Cubical complexes are metric spaces constructed by gluing together unit cubes in an analogous way to the construction of simplicial complexes. We construct Brownian motion on such spaces, define random walks, and prove that the transition kernels of the random walks converge to that for Brownian motion. The proof involves pulling back onto the complex the distribution of Brownian sample paths on a single cube, combined with a distribution on walks between cubes. The main application lies in analysing sets of evolutionary trees: several tree spaces are cubical complexes and we briefly describe our results and applications in this context. 相似文献

The large scale motion of proteins, or covalently bonded polymers in general, is governed by the dynamics of the torsion angles, with bond lengths and bond angles kept approximately constant. In the present work, the Lagrangian equations of torsion motion are derived for a general macromolecule. The dynamics is implemented numerically for a test protein, using the velocity Verlet method as the integrator. The results indicate time steps of up to about 30 fs can be used for short time (up to at least 20 ps) simulations, before the dynamics and energy start to differ significantly from results obtained with smaller time steps. We introduce a family of stochastic processes on the integers, depending on a parameter and interpolating between the deterministic rotor walk () and the simple random walk (). The main result of this paper identifies the scaling limit of the p‐rotor walk with two‐sided i.i.d. initial rotors.
