Irrationality of the sums of zeta values

In this paper, we establish a lower bound for the dimension of the vector spaces spanned over ? by 1 and the sums of the values of the Riemann zeta function at even and odd points. As a consequence, we obtain numerical results on the irrationality and linear independence of the sums of zeta values at even and odd points from a given interval of the positive integers.

Experimental and numerical investigations of pressure drop in a rectangular duct with modified power law fluids

Numerical solutions are presented for fully developed laminar flow for a modified power law fluid (MPL) in a rectangular duct. The solutions are applicable to pseudoplastic fluids over a wide shear rate range from Newtonian behavior at low shear rates, through a transition region, to power law behavior at higher shear rates. The analysis identified a dimensionless shear rate parameter which, for a given set of operating conditions, specifies where in the shear rate range a particular system is operating, i.e. in the Newtonian, transition, or power law regions. The numerical results of the friction factor times Reynolds number for the Newtonian and power law region are compared with previously published results showing agreement within 0.05% in the Newtonian region, and 0.9% and 5.1% in the power law region. Rheological flow curves were measured for three CMC-7H4 solutions and were found to be well represented by the MPL constitutive equation. The friction factor times Reynolds number values were measured in the transition region for which previous measurements were unavailable. Good agreement was found between experiment and calculation thus confirming the validity of the analysis.     

The problem of processing time series: Extending possibilities of the local approximation method using singular spectrum analysis

We present algorithms for singular spectrum analysis and local approximation methods used to extrapolate time series. We analyze the advantages and disadvantages of these methods and consider the peculiarities of applying them to various systems. Based on this analysis, we propose a generalization of the local approximation method that makes it suitable for forecasting very noisy time series. Asymptotic Behavior of the Sum of the Dirichlet Series of Prescribed Growth on Curves

We study the relationship between the growth and decrease of the sum of the entire Dirichlet series of finite order (in the sense of Ritt) on arbitrary curves going to infinity. Novel miniature high power ring filter

The power handling capability of high temperature superconducting (HTS) filters is limited due to current concentration at the edges of the superconducting films. This problem can be overcome by using ring resonator, which employs the edge current free and reduces the current concentration. However, this kind of filter has large size. In order to reduce the cost and size and increase the power handling capability, in this paper a HTS photonic bandgap (PBG) structure filter is developed. The proposed pass band filter with PBG structure exhibits center frequency 12.23 GHz, steepness (about 35 dB/GHz), bandwidth (−3 dB bandwidth is 0.045 GHz), and low insertion loss (about −0.5 dB), and can handle input power up to 1 W (this value was limited by the measurement instrument used in the experiment). The size is reduced by 25%, insertion loss reduced by 37.5%, and steeper roll-off of the filter is also obtained compared with that in published literature.
