The standard Fast Spin Echo sequence used in MR imaging relies on the CPMG condition. A consequence of this condition is that only one component of the transverse magnetization can be measured. To counter this, some phase modulation schemes (XY, MLEV.) for the pulse train have been proposed, but they are useful only over a very restricted range, close to pi, of the refocusing pulse rotation angle. Some other solutions not relying on phase modulation have also been suggested, but they destroy one half the available signal. Revisiting the phase modulation approach, J. Murdoch ("Second SMR Scientific Meeting," p. 1145, 1994) suggested that a quadratic phase modulation could generate a train of classical echoes. We show here that indeed a quadratic phase modulation has a very suitable property: after an adequate change of frame, the dynamic of the system composed of all the protons situated in one pixel can be seen as stationary. If the parameter of the quadratic phase modulation is well chosen, it is then possible to put the dynamic system in a combination of two suitable states and obtain a signal identical to the signal of a classical spin echo, at least for nutation of the refocusing pulse higher than, approximately, two radians. 相似文献

We review our recent work in the implementation of optical single-sideband (OSSB) modulation and in the application of this modulation format to microwave photonics and optical testing systems. We have developed an enhanced OSSB modulator for wide-band operation, the so-called bidirectional OSSB modulator, and a simplification of this scheme for narrow-band applications. These OSSB modulators are based on the use of a standard single-electrode Mach-Zehnder electro-optic modulator (MZ-EOM) and passive fiber-optic components. In both designs, the OSSB operation is shown to be independent of the MZ-EOM bias. Therefore, the optical modulation depth at the output of the device can be enhanced using minimum transmission biasing to provide suppression of the optical carrier. Finally, we demonstrate the application of OSSB modulators to the improvement of microwave/millimeter-wave subcarrier multiplexing fiber-optic links and to narrow-band fiber radio systems. In addition, we analyzed the feasibility and the limitations of an optical vector network analysis technique based on OSSB modulation that can provide sub-picometer wavelength resolution. 相似文献

A new quasi-phase-matching technique for efficient second-harmonic generation is reported. It is based on the spatial periodic modulation of the light intensity along the propagation direction, rather than the conventional spatial periodic modulation of the nonlinear optical coefficients. It can be realized by using a novel dual-channel waveguide frequency doubler structure for the desired light intensity distribution. This dual-channel waveguide device has major advantages including very small beam size, high light intensity within long nonlinear-waveguide interaction length, highly efficient second-harmonic generation, ease in fabrication of the nonlinear channel waveguides without any spatially periodic poling, and low waveguide propagation losses. The new quasi-phase-matching technique can also be applied to third-harmonic generation and other nonlinear optics processes. 相似文献

We have identified a family of (2+1)D spatial solitary waves which can stably propagate in bulk media in the presence of coexisting diffraction, self-focusing Kerr and quadratic nonlinearities. In a conspicuous range of excitation conditions close to the stationary solutions, the emerging wavepackets are immune to the detrimental occurrence of filamentation and collapse, typical of pure Kerr media. The presence of a second-order contribution to the cubic nonlinear response is, therefore, able to prevent optical damage in applications relying on self-guidance. We show that the cross-phase modulation plays an important effect on stability. Our estimate shows that the effects of the cubic susceptibility cannot be neglected below a certain beam size in realistic crystals (e.g. KTP or similar). 相似文献

The influence of the tuning of the radiation frequency of quantum-well heterolasers within the limits of their amplification
band on the output laser radiation parameters at different frequencies of pump-current modulation has been numerically simulated
using two optical models of an active medium under the assumption that the excess of the invariable component of the pump
current over its threshold value at any point of the amplification band is constant. It has been established that the amplitude-detuning
characteristics of the lasers studied are linear at high current-modulation frequencies and nonlinear at medium ones. The
behavior of the nonlinear spectral response of a laser diode is explained by its multiresonance structure and is mainly determined
by the ratio between the pump-current modulation frequency and the maximum resonance frequency of the laser.

Electrospray ionization mass spectra obtained from different scan directions are observed to be dependent on the axial modulation potential amplitudes used for resonant ejection and on the positive deviation caused by higher even-multipole fields present in most commercial ion traps. The axial modulation voltage influences the dissociation of ions during resonant ejection and the observed mass shifts. The higher even-multipole fields in commercial ion traps are known to influence resonant ejection from the ion trap and can cause a loss in mass resolution for peaks in reverse scan mass spectra compared with that obtained by the forward scan. However, along with the dissociation of ions during resonant ejection causing a loss in resolution, the possibility of resolving an isotopic distribution is also shown to be influenced by the mass shifts caused by the space charge. These mass shifts differ depending on the scan direction employed. A significant loss in resolution can also result from resonant ejection using non-optimal axial modulation voltages. We also present results showing the ejection of ions at betaz = 1/2 using the reverse scan mode without the axial modulation voltage. Ion ejection at betaz = 1/2 is uncommon in commercial (stretched ion traps) with the conventional analytical scan without the use of a frequency of the axial modulation voltage corresponding to this non-linear resonance. 相似文献
