Synchronized whistlers recorded at Varanasi

Some interesting events of synchronized whistlers recorded at low latitude station Varanasi during magnetic storm period of the year 1977 are presented. The dynamic spectrum analysis shows that the component whistlers are Eckersley whistlers having dispersion 10 s^1/2 and 30 s^1/2. An attempt has been made to explain the dynamic spectra using lightning discharge generated from magnetospheric sources     

一种新的超分辨记录点的读出技术

提出一种新的超分辨记录点的读出技术—超分辨反射膜技术，详细分析了其原理。用该技术，以Sb为超分辨反射膜，SiN为介电层，在激光波长为632．8nm和光学头的数值也径为0．40的读出光学系统中实现了直径为380nm的超分辨记录点的读出。同时研究了Sb薄膜厚度对读出信噪比的影响规律，发现最佳的Sb薄膜厚度为28～30nm，所得的信噪比为38～40dB。     

Analytic continuation and identities involving heat,Poisson, wave and Bessel kernels

In this article we use classical formulas involving the K–Bessel function in two variables to express the Poisson kernel on a Riemannian manifold in terms of the heat kernel. We then use the small time asymptotics of the heat kernel on certain Riemannian manifolds to obtain a meromorphic continuation of the associated Poisson kernel to all values of complex time with identifiable singularities. This result reproves in a different setting by different means a well–known theorem due to Duistermaat and Guillemin [DG 75]. Also, we develop analytic expressions for the heat kernel beyond asymptotic expansions. (© 2003 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, Weinheim)     

Nonlinear Energy Transfer over the Wave Spectrum in Water Covered by Solid Ice

On the basis of the hydrodynamic equations for nonlinear elastic-gravity waves beneath a solid ice cover and their Hamiltonian representation, a three-wave kinetic equation for the time evolution of the wave spectrum is formulated. The properties of the kernel of the kinetic integral describing the nonlinear interactions between wave triplets are investigated. An algorithm for numerically calculating the kinetic integral is developed. The rate of nonlinear energy transfer over the wave spectrum is estimated quantitatively and its most important characteristics are found.     

三包层WⅠ和WⅡ型单模光纤波导色散特性的研究

研究了三包层WⅠ和WⅡ型单模光纤的波导色散特性。结果发现在相同条件下，三包层WⅠ和WⅡ型单模光纤零色散点的调节范围比传统的双包层W型单模光纤明显增大。详细分析了几何参量P、Q和光学参量R1、R2对单模传输时的波导色散特性和低次模截止频率的影响。所得的研究结果为获得更为理想的色散补偿、色散平坦光纤及设计新型无源光器件提供了重要的依据。计算波导色散的方法可推广到多包层光纤。     

Effect of a Shock Pulse on a Floating Ice Sheet

The vibrations of a viscoelastic plate lying on an elastic liquid base subjected to pulse loading have been studied theoretically and experimentally. The effect of the variable depth of the reservoir, plate thickness, and strain relaxation time on the value of the plate vibration amplitude and the length and curvature of the flexural gravity wave profile are analyzed. Good agreement of theoretical and experimental results is obtained.     

Approximation bounds for quadratic maximization and max-cut problems with semidefinite programming relaxation

In this paper,we consider a class of quadratic maximization problems.For a subclass of the problems,we show that the SDP relaxation approach yields an approximation solution with the ratio is dependent on the data of the problem with α being a uniform lower bound.In light of this new bound,we show that the actual worst-case performance ratio of the SDP relaxation approach (with the triangle inequalities added) is at least α δd if every weight is strictly positive,where δd ＞ 0 is a constant depending on the problem dimension and data.     

New solitons and kink solutions for the Gardner equation

The Gardner equation, also called combined KdV–mKdV equation, is studied. New hyperbolic ansatze are proposed to derive solitons solutions. The tanh method is used as well to obtain kink solutions.     

用光栅衍射法测试液体表面张力

利用π型直线状振源，在待测液面产生正弦形表面驻波，将其作为一种理想的反射式光栅，通过对激光束的衍射，形成线阵衍射光斑．借助LCCD等硬件测试系统及相应的数据采集与处理系统，实时准确地测量液体表面张力。     

Applications of density functional theory methods in millimeter‐wave spectroscopy

Density functional theory (DFT), using the most common functionals, and ab initio quantum chemistry methods are used to calculate the rotational constants and dipole moments of the astrophysically important molecules HCN, CH₃CN, CH₃CNH⁺, HCCCN, and HCCNC. As far as millimeter‐wave spectroscopy is of interest the DFT methods performed well with most functionals, giving results within ±1% of experiments for rotational constants and ±3% for dipole moments. Analyzing the results obtained with all theoretical models, it may be concluded that the Becke's three‐parameter exchange functional and the gradient‐corrected functional of Lee, Yang, and Paar (B3LYP) and Becke's three‐parameter functional with Perdew–Wang correlational functional [B3PW91/6‐31G(d, p)] give the best performances. A detailed analysis of the electron correlation effects shows that HCCCN is more stable than is HCCNC, by 1.16 eV, with important contribution arising from triple excitations. This result is also compared with those obtained with DFT methods. Despite occasional difficulties, DFT with the currently available functionals are of great utility in quickly assessing spectroscopic parameters of astrophysical interest. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
