The equations of the dynamics of a finitelength curved rod in a viscous flow are derived. The longitudinal stability of the rod against small deflections from a rectilinear form is studied for two types of flow (pure and simple shear). The minimum flexural rigidity of the rod that ensures rod stability for any orientation in the flow is found. The effective viscosity of a suspension filled with rectilinear discrete fibers is estimated.  相似文献

Summary The modification of an axi-symmetric viscous flow due to a relative rotation of a disk or fluid by a translation of the boundary are studied. The fluid is taken to be compressible and electrically conducting. The equations governing the motion are solved iteratively through a central-difference scheme. The effect of an axial magnetic field and disk temperature on the flow and heat transfer are included in the present analysis. The translation of the disk or fluid generates a velocity field at each plane parallel to the disk (secondary flow). The cartesian components of the velocity due to the secondary flow are oscillatory in nature when a rigid body rotation of the free stream along with a translation of the disk is considered. The magnetic field damps out the velocity field, and reduces the thickness of the boundary layer. The cross component of wall shear due to secondary flow acts in a direction opposite to the rotation of the disk or fluid for all cases of the motion. The rise in disk temperature produces an increment in the magnitude of the wall shear associated with the secondary flow.  相似文献

This paper deals with a theoretical analysis of the transfer of reactive impurities by open and filtration flows of an incompressible viscous fluid. The first section of the paper studies the model of an inhomogeneous incompressible viscous fluid, which is widely used in meteorology and oceanology, with additional allowance for the drag of the magnetic field or porous medium. Another object of research in this paper is the model of filtration of an inhomogeneous incompressible fluid in porous media proposed by V. N. Monakhov (1977) (Section 2). The boundary-value problem of unsteady vortex flow of a viscous incompressible fluid in a cylindrical vessel with radial ribs rotating at a variable angular velocity is solved using a finite-difference method. The results of the solution are used to calculate the motion of a system of a solid body and a cavity filled with a liquid. Two steady-state models of magma flow in a conduit are considered, with and without allowance for magma compressibility. As distinct from studies [{xc1}–{xc6}], in which either simplified equations were solved or unrealistic values of the parameters were used, in the present study the complete systems of equations are solved and the values of the parameters correspond to magma flow in a volcanic conduit. The secondary flows obtained in [{xc5}] for model conditions are not formed when the magma is simulated by an incompressible fluid and all the terms of the equations are taken into account. When the magma compressibility is taken into account, in the isothermal case and for constant magma viscosity the entire flow is adequately described by the one-dimensional isothermalmodel, although this approach is not formally applicable.  相似文献

One of the challenges in civil engineering is to find an innovative means of suppressing the structural vibration due to earthquake and wind loadings. This paper presents an approach for effectively suppressing vibrations of a structure with variable friction damper using a new Bang-Bang control input. A continuous function of story velocities is used to represent the improved control to reduce chatter, high frequency switching and avoid instability. With a genetic algorithm, the amplitudes of control and preloading friction forces individually prescribed in the controller and damper are optimized for enhancing the seismic performance of buildings. The control strategy for the friction damper is proposed to for three story building with one variable friction damper installed at the first story for seismic reduction. The numerical results indicate that a better reduction of peak response accelerations of floors can be achieved than those of the unmodified controller, and the adaptability of the control system is also improved greatly by comparison with the reduction ratios of the structural response energy excited by different earthquake intensities.  相似文献

A system of the Navier-Stokes equations of two-dimensional motion of a viscous heat-conducting perfect gas with a polytropic equation of state is considered. Regular, partially invariant solutions of rank 1 and defect 1 are studied. A sufficient condition of their reducibility to invariant solutions of rank 1 is proved. All solutions of this class with a linear dependence of the velocity-vector components on spatial coordinates are examined. Within the thin-layer approximation for a highly-viscous heavy incompressible fluid, a hydrodynamicmodel of a 3D isothermal lava flow over a non-axisymmetric conical surface is constructed. Using analytical methods, a self-similar solution for the law of leading-edge propagation is obtained in the case of a flow from a non-axisymmetric source located at the apex of a conical surface with smoothly varying properties. In the case of a flow over a substantially non-axisymmetric surface, it is shown that there exists a self-similar solution for the free-surface shape and the law of leading-edge motion. This solution is studied numerically for particular examples of the substrate surface and the source. In the general case of a non-self-similar flow over a substantially non-axisymmetric conical surface, a local analytical solution is obtained for the free-surface shape and the velocity field near the leading flow front.  相似文献
