In this study, we developed a technique for modifying the surface of the silicone elastomer Poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) by 172‐nm wavelength vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) light exposure. Such materials have high potential for application to micro/nanofluidic devices if their surface properties can be adequately controlled. The hydrophilicity, zeta potential and bonding strength of the VUV‐exposed surfaces were investigated and compared to surfaces exposed to conventional vacuum oxygen plasma. It was found that the proposed technique was effective at modifying the surface conditions from hydrophobic to hydrophilic, increasing the zeta potential, and allowing good bonding to glass. The time required to produce the maximum bonding strength was found to be similar to that for vacuum oxygen plasma exposure. However, since VUV exposure does not require the creation of a vacuum, it offers a faster turnaround, making it suitable for mass production. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献

The vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) absorption spectrum of difluoromethane (CH2F2) was studied using synchrotron radiation from the storage ring Indus-1, Indore, India. Spectra were recorded in the spectral region 1050–1500 Å (~8.3–11.8 eV) at a resolution of 1.5 Å. Three absorption band systems were observed in this region. Overall features observed are in good agreement with previously published work. Some discrepancies in assignments of the observed vibronic bands carried out by previous workers have been resolved. Metallic gallium was observed on the surfaces of GaN commercial samples following argon ion milling. SIMS measurements confirmed that the commercial GaN had approximately 0.02% bulk oxygen present. The SIMS signal was standardized using a specimen of known oxygen content, as determined by elastic recoil detection analysis using 200 MeV heavy ions of 197Au. Despite this 2–5% oxygen was observed by XPS in the bulk of the GaN after the argon ion milling. This oxygen is believed to be from the original surface oxide that re-cycles on the GaN surface during the ion milling. 相似文献
