On regular graphs and coronas whose second largest eigenvalue does not exceed 1

We characterize all regular graphs whose second largest eigenvalue does not exceed 1. In the sequel, we determine all coronas, different from cones, with the same property. Some results and examples regarding unsolved cases are also given.     

Remarks and open problems on the minimum permanent of acyclic doubly stochastic matrices

We formulate several open problems and conjectures involving acyclic doubly stochastic matrices with minimum permanent and the minimum second largest eigenvalue. New characterizations and illustrative examples of these permanental minimizing matrices are provided in this article. In addition, we show that the adjacency matrix of any tree, with more than 2 vertices, plus the identity matrix is not cohesive.     

New inequalities for the minimum eigenvalue of M-matrices

Some new inequalities for the minimum eigenvalue of M-matrices are established. These inequalities improve the results in [G. Tian and T. Huang, Inequalities for the minimum eigenvalue of M-matrices, Electr. J. Linear Algebra 20 (2010), pp. 291–302].     

Solution to system of partial fractional differential equations using the fractional exponential operators

In this article, fractional exponential operator is considered as a general approach for solving partial fractional differential equations. An integral representation for this operator is derived from the Bromwich integral for the inverse Mellin transform. Also, effectiveness of this operator for obtaining the formal solution of system of diffusion equations is discussed. Copyright © 2011 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

A gradient based iterative algorithm for solving model updating problems of gyroscopic systems

Model updating should be correlated with experimental data to ensure that it models the dynamics of the real structure and the updated model predicts the dynamics of a structure more accurately. Considering that the iterative methods for model updating have aroused little public attention, this paper studies an iterative algorithm for quadratic model updating problems which can incorporate the measured modal data into the finite element model to produce an adjusted finite element model on the mass, gyroscopic and stiffness matrices that closely match the experimental modal data. By this method, the best approximation symmetric and skew-symmetric solutions can be obtained by choosing a convergence factor. Numerical example shows that the introduced iterative algorithm is quite efficient.     

多元件谐振腔模式的有限元传输矩阵分析方法

建立了多元件谐振腔本征模的有限元传输矩阵模型。提出了模式计算相对误差概念及相应表达式,该表达式在数值上不受菲涅耳数的影响,能够很好反映有限单元划分方案对不同菲涅耳数的谐振腔的模式计算精度的影响。提出了有限单元划分精细度的概念和相应表达式,用以表征有限单元划分的精细程度。该表达式以菲涅耳数作为有限元传输矩阵法对腔镜单元格数划分的相对要求,用镜面实际划分的单元格数与菲涅耳数的比值来表征有限单元划分的精细程度。分析了不同谐振腔参数变化时模式计算相对误差与有限单元划分精细度的关系,建立了3种不同函数形式的经验表达式,并通过比较拟合残差选择了拟合效果较好的表达式。     

二阶微分方程的逆特征值问题

运用渐近分析的方法及Rayleigh商原理,将Sturm-Liouville问题的Ambarzumyan定理推广到具有Neumann边界条件或拟周期边界条件的二阶微分方程情形.同时,获得了二阶向量微分方程的有关Ambarzumyan型结果.     

树上生灭过程的Dirichlet特征值估计

本文给出树上两类非常返的生灭过程的第一Dirichlet特征值的变分公式．一类是配称测度有限时,给出以根为吸收点的Dirichlet特征值的变分公式;另一类是配称测度无限时,给出树上生灭过程的Dirichlet主特征值的变分公式．     

Error analysis of symplectic Lanczos method for Hamiltonian eigenvalue problem

A rounding error analysis for the symplectic Lanczos method is given to solve the large-scale sparse Hamiltonian eigenvalue problem. If no breakdown occurs in the method, then it can be shown that the Hamiltonian structure preserving requirement does not destroy the essential feature of the nonsymmetric Lanczos algorithm. The relationship between the loss of J-orthogonality among the symplectic Lanczos vectors and the convergence of the Ritz values in the symmetric Lanczos algorithm is discussed. It is demonstrated that under certain assumptions the computed J-orthogonal Lanczos vectors lose the J-orthogonality when some Ritz values begin to converge.
