The interfacial dynamics‐based cavitation model, developed in Part‐1, is further employed for unsteady flow computations. The pressure‐based operator‐splitting algorithm (PISO) is extended to handle the time‐dependent cavitating flows with particular focus on the coupling of the cavitation and turbulence models, and the large density ratio associated with cavitation. Furthermore, the compressibility effect is important for unsteady cavitating flows because in a water–vapour mixture, depending on the composition, the speed of sound inside the cavity can vary by an order of magnitude. The implications of the issue of the speed of the sound are assessed with alternative modelling approaches. Depending on the geometric confinement of the nozzle, compressibility model and cavitation numbers, either auto‐oscillation or quasi‐steady behaviour is observed. The adverse pressure gradient in the closure region is stronger at the maximum cavity size. One can also observe that the mass transfer process contributes to the cavitation dynamics. Compared to the steady flow computations, the velocity and vapour volume fraction distributions within the cavity are noticeably improved with time‐dependent computations. Spatio temporal dynamics of the positive column of a dc neon glow discharge is studied and investigated experimentally and theoretically. Spatio temporal analysis by means of biorthogonal decomposition method (BOD) gives insights into the mechanism of irregularity and can be employed for characterization of spatio‐ temporal complexity. In the weak nonlinear region, the wave dynamics is approximated by an amplitude equation of the Ginzburg‐Landau equation (CGLE) with complex coefficients and an additional integral term based on a fluid model. In the present work we deal with irregular spatio‐temporal data. A comparison between the numerical analysis of the experimental data and simulation results are studied. The nature of a very high-dimensional chaotic attractor in an infinite-dimensional phase space is examined for the purpose of studying the relationships between the physical processes occurring in the real space and the characteristics of high-dimensional attractor in the phase space. We introduce two complementary bases from which the attractor is observed, one the Lyapunov basis composed of the Lyapunov vectors and the another the Fourier basis composed of the Fourier modes. We introduce the exterior subspaces on the basis of the Lyapunov vectors and observe the chaotic motion projected onto these exteriors. It is shown that a certain statistical property of the projected motion changes markedly as the exterior subspace goes out of the attractor. The origin of such a phenomenon is attributed to more fundamental features of our attractor, which become manifest when the attractor is observed from the Lyapunov basis. A counterpart of the phenomenon can be observed also on the Fourier basis because there is a statistical one-to-one correspondence between the Lyapunov vectors and the Fourier modes. In particular, a statistical property of the high-pass filtered time series reflects clearly the difference between the interior and the exterior of the attractor. 相似文献

Momentum transfer was investigated in an unbaffled agitated vessel of inner diameter 0.3 m equipped with different off-centred
impellers. The distribution of the shear rate on the tank wall as a function of the impeller type and Reynolds number was
studied in the turbulent regime of the Newtonian liquid flow. The dependences of the averaged dimensionless shear rate, friction
coefficient, and dissipated energy on the Reynolds number and eccentricity ratio were approximated using four-parameter equations.

The mercerization of homogenized primary wall cellulose extracted fromsugar beet pulp was investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM),X-ray diffraction together with 13C CP-MAS NMR, and FT-IR spectroscopy.For samples resulting from acid extraction, mercerization began at 9% NaOH, whereasfor samples purified by alkaline treatment, the mercerization started at 10%NaOH. The change in morphology when going from cellulose I to cellulose II wasspectacular, as all the microfibrillar cellulose morphology disappeared duringthe treatment. This change in morphology was very drastic as soon as the NaOHconcentrations were increased beyond 8 and 9% for the acid and alkalinepreparedsamples, respectively. On the other hand, the conversion was found to be moreprogressive in terms of increasing NaOH concentration when the transformationwas analyzed by X-ray diffraction or spectroscopy. Our observations of themercerization of isolated cellulose microfibrils are consistent with theconceptof cellulose microfibrils made of parallel chains in cellulose I and crystalsofcellulose II consisting of antiparallel chains. 相似文献
