Galactic Metrics     
The paths of stars in galaxies have circular velocity independent of their distance from the centre of the galaxy. Newtonian mechanics with a logarithmic potential has such paths. In relativity these paths can be taken to be geodesics and this requirement places a restricting equation on the spacetime metric. This equation has a non-unique spherically symmetric solution that in the Newtonian limit has a logarithmic potential. It also can be solved in terms of a conformal factor. In particular it has solutions which are conformal to the vacuum-Einstein solutions and such spacetimes are solutions to the vacuum-Bach equations. Therefore it is suggested that the Bach equations describe dynamics on galactic length scales.  相似文献

We consider isentropic gas dynamics equations with unilateral constraint on the density and mass loss. The γ and pressureless pressure laws are considered. We propose an entropy weak formulation of the system that incorporates the constraint and Lagrange multiplier, for which we prove weak stability and existence of solutions. The nonzero pressure model is approximated by a kinetic BGK relaxation model, while the pressureless model is approximated by a sticky-blocks dynamics with mass loss.  相似文献

In this paper we address the problem of scheduling unit time jobs in a flowshop to minimize makespan under a discrete renewable resource constraint. We propose algorithms having complexityO(n) for special cases of two machine and three machine problems. For the three machineN P-hard problem we develop a branch and bound procedure and several upper and lower bounds. We use a driving field, of the type first suggested by Evans, to generate a steady heat current in the simplest possible system, a two-dimensional periodic fluid of three hard disks. Hard-disk motion equations can be conveniently derived from repulsive constant-force or linear-force potentials by considering the infinitely repulsive limit of these potentials. We show that the isoenergetic and isokinetic forms of the nonequilibrium equations of motion generate steady-state heat conductivities differing by terms of order 1/N, whereN is the number of particles. The resulting conductivities appear to vary as the logarithm of the driving field strength. Even at low fields, the three-body periodic-system results lie well below Enskog's infinite-system prediction.  相似文献

We consider a model in which the representative investor makes optimal portfolio and consumption choices robust to ambiguity with a sustainable constraint. We find that the influences of ambiguity on risk-taking are two ways. Those are gambling when the risk-free interest rate is less than a critical value, but derisk when the risk-free interest rate is greater than the critical value. Moreover, the erosion of ambiguity on consumption is more substantial in constrained cases, and ambiguity will magnify welfare losses.  相似文献

We consider the minimization of a quadratic formzVz+2zq subject to the two-norm constraint z=. The problem received considerable attention in the literature, notably due to its applications to a class of trust region methods in nonlinear optimization. While the previous studies were concerned with just the global minimum of the problem, we investigate the existence of all local minima. The problem is approached via the dual Lagrangian, and the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of all local minima are derived. We also examine the suitability of the conventional numerical techniques used to solve the problem to a class of single-instruction multiple-data computers known as processor arrays (in our case, AMT DAP 610). Simultaneously, we introduce certain hardware-oriented multisection algorithms, showing their efficiency in the case of small to medium size problems.This research was partially supported by the National Physical Laboratories of England under Contract RTP2/155/127.  相似文献

In the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity the integral form of the Hamiltonian constraint contains explicitly theadm energy in the case of asymptotically flat space-times. We show that such expression of the constraint leads to a natural and straightforward construction of a Schrödinger equation for time-dependent physical states. The quantized Hamiltonian constraint is thus written as an energy eigenvalue equation. We further analyse the constraint equations in the case of a space-time endowed with a spherically symmetric geometry. We find the general functional form of the time-dependent solutions of the quantized Hamiltonian and vector constraints.  相似文献
