We derived for the first time the relationships among shear stress and normal stress differences for ellipsoidal interfaces
under large step shear strains considering interface velocity term and Laplace pressure term in the expression of the stress
tensor for mixtures of two Newtonian fluids. In the derivation, orientation angle of the interface is assumed to be given
by the affine deformation assumption and is independent of time based on experimental results for blends with 0.048 ≤ K ≤ 0.54 where K is the ratio of droplet viscosity to matrix viscosity. For ellipsoidal droplets, the shear stress is only proportional to
the first normal stress difference. On the other hand, for spheroidal droplets, proportionality among the shear stress, the
first and the second normal stress differences was derived, and the ratio of the second normal stress difference to the first
normal stress difference was given as a function of step strain. The shear stress and the first normal stress difference obtained
experimentally satisfy the derived relationship, indicating applicability of the stress expression for polymer blends. 相似文献

In this work, we describe methods for the preparation of suspensions of micron-sized iron particles grafted with different
surfactants. The aim is to obtain well-dispersed magnetorheological (MR) fluids. The effectiveness of the surfactants as dispersants
was analyzed quantitatively by means of rheological measurements. With this objective, the viscosity of the suspensions was
measured, and the results were compared with the prediction of the Batchelor’s formula (Batchelor, J Fluid Mech 83:97–117, 1977). The effect of dispersion on the MR properties of the suspensions was also studied. It was found that the
quality of the dispersion of a suspension does not have an important effect on the magnitude of the field-induced yield stress
but does on the change of viscosity induced by the field. It was also found that the transition from the solid-like state
to the liquid-like one happens very smoothly for well-dispersed suspensions, contrarily to the abrupt transition for poorly

Traditionally, the components of the stress with respect to a relevant coordinate system are used for the purpose of stress
visualisation and interpretation. A case for using a flow dependent measure to interpret and visualise stress is made for
two dimensional flow, together with a suggestion for extending the idea to three dimensions. The method is illustrated for
Newtonian and Oldroyd B fluids in both the eccentrically rotating cylinder and flow past a cylinder benchmark problems. In
the context of a generalised Newtonian fluid, the relation between the flow-dependent stress measure to other field variables
under certain flow conditions, is examined and is indicative of its importance in complex flow.

The interaction of a plane harmonic longitudinal wave with a thin circular elastic inclusion is considered. The wave front
is assumed to be parallel to the inclusion plane. Since the inclusion is thin, the matrix-inclusion interface conditions (perfect
bonding) are formulated on the mid-plane of the inclusion. The bending displacements of the inclusion are determined from
the bending equation for a thin plate. The problem is solved using discontinuous Lamé solutions for harmonic vibrations. Therefore,
the problem can be reduced to the Fredholm equation of the second kind for a function associated with the discontinuity of
normal stresses on the inclusion. The equation obtained is solved by the method of mechanical quadratures using Gaussian quadrature
formulas. Approximate formulas for the stress intensity factors are derived. Results from a numerical analysis of the dependence
of the SIFs on the dimensionless wave number and the stiffness of the inclusion are presented

The paper is concerned with the problem of predicting nonlinear creep strains and time to ductile rupture of prismatic rods
under constant tension. The material of the rod is assumed isotropic, homogeneous, and perfectly plastic. The problem is solved
using models that take into account the change in the geometry of the rod during creep, the finiteness of the creep strains,
and the effect of the initial and actual elastic strains. The conditions whereby the characteristic dimension of the rod tends
to infinity and the accumulated and real strains in the viscous flow are limited are used as a failure criterion. The calculated
results are compared with experimental data for a number of steels and alloys to formulate the conditions for the ductile
rupture and embrittlement of metallic materials under uniaxial creep

The elastic solution in a vicinity of a re-entrant wedge can be described by a Williams like expansion in terms of powers of the distance to a point on the edge. This expansion has a particular structure due to the invariance of the problem by translation parallel to the edge. We show here that some terms, so-called primary solutions, derive directly from solutions to the 2-D corner problem posed in the orthogonal cross section of the domain. The others, baptized shadow functions, derive of the primary solutions by integration along the axis parallel to the edge. This 3-D Williams expansion is shown to be equivalent to the edge expansion proposed by Costabel et al. [M. Costabel, M. Dauge, Z. Extending the polarization saturation model [Gao et al., 1997. Local and global energy release rates for an electrically yielded crack in a piezoelectric ceramic. J. Mech. Phys. Solids 45, 491-510] and the dielectric breakdown (DB) model [Zhang et al., 2005. The strip dielectric breakdown model. Int. J. Fract. 132, 311-327] in piezoelectric materials, the Strip Electric-Magnetic Breakdown (SEMB) model is proposed for electrically and magnetically impermeable crack in a magnetoelectroelastic medium to study the effect of the nonlinear character of electric field and magnetic field on fracture of magnetoelectroelastic materials. In the SEMB model, the electric field in the strip of the electric breakdown zone ahead of the crack tip is equal to the electric breakdown strength, while the magnetic filed in the strip of the magnetic breakdown zone is equal to the magnetic breakdown strength. By using the extended Stroh formalism and the extended dislocation modeling of a crack, the Griffith crack problem under the electrically and magnetically elastic-plastic condition in a magnetoelectroelastic medium is reduced to a set of dual integral equations. The sizes of the electric breakdown zone and the magnetic breakdown zone, the extended intensity factors and the local J-integral are obtained. The effect of the combined mechanical-electric-magnetic loadings on the local J-integral is studied. 相似文献

采用对偶边界元方法分析了梯度材料中的矩形裂纹. 该方法基于层状材料基本解,以非裂纹边界的位移和面力以及裂纹面的间断位移作为未知量. 位移边界积分方程的源点配置在非裂纹边界上,面力边界积分方程的源点配置在裂纹面上. 发展了边界积分方程中不同类型奇异积分的数值方法. 借助层状材料基本解,采用分层方法逼近梯度材料夹层沿厚度方向力学参数的变化. 与均匀介质中矩形裂纹的数值解对比,建议方法可以获得高精度的计算结果. 最后,分析了梯度材料中均匀张应力作用下矩形裂纹的应力强度因子,讨论了梯度材料非均匀参数、夹层厚度和裂纹与夹层之间相对位置对应力强度因子的影响. 相似文献

将V形切口结构分成围绕切口尖端的小扇形和剩余结构两部分. 尖端处扇形域应力场表示成关于尖端距离$\rho$的渐近级数展开式,从线弹性理论方程推导出了一组分析平面V形切口奇异性的常微分方程特征值问题,通过求解特征方程,得到前若干个奇性指数和相应的特征向量. 再将切口尖端的位移和应力表示为有限个奇性阶和特征向量的组合. 然后用边界元法分析挖去小扇形后的剩余结构. 将位移和应力的线性组合与边界积分方程联立,求解获得切口根部区域的应力场、应力幅值系数和整体结构的位移和应力. 从而准确计算出平面V形切口的奇异应力场和应力强度因子. 相似文献
