In materials with negative refraction, the direction of wave propagation is opposite to the direction of the wave vector. Using an approach that characterizes the optical response of a medium totally by a generalized dielectric permittivity, , we discuss the possibility of seeing negative refraction for optical waves in a number of nonmagnetic media. These include bulk waves in organic materials and in gyrotropic materials where additional exciton–polariton waves can have a negative group velocity. It is known that dispersion of surface waves can be engineered by tailoring a surface transition layer. We show how this effect can be used to obtain surface waves with negative refraction. 相似文献

The reaction of symmetrical (thio)barbituric acids with aldehydes in the presence of 4-methyl morpholine yielded a new form of 4-methyl morpholinium bis-(thio)barbiturate containing charge-separated intermolecular and eight-membered intramolecular H-bonds. X-ray Crystallography, FT-IR, and 1H and 13C-NMR spectroscopy techniques were used for structure characterizations. Some of these compounds showed potent anticancer activities. Cytotoxicity of the synthetic compounds against HeLa and MCF-7 cell lines were performed by MTT assay. In addition, a comparative molecular field analysis was carried out, and the effects of substituents on the biological activities of these compounds were explained. 相似文献

Single crystals of a cyclodextrin‐based metal–organic framework (MOF) infused with an ionic electrolyte and flanked by silver electrodes act as memristors. They can be electrically switched between low and high conductivity states that persist even in the absence of an applied voltage. In this way, these small blocks of nanoporous sugar function as a non‐volatile RRAM memory elements that can be repeatedly read, erased, and re‐written. These properties derive from ionic current within the MOF and the deposition of nanometer‐thin passivating layers at the anode flanking the MOF crystal. The observed phenomena are crucially dependent on the sub‐nanometer widths of the channels in the MOF, allowing the passage of only smaller ions. Conversely, with the electrolyte present but no MOF, there are no memristance or memory effects. 相似文献

Proline‐rich antimicrobial peptides (PrAMPs) have been investigated and optimized by several research groups and companies as promising lead compounds to treat systemic infections caused by Gram‐negative bacteria. PrAMPs, such as apidaecins and oncocins, enter the bacteria and kill them apparently through inhibition of specific targets without a lytic effect on the membranes. Both apidaecins and oncocins were shown to bind with nanomolar dissociation constants to the 70S ribosome. In apidaecins, at least the two C‐terminal residues (Arg17 and Leu18) interact strongly with the 70S ribosome, whereas residues Lys3, Tyr6, Leu7, and Arg11 are the major interaction sites in oncocins. Oncocins inhibited protein biosynthesis very efficiently in vitro with half maximal inhibitory concentrations (IC50 values) of 150 to 240 nmol L ?1. The chaperone DnaK is most likely not the main target of PrAMPs but it binds them with lower affinity. 相似文献

Ginseng is a well‐known traditional Chinese medicinal herb, and ginsenosides are its major active components. A method for the fast determination of ginsenosides in ginseng samples by high‐performance liquid chromatography was developed and used for the quantitative analysis of four ginsenosides in three different ginseng samples. In this method, instead of time‐consuming gradient elution, isocratic elution was used to speed up the analysis. Under strong isocratic elution, all the ginsenosides are eluted in 2.3 min. Although the measured signal is composed of overlapped peaks with the interferences and background, the signal of ginsenosides can be extracted by chemometric resolution. A non‐negative immune algorithm was employed to obtain the chromatographic information of the target components from the data. Compared with conventional chemometric approaches, the method can perform the extraction for one‐dimensional overlapping signals. The method was validated by the determination of four ginsenosides in three different ginseng samples. The recoveries of the spiked samples were in the range of 94.08–107.3%. 相似文献

In 2008, Satoshi Nakamoto famously invented bitcoin, and in his (or her, or their, or its) white paper sketched an approximate formula for the probability of a successful double spending attack by a dishonest party. This was corrected by Meni Rosenfeld, who, under more realistic assumptions, gave the exact probability (missing a foundational proof); and another formula (along with foundational proof), in terms of the Incomplete Beta function, was given later by Cyril Grunspan and Ricardo Pérez-Marco, that enabled them to derive an asymptotic formula for that quantity. Using Wilf-Zeilberger algorithmic proof theory, we continue in this vein and present a recurrence equation for the above-mentioned probability of success, that enables a very fast compilation of these probabilities. We next use this recurrence to derive (in algorithmic fashion) higher-order asymptotic formulas, extending the formula of Grunspan and Pérez-Marco who did the leading term. We then study the statistical properties (expectation, variance, etc.) of the duration of a successful attack. 相似文献

A new family of penalty functions, ie, adaptive to likelihood, is introduced for model selection in general regression models. It arises naturally through assuming certain types of prior distribution on the regression parameters. To study the stability properties of the penalized maximum‐likelihood estimator, 2 types of asymptotic stability are defined. Theoretical properties, including the parameter estimation consistency, model selection consistency, and asymptotic stability, are established under suitable regularity conditions. An efficient coordinate‐descent algorithm is proposed. Simulation results and real data analysis show that the proposed approach has competitive performance in comparison with the existing methods. 相似文献
