The authors study the Rayleigh-Taylor instability for two incompressible immis- cible fluids with or without surface tension, evolving with a free interface in the presence of a uniform gravitational field in Eulerian coordinates. To deal with the free surface, instead of using the transformation to Lagrangian coordinates, the perturbed equations in Eule- rian coordinates are transformed to an integral form and the two-fluid flow is formulated as a single-fluid flow in a fixed domain, thus offering an alternative approach to deal with the jump conditions at the free interface. First, the linearized problem around the steady state which describes a denser immiscible fluid lying above a light one with a free interface separating the two fluids, both fluids being in (unstable) equilibrium is analyzed. By a general method of studying a family of modes, the smooth (when restricted to each fluid domain) solutions to the linearized problem that grow exponentially fast in time in Sobolev spaces are constructed, thus leading to a global instability result for the linearized problem. Then, by using these pathological solutions, the global instability for the corresponding nonlinear problem in an appropriate sense is demonstrated. 相似文献

This paper discusses“geometric property (T)”. This is a property of metric spaces introduced in earlier works of the authors for its applications to K-theory. Geometric property (T) is a strong form of “expansion property”, in particular, for a sequence (Xn) of bounded degree finite graphs, it is strictly stronger than (Xn) being an expander in the sense that the Cheeger constants h(Xn) are bounded below. In this paper, the authors show that geometric property (T) is a coarse invariant, i.e., it depends only on the large-scale geometry of a metric space X. The authors also discuss how geometric property (T) interacts with amenability, property (T) for groups, and coarse geometric notions of a-T-menability. In particular, it is shown that property (T) for a residually finite group is characterised by geometric property (T) for its finite quotients. 相似文献

In this paper we extend the results obtained in [3], where are investigated the general settings of the two-dimensional complex Finsler manifolds, with respect to a local complex Berwald frame. The geometry of such manifolds is controlled by three real invariants which live on T ′M : two horizontal curvature invariants K and W and one vertical curvature invariant I. By means of these invariants are defined both the horizontal and the vertical holomorphic sectional curvatures. The complex Landsberg and Berwald spaces are of particular interest. Complex Berwald spaces coincide with K¨ahler spaces, in the two-dimensional case. We establish the necessary and sufficient condition under which K is a constant and we obtain a characterization for the K¨ahler purely Hermitian spaces by the fact K = W = constant and I = 0. For the class of complex Berwald spaces we have K = W = 0.Finally, a classification of two-dimensional complex Finsler spaces for which the horizontal curvature satisfies a special property is obtained. 相似文献
