Hysteresis phenomena in the light self-diffraction in a dense resonant medium

On the basis of the modified Bloch equations a theory is developed of the light self-diffraction in a thin film of a dense resonant medium with allowance for the dipole-dipole interactions of atoms. It is shown that for certain values of intensity of an external field, there occurs in the film the light-induced first-kind phase transition which causes the emergence of regions (domains) with the high excitation of atoms. The switching effects of the system dense resonant medium + periodically-modulated field under consideration result in a hysteresis behaviour in the dependence of the diffraction efficiency on the adiabatically changing intensity of the external field. The predicted hysteresis offers additional potentialities in the investigation of the dynamics of the first-kind phase transition in dense media and outlook for usage of the film as a switching logical element.     

Resonance frequencies and threshold gains of distributed feedback lasers with strong modulations

In this paper the calculation of resonance frequencies and threshold gains of distributed feedback (DFB) lasers with strong modulations is discussed. The theory is based on the Floquet solutions of a complex Hill differential equation. The dispersion relation of the above solutions is shown to be of importance for the behaviour of the resonances of the DFB laser.     

A Barbier type reaction promoted by in situ formed active metal bismuth from NaBH_4 and BiCl_3 in aqueous media

In the presence of active metal bismuth (Bi) which was prepared from the combination of bismuth trichloride and sodium borohydride,aldehydes have been found to react with allyl bromide in aqueous media,and the corresponding homoallylic alcohols were obtained in excellent yields with high chemo-and stereoselectivity.

A perturbation boundary integral equation method for analysis of interaction between foundation and nonlinear rock and soil medium

A scheme is developed for analysing the interaction between a foundation and a nonlinear rock and soil medium, in which the foundation is considered as a linear elastic body and a typical boundary integral equation method (BIEM) is employed. On the basis of taking the nonlinear properties of the medium into account, a perturbation BIEM is developed. The fundamental equations for the nonlinear coupling analysis are formulated, and typical problems are solved and discussed by the present method.     

Effect of magnetic-field-induced torsion on neutrinos and supernova collapse

Summary The neutrino emission from supernova 1987A is being studied by taking into consideration the effect of the magnetic field present in the star. The magnetic field generates an anisotropic feature in the local space-time, which in turn leads to the cancellation of the axial-vector part of the neutrino current. The interaction cross-section of these neutrinos in the course of their interaction with matter on Earth has an inverse square energy dependence. The present work presents the calculations based on this changed cross-section that relates to predictions of the expected number of events at KAMIOKANDE on the basis of the Mont Blanc signal. It might be interesting to take a look into the implications of these results. The author of this paper has agreed to not receive the proofs for correction.     

Random walk in a random medium in one dimension

Applying scaling and universality arguments, the long-time behavior of the probability distribution for a random walk in a one-dimensional random medium satisfying Sinai's constraint is obtained analytically. The convergence to this asymptotic limit and the fluctuations of this distribution are evaluated by solving numerically the stochastic equations for this walk.

本文通过分析雨滴其对激光的散射和吸收作用,研究激光在大气中传输时受雨滴作用的影响,计算不同雨滴对激光光强的影响,在不同降雨下,测试激光光强的变化,并通过软件仿真实时显示光斑的闪烁、漂移,为进一步优化激光通信系统性能设计、最终实现全天候超视距的大气激光通信做有意义的探索。

通过对大气湍流效应的分析,研究了激光在大气中传输时受大气随机信道的影响,通过软件实时显示光斑的闪烁、漂移,为进一步优化激光通信系统性能设计,最终实现全天候的大气激光通信做了有意义的探索。     

Evaluation of the protein solvent-accessible surface using reduced representations in terms of critical points of the electron density

The aim of our study is the development of a method for calculating the interface of dimerization of protein-protein complexes based on simplified medium-resolution structures. In particular, we wished to evaluate if the existing concepts for the computation of the Solvent-Accessible Surface Area (SASA) of macromolecules could be applied to medium-resolution models. Therefore, we selected a set of 140 protein chains and computed their reduced representations by topological analysis of their electron density maps at 2.85 A crystallographic resolution. This procedure leads to a limited number of critical points (CPs) that can be identified and associated to backbone and side-chain parts. To evaluate the SASA and interfaces of dimerization of the reduced representations, we chose and modified two existing programs that calculate the SASA of atomic representations, and tested (1) several radii tables of amino acids, (2) the influence of the backbone and side-chain points, and (3) the radius of the solvent molecule, which rolls over the surface. The results are shown in terms of relative error compared to the values calculated on the corresponding atomic representations of the proteins.
