic lower bound for w(k,m;2) for fixed m. We include a table of values of w(k,3;2) that are very close to this lower bound for m=3. We consider the model of the one-dimensional cookie random walk when the initial cookie distribution is spatially uniform
and the number of cookies per site is finite. We give a criterion to decide whether the limiting speed of the walk is non-zero.
In particular, we show that a positive speed may be obtained for just three cookies per site. We also prove a result on the

We study double Hurwitz numbers in genus zero counting the number of covers CP1→CP1 with two branching points with a given branching behavior. By the recent result due to Goulden, Jackson and Vakil, these numbers are piecewise polynomials in the multiplicities of the preimages of the branching points. We describe the partition of the parameter space into polynomiality domains, called chambers, and provide an expression for the difference of two such polynomials for two neighboring chambers. Besides, we provide an explicit formula for the polynomial in a certain chamber called totally negative, which enables us to calculate double Hurwitz numbers in any given chamber as the polynomial for the totally negative chamber plus the sum of the differences between the neighboring polynomials along a path connecting the totally negative chamber with the given one. 相似文献
