Arsenic Speciation in Marine Sediments: Effects of Redox Potential and Reducing conditions

Abstract

The speciation of arsenic in the environment is among others controlled by reduction, methylation and oxidation processes and therefore influenced by the prevailing redox conditions. In this study we have analyzed sediments taken from La Coruña estuary in the north west of Spain. Inorganic (trivalent and pentavalent) and the organic (MMA and DMA) arsenic speciation is related to Eh, Fe and Mn load. The various of the arsenic species concentration and other parameters was analyzed at different depths in some of the sampling points. Low arsenic concentrations (1–10 μg·g^–1) were found. In spite of oxidising conditions (Eh values between 31–96 mV), most of the samples showed a higher As(V) percentage than As (III). Principal component analysis was made to see a sample groups and the results showed that speciation depends on reducing conditions (Eh and Mn).     

Marine Sediments and Snow from Ross Sea Region (Antarctica) Dating by 210Pb Method

Abstract

²¹⁰Pb is widely used to determine accumulation rates in order to obtain a time scale in environmental samples. The most accurate method uses the determination of ²¹⁰Pb via its grand-daughter ²¹⁰Po by alpha spectrometry. Unfortunately this method requires a complex wet-chemistry procedure to achieve the separation of ²¹⁰Po from its matrix. In this work a simplified procedure for the chemical separation of ²¹⁰Po is proposed and applied to three marine sediment cores and a 10 m snow core collected in Antarctica. The calculated sedimentation rates for marine sediments range from 0.053 to 0.071 cm y^?1. The mean annual accumulation rate for the snow is 16.6 cm y^?1 w.e. A comparison with literature data in the same region is given.     

海绵Phacelliafusca中含氮化合物的分离与结构鉴定

从采自中国南海西沙群岛海域的海绵Phacellia fusca Schmidt中得到4个含氮 化合物。经~1H NMR,~(13)C NMR,HMQC,HMBC,~1H-~1HCOSY,FABMS和EIMS等光谱分析 ，确证其结构分别为：N,N'-二[2-乙氧基-1（Z）-乙烯基]脲（1），2- Bromoaldisin(2),Aldisin(3)Dibromophakellin盐酸盐(4)。其中化合物1为一具有 对称结构的新脲类化合物，命名Phacelliaurea A；化合物4是首次从该海绵中分离 得到的已知胍基生物碱，首次报到了它的~(13)C NMR数据及其归属。     

Terpenoids from a Chinese Gorgonian Anthogorgia sp. and Their Antifouling Activities

Chemical examination of a Chinese gorgonian Anthogorgia sp. resulted in the isolation of seven terpenoids, including two new compounds, an rearranged serrulatane‐type diterpenoid anthogorgiene P ( 1 ) and a guaiazuene‐based terpenoid anthogorgiene Q ( 2 ). Anthogorgiene P ( 1 ) contains an unprecedented cubebane nucleus which is rarely found from nature. The structures of new compounds were elucidated on the basis of extensive spectroscopic methods (IR, UV, MS, CD and NMR). Compound 7 showed potent antifouling activity against the larval settlement of Balanus amphitrite, while 1 and 4 possessed moderate inhibition.     

Iterative synthesis of the ABCDEF-ring system of yessotoxin and adriatoxin

A stereocontrolled linear synthesis of the ABCDEF-ring system of yessotoxin and adriatoxin, diarrhetic shellfish toxins, is described. Iterative application of a tetrahydropyran synthesis by reaction of the alkylation of a sulfonyl-stabilized oxiranyl anion followed by 6-endo cyclization of a 4,5-epoxy alcohol led to the synthesis of the trans-fused hexacyclic ether system, and the seven-membered E ring was constructed by ring expansion reaction.     

α-Glucosidase inhibitory activity of marine sponges collected in Mauritius waters

This report describes the use of α-glucosidase to evaluate the anti-diabetic potential of extracts from marine sponges collected in the Mauritius waters. Initial screening at 1.0 mg/mL of 141 extracts obtained from 47 sponge species revealed 10 extracts with inhibitory activity greater than 85%. Seven of the 10 extracts were further tested at 0.1 and 0.01 mg/mL and only the methanol extract of two sponges namely Acanthostylotella sp. (ASSM) and Echinodictyum pykei (EPM) showed inhibition activity greater than 60% at 0.1 mg/mL with an IC₅₀ value of 0.16 ± 0.02 and 0.04 ± 0.01 mg/mL, respectively, while being inactive at 0.01 mg/mL.     

Tetramic acid derivatives and polyphenols from sponge-derived fungus and their biological evaluation

Fifteen compounds, including two tetramic acid derivatives, penicillenol A₁ (1) and penicillenol A₂ (2), six polyphenols containing both phenolic bisabolane sesquiterpenoid and diphenyl ether units, expansols A–F (3–8), together with six phenolic bisabolane sesquiterpenoids (9–14) and diorcinol (15), were isolated from the fermentation broth of the marine-derived fungus ZSDS1-F11 isolated from the sponge Phakellia fusca Thiele collected in the Yongxing island of Xisha. Their structures were elucidated mainly by using extensive NMR spectroscopic and mass spectrometric analyses. Compounds 3–5, 7 and 8 showed potent COX-1 inhibitory activity with IC₅₀ values of 5.3, 16.2, 30.2, 41.0 and 56.8 μM, respectively. Meanwhile, compounds 3–8 showed potent COX-2 inhibitory activity with IC₅₀ values of 3.1, 5.6, 3.0, 5.1, 3.2 and 3.7 μM, respectively. In addition, compound 1 exhibited antituberculosis activity with 96.1% inhibition at concentration of 10 μM.     

Dendrobeaniamine A,a new alkaloid from the Arctic marine bryozoan Dendrobeania murrayana

Abstract

The new guanidine alkaloid Dendrobeaniamine A (1) was isolated from the organic extract of the Arctic marine bryozoan Dendrobeania murrayana. The chemical structure of 1 was elucidated by spectroscopic experiments, including 1D and 2D NMR and HRESIMS analysis. Compound 1 is a lipoamino acid, consisting of a C₁₂ fatty acid anchored to the amino acid arginine. The bioactivity of 1 was evaluated using cellular and biochemical assays, but the compound did not show cytotoxic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory or antioxidant activities     

An Endo-Selective Epoxide-Opening Cascade for the Fast Assembly of the Polycyclic Core Structure of Marine Ladder Polyethers

The rapid synthesis of marine ladder polyethers from polyepoxide precursors (in analogy with the biosynthetic pathway hypothesized by Nakanishi) is hampered by the fact that the exo-selective epoxide-opening cyclization cascade that gives THF-type polyethers is preferred over the endo-selective cascade that gives the desired products. We found that perfluoro-tert-butanol (PFTB) cooperating with 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([EMIM]BF₄) can promote endo-selective epoxide-opening cyclization reactions of trisubstituted epoxy alcohols. Starting from readily accessible homochiral polyepoxy alcohols with a methyl group at all the endo-cyclization sites, we were able to construct polyethers up to five consecutive fused 6-, 7-, and/or 8-membered rings in one step. Notably, molecules with the 7/7/6/6 and 7/7/6/7/6 polyether frameworks of hemibrevetoxin B and brevenal, respectively, could be synthesized in 40 % and 17 % chemical yields.     

高效液相色谱-三重四极杆质谱同时测定与筛查海洋浮游藻类中的5种色素

对海洋藻类色素的高效液相色谱-三重四极杆质谱（HPLC-QqQ-MS）分析方法的有效性进行了验证。该方法采用C₁₆氨基色谱柱为固定相,以甲醇、乙腈和乙酸铵为流动相,在选择反应监测模式下对叶绿素a、叶绿素b、 β,β -胡萝卜素、叶黄素和岩藻黄素的含量进行了测定。结果表明,5种色素标准品的线性关系良好,相关系数（r²）均高于0.996,回收率在82.77%~99.83%之间,日内和日间精密度的相对标准偏差（RSD）均小于5%（n=5）;方法的检出限（LOD）在0.02~0.16 μg/L之间,定量限（LOQ）在0.06~0.54 μg/L之间。利用该方法对11种藻类中5种色素的含量进行分析,比较了赤潮异弯藻、卡罗藻、微小原甲藻、微拟球藻、蛋白核小球藻、颗石藻、定鞭金藻、中肋骨条藻、威氏海链藻和假微型海链藻之间的物种色素分布情况。该方法具有简单、灵敏度高、重复性好、回收率高等优点,适合藻类色素分析,为进行藻类生物量计算提供了分析手段。
