The drag coefficients for a prolate ellipsoid moving along its axis of symmetry, in the creeping flow regime, either towards or away from a plane surface are calculated. The plane surface may have either a no-slip boundary condition, corresponding to a solid wall, or a perfect slip condition, corresponding to a free surface.First the analytical solutions are employed to obtain exact values for the full range of feasible particle–plane gaps. Next, simple exact formulæ for the asymptotes at small and large gaps are presented. Finally, some convenient approximate formulæ are obtained that may be used across the full range of gaps.  相似文献

Concern over the health effects of fine particles in the ambient environment led the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to develop the first standard for PM2.5 (particulate matter less than 2.5 μm) in 1997. The Particle Technology Laboratory at the University of Minnesota has helped to establish the PM2.5 standard by developing many instruments and samplers to perform atmospheric measurements. In this paper, we review various aspects of PM2.5, including its measurement, source apportionment, visibility and health effects, and mitigation. We focus on PM2.5 studies in China and where appropriate, compare them with those obtained in the U.S. Based on accurate PM2.5 sampling, chemical analysis, and source apportionment models, the major PM2.5 sources in China have been identified to be coal combustion, motor vehicle emissions, and industrial sources. Atmospheric visibility has been found to correlate well with PM2.5 concentration. Sulfate, ammonium, and nitrate carried by PM2.5, commonly found in coal burning and vehicle emissions, are the dominant contributors to regional haze in China. Short-term exposure to PM2.5 is strongly associated with the increased risk of morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular and respiratory diseases in China. The strategy for PM2.5 mitigation must be based on reducing the pollutants from the two primary sources of coal-fired power plants and vehicle emissions. Although conventional Particulate Emission Control Devices (PECD) such as electrostatic precipitators in Chinese coal-fired power plants are generally effective for large particles, most of them may not have high collection efficiency of PM2.5. Baghouse filtration is gradually incorporated into the PECD to increase the PM2.5 collection efficiency. By adopting stringent vehicle emissions standard such as Euro 5 and 6, the emissions from vehicles can be gradually reduced over the years. An integrative approach, from collaboration among academia, government, and industries, can effectively manage and mitigate the PM2.5 pollution in China.  相似文献

Prediction of bacteria-carrying particle (BCP) dispersion and particle distribution released from staff members in an operating room (OR) is very important for creating and sustaining a safe indoor environment. Postoperative wound infections cause significant morbidity and mortality, and contribute to increased hospitalization time. Increasing the number of personnel within the OR disrupts the ventilation airflow pattern and causes enhanced contamination risk in the area of an open wound. Whether the amount of staff within the OR influences the BCP distribution in the surgical zone has rarely been investigated. This study was conducted to explore the influence of the number of personnel in the OR on the airflow field and the BCP distribution. This was performed by applying a numerical calculation to map the airflow field and Lagrangian particle tracking (LPT) for the BCP phase. The results are reported both for active sampling and passive monitoring approaches. Not surprisingly, a growing trend in the BCP concentration (cfu/m3) was observed as the amount of staff in the OR increased. Passive sampling shows unpredictable results due to the sedimentation rate, especially for small particles (5–10 μm). Risk factors for surgical site infections (SSIs) must be well understood to develop more effective prevention programs.  相似文献

We applied the discrete element method (DEM) of simulation modified by an enlarged particle model to simulate bead motion in a large bead mill. The stainless-steel bead mill has inner diameter of 102 mm and mill length of 198 mm. The bead diameter and filling ratio were fixed respectively at 0.5 mm and 85%. The agitator rotational speed was changed from 1863 to 3261 rpm. The bead motion was monitored experimentally using a high-speed video camera through a transparent mill body. For the simulation, enlarged particle sizes were set as 3-6 mm in diameter. With the DEM modified by the enlarged particle model, the motion of enlarged particles in a mill was simulated.The velocity data of the simulated enlarged particles were compared with those obtained in the experiment. The simulated velocity of the enlarged particles depends on the virtual frictional coefficient in the DEM model. The optimized value of the virtual frictional coefficient can be determined by considering the accumulated mean value. Results show that the velocity of the enlarged particles simulated increases with an increase in the optimum virtual frictional coefficient, but the simulated velocity agrees well with that determined experimentally by optimizing the virtual frictional coefficient in the simulation. The computing time in the simulation decreases with increased particle size.  相似文献

近年用于水下滑翔器的低成本导航系统成为研究热点,导航器件的成本与精度之间的折中问题仍然是目前的难题。针对因使用低成本的导航元件而造成低精度位姿估计的问题,提出用于位姿估计的改进高斯混合粒子滤波(IGMPF)方法。用高斯混合模型来估计非高斯噪声,改进的粒子滤波进一步提高位姿估计精度。为了验证其效果,该方法应用于自主设计的水下滑翔器导航系统中并做了车载实验,实验结果表明所提IGMPF方法在实际应用中比传统的EKF和UKF表现更优,姿态角和位移误差比EKF和UKF减小了至少30%。  相似文献

High-temperature persistent spectral hole-burning (PSHB), up to room temperature, has been observed in a Eu 3+ -doped aluminosilicate glass using a high peak-power nanosecond dye laser. Spontaneous refilling as well as thermal cycling measurements show that at least two mechanisms, a fast and a slow one, are involved in our sample. We suggest that the fast or “easy” component may correspond to a non-photochemical local rearrangement of the host or to photoreduction of the Eu 3+ ions and that the second one leading to very stable photoproducts may correspond to transfer of an electron over a sizable distance through a several-step process. The mechanisms we suggest agree with light-induced hole refilling measurements. Line broadening mechanisms are discussed and the temperature-dependent part of the homogeneous width and of the spectral shift is interpreted in terms of a two-phonon (Raman) process involving pseudo-local phonons.
