Attempts to miniaturize electrophoresis (EP) to save time or enhance productivity and efficiency remains a challenge for science
and industry. Other advantages of miniaturization include: increased sensitivity, saving of reagents, greater yield of data,
and enabling studies where only small samples are available. Since electrophoresis that takes hours may be reduced to a matter
of minutes, the limitations of miniaturization in clinical, industrial, and research applications are evaluated. Clinical
electrophoresis (EP) on cellulose acetate media can be performed in 3.5 min instead of 20–45 min and on SDS polyacrylamide

Repeated temperature scanning method was applied to observe non-stoichiometry of YBa2Cu3O7-d, and interesting results were obtained. Two simultaneously occurring processes were separately observed in mass change;
one is a fast process and the other is slow, so that their responses to the temperature change are quite different from each
other. The fast process follows the cyclic temperature change, but the slow process is observed to be a gradual mass change.
Kinetic behaviors of these two processes are also made clear by plotting the mass vs. the temperature. Furthermore, a hysteresis
loop was observed in the plot of the mass vs. the temperature in a high temperature range presumably due to the third process,
and it depends on the heating and cooling rates.

Herein we describe the structure and dynamics of self-assembled nano-objects generated from poly(ethylene glycol) based (PEG-ylated) coiled-coil hybrid block copolymers. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) experiments on spin-labeled samples provided a strong indication for a parallel alignment of the peptide helices in at least the dimeric coiled-coil nano-object and indicated that the PEG chains are folded rather closely around the peptide core of the nano-objects. The EPR results were supported by AFM studies, which revealed the presence of discrete nanosized objects in thin, spin cast films of the block copolymers on mica substrates. Since their size and structure may be engineered via directed mutations in the amino acid sequence, these nano-objects may be interesting building blocks for the development of supramolecular materials with various potential applications. 相似文献

Nitrogen desorption scanning hysteresis loops (DSHLs) for large-pore MCM-41 silicas (pore diameter from 4.0 to 6.5 nm) are reported for the first time. DSHLs for MCM-41 were compared with those of conventional mesoporous silicas and no appreciable differences were found, although hysteresis loops and DSHLs for the latter were usually broader. Since desorption behavior of conventional porous silicas is appreciably influenced by pore connectivity, the observed similarity in hysteresis behavior suggests single-pore blocking effects for MCM-41 due to variation of pore diameter along its nonintersecting channels. It was also shown that the steepness of nitrogen desorption branches at relative pressures close to 0.4 often results from proximity of the lower pressure limit of adsorption-desorption irreversibility and consequently it is not justified to consider it as an indication of narrow pore size distribution. Thus, application of desorption data in calculations of pore size distributions may be grossly misleading. 相似文献

With the aid of a model for the kinetics of polymer crystallization, as put forward in previous publications, the shape of DSC-curves and their position on the temperature scale were simulated for various conditions of heat transfer in the apparatus. It turns out that the outcome is very dependent on the assumptions made with respect to these heat transfer conditions. For the ideal condition — no temperature differences between sample, pan and furnace — an invariable shape is predicted for the DSC-curves. They only shift to lower temperatures with increasing cooling rates. For more realistic conditions, the curves not only shift but become broader and their maxima decrease. They show a more familiar appearance. These calculations are very involved, however, A simple balance equation is shown to yield equivalent results, if a dimensionless characteristic number like the Nusselt number remains considerably smaller than one. This number contains an effective heat transfer coefficient between sample and furnace which, surprisingly, should not be too high. Apparently, the heat capacity of the pan does not play an important role under these conditions. This is investigated in Appendix II.
