Nucleon-nucleon interaction with tensor forces in the quark compound bag model

A model forN-N interaction proposed earlier by two of us (VSB and VKG), has been extended to incorporate the tensor component of the nuclear force. Based on the quark compound bag model (QCB), the nucleon-nucleon potential has a short range repulsive core which is non-local and has a characteristic energy dependence and is expressed in terms of the parameters relating to the six-quark compound bag. To account for the low energy properties, this repulsive core interaction is supplemented by a phenomenological non-local potential containing both central (S-wave) and tensor components and operates only outside the QCB. Using this model, we analyse and compare the results with the experimental data for the electromagnetic form factors of the deuteron, theD-state observables, such as the quadrupole moment, theD-state probability, and theD/S ratio along with then-p scattering phase shifts up to about 400 MeV.     

Pauli-Fierz Hamiltonians defined as quadratic forms

We study Pauli-Fierz Hamiltonians-self-adjoint operators describing a small quantum system interacting with a bosonic field. Using quadratic form techniques, we extend the results of Dereziński-Gérard and Gérard about the self-adjointness, the location of the essential spectrum and the existence of a ground state to a large class of Pauli-Fierz Hamiltonians.     

Nucleon electromagnetic form factors and polarization observables in space-like and time-like regions

We perform a global analysis of the experimental data of the electromagnetic nucleon form factors, in space-like and time-like regions. We give the expressions of the observables in annihilation processes, such as p + ¯↦ℓ⁺ + ℓ^-, ℓ = e or μ, in terms of form factors. We discuss some of the phenomenological models proposed in the literature for the space-like region, and consider their analytical continuation to the time-like region. After determining the parameters through a fit on the available data, we give predictions for the observables which will be experimentally accessible with large statistics, polarized annihilation reactions

Quark-hadron duality in electron-pion scattering

We explore the relationship between exclusive and inclusive electromagnetic scattering from the pion, focusing on the transition region at intermediate Q². Combining Drell-Yan data on the leading twist quark distribution in the pion with a model for the resonance region at large x, we calculate QCD moments of the pion structure function over a range of Q², and quantify the role of higher twist corrections. Using a parameterization of the pion elastic form factor and phenomenological models for the π↦ρ transition form factor, we further test the extent to which local duality may be valid for the pion. Probing proton halo of the exotic nucleus28S by elastic electron scattering

Elastic electron scattering on the exotic light nucleus²⁸S is investigated in the plane wave Born approximation. The variation of the squared form factors of²⁸S with momentum transfer is compared with that of³²S. It is found that the behavior of the form factors near the second minimum (with a moderate momentum transfer) is sensitive to the alteration of the charge density distribution of halo protons in²⁸S. This indicates that elastic electron scattering can be a good probe of the structure of proton-halo nuclei.

A geometric characterisation of resonance in Hopf bifurcation from relative equilibria

We give a new characterisation of resonance in Hopf bifurcation from relative equilibria in systems with compact symmetry group. This characterisation provides a full geometric explanation of the resonance phenomenon. In addition, we develop techniques based on normal form theory to give a complete solution to the associated bifurcation problem.     

Generalized Riccati equation expansion method and its application to the Bogoyavlenskii's generalized breaking soliton equation

Based on the computerized symbolic system Maple and a Riccati equation, a Riccati equation expansion method is presented by a general ansatz. Compared with most of the existing tanh methods, the extended tanh-function method, the modified extended tanh-function method and generalized hyperbolic-function method, the proposed method is more powerful. By use of the method, we not only can successfully recover the previously known formal solutions but also construct new and more general formal solutions for some nonlinear differential equations. Making use of the method, we study the Bogoyavlenskii's generalized breaking soliton equation and obtain rich new families of the exact solutions, including the non-travelling wave and coefficient functions' soliton-like solutions, singular soliton-like solutions, periodic form solutions.
