Convex bodies and asymptotic invariants for powers of monomial ideals

Continuing a well established tradition of associating convex bodies to monomial ideals, we initiate a program to construct asymptotic Newton polyhedra from decompositions of monomial ideals. This is achieved by forming a graded family of ideals based on a given decomposition. We term these graded families powers since they generalize the notions of ordinary and symbolic powers. Asymptotic invariants for these graded families are expressed as solutions to linear optimization problems on the respective convex bodies. This allows to establish a lower bound on the Waldschmidt constant of a monomial ideal by means of a more easily computable invariant, which we introduce under the name of naive Waldschmidt constant.

Completing an extension of Tunnell's theorem

We look at a special case of a familiar problem: Given a locally compact group G, a subgroup H and a complex representation π₊ of G how does π₊ decompose on restriction to H. Here G is GL⁺(2,F), where F is a nonarchimedian local field of characteristic not two, K a separable quadratic extension of F, GL⁺(2,F) the subgroup of index 2 in GL(2,F) consisting of those matrices whose determinant is in NK/F(K^∗), π₊ is an irreducible, admissible supercuspidal representation of GL⁺(2,F) and H=K^∗ under an embedding of K^∗ into GL(2,F).     

New families of flag-transitive linear spaces

In this paper, we construct new families of flag-transitive linear spaces with $q^{2n}$ points and $q^2$ points on each line that admit a one-dimensional affine automorphism group. We achieve this by building a natural connection with permutation polynomials of ${\mathbb{F}}_{q^2}$ of a particular form and following the scheme of Pauley and Bamberg in (2008) [14].
