The effects of the curvature radius of a cylindrical shell on stress intensity factors are investigated in circumferential (inner and outer) semielliptical surface cracks in a cylindrical shell. What is new in this paper is to have given: (1) The stress intensity factors for surface cracks in a cylindircal shell are determined by photoelastic technique. (2) By a special method photoelastic slices are handled for obtaining a clear caustic curve, and the stress intensity factors for surface cracks in a cylindrical shell are determined by the caustic method. (3) An approximate equation of curvature correction factor Fc is proposed. (4) Effects of the curvature radius R of a cylindrical shell on the stress intensity factors of surface cracks are obtained. The results of this paper are in fair agreement with already existing analytical results. The approximate equation of curvature correction factor Fc can be widely used for engineering purposes.  相似文献

Traditional thermoelastic stress analysis (TSA) presupposes that the structure being analyzed is cyclically loaded at a constant amplitude and frequency. This approach typically has been used to satisfy the adiabatic reversible assumptions. The authors employ an alternative signal analysis technique that enables one to evaluate the magnitude of the individual components of stress in a component subjected to a loading that is random in both frequency and magnitude. However, the nature of the measured information does not change; i.e., data are inherently noisy, and edge information is unreliable. The latter two aspects have caused many thermoelastic stress analyses to be more qualitative than quantitative. The present paper emphasizes developing the TSA technique into a practical, noncontacting quantitative method for stress analyzing actual engineering structures that are randomly loaded. In particular, ability to determine the individual stresses thermoelastically under random loading is demonstrated.  相似文献

Based on Chun-Tu Liu's result for Reissner's plate, an equation of caustics in cracked plate under symmetric bending was obtained. The shape and the distribution of light intensity of the caustic curve were discussed in detail. The relation between the stress intensity factor (SIF) and the size of the caustic curve was found by numerical method, and a simple and accurate experimental method for evaluating SIF in plate under bending was proposed.  相似文献

In this paper, the steady crack growth of mode III under small scale yielding conditions is investigated for anisotropic hardening materials by the finite element method. The elastic-plastic stiffness matrix for anisotropic materials is given. The results show the significant influences of anisotropic hardening behaviour on the shape and size of plastic zone and deformation field near the crack tip. With a COD fracture criterion, the ratio of stress intensity factorsk ss/kc varies appreciably with the anisotropic hardening parameterM and the hardening exponentN.  相似文献

The crack healing induced by ethanol in poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) has been studied at temperatures of 40–60°C. Crack healing occurs because the effective glass transition temperature of PMMA is reduced to below the test temperature by ethanol plasticization. It is found that crack closure rate is constant at a given temperature. The fracture strength of healed PMMA is lower than that of the original samples. By comparing the fracture stress with the morphology of the crack edge on the PMMA surface, we found that a high degree of swelling is responsible for the incomplete recovery of mechanical strength. The fractography of the completely healed sample shows a very different fracture morphology from that of virgin PMMA. The transport of ethanol in PMMA also is studied. At lower temperatures, transport is described by ideal Case II behavior. As the temperature increases, the kinetics shift from ideal Case II to anomalous behavior. In the present paper, a study of the deep-sea water wave caused by an oscillatory wind stress due to the atmospheric depression, resulting in spiral cyclonic wind pressure on the surface of the sea is made. It has been observed that the motion of the water wave in the case of wind stress exhibits a greater elevation on the sea surface asg the acceleration due to gravity decreases and maintains the oscillatory nature with the increase of time. For the case of spiral cyclonic motion for which the sea surface experiences the elliptical pressure on the surface, the motion diminishes asg diminishes and oscillates with the variation of time. The motion also diminishes asymptotically as the radius vector of the elliptical pressure approaches unity.  相似文献

Based on a modified Hellinger/Reissner variational principle which includes the equivalent stress, equivalent plastic strain and non-conforming displacement increments as independent variables, a quadrilateral isoparametric hybrid stress element for the analysis of elastoplastic problem is proposed. By this formulation, the yield criterion and flow rule are satisfied in an average sense and greater accuracy can be obtained by using non-conforming displacement. A numerical example is presented to show that the present model has high accuracy and computational effectiveness.This project is supported by the Natural Science Foundation of the State Education Commission.  相似文献

Exact series solutions for planar creeping flows of Oldroyd-B fluids in the neighbourhood of sharp corners are presented and discussed. Both reentrant and non-reentrant sectors are considered. For reentrant sectors it is shown that more than one type of series solution can exist formally, one type exhibiting Newtonian-like asymptotic behaviour at the corner, away from walls, and another type exhibiting the same kind of asymptotics as an Upper Convected Maxwell (UCM) fluid. The solutions which are Newtonian-like away from walls are shown to develop non-integrable stress singularities at the walls when the no-slip velocity boundary condition is imposed. These mathematical solutions are therefore inadmissible from the physical viewpoint under no-slip conditions. An inadmissible solution, with stress singularities which are not everywhere integrable, is identified among the solutions of UCM-type. For a 270° reentrant sector the radial behaviour of the normal stress is everywhere r−0.613. In the viscometric region near a wall, the radial normal stress σrr behaves like (rε)−0.613, where ε is the angle made with the wall. In addition σrθ is infinite (not integrable) at the wall even when r is non-zero. Another UCM-type solution has a normal stress behaviour away from walls which is r−0.985 for 270° sector. Again, this solution has a non-integrable stress singularity and is therefore inadmissible. Finally, for non-reentrant sectors it is shown that the flow is always Newtonian-like away from walls.  相似文献
