Mathematical Modeling to Simulate the Movement of Contaminants in Groundwater

The objectives of this paper are twofold. Firstly, we formulate a system of partial differential equations that models the contamination of groundwater due to migration of dissolved contaminants through unsaturated to saturated zone. A closed form solution using the singular perturbation techniques for the flow and solute transport equations in the unsaturated zone is obtained. Indeed, the solution can be used as a tool to verify the accuracy of numerical models of water flow and solute transport. The second part of this paper, deals with how the water level in a water reserve drops due to pumping water out of a well that is some distance away.     

Block Transformation of Hybrid Cellular Automata

By introducing a sequence-block transformation and vector-block transformation, we explore the dynamical properties of hybrid cellular automation (HCA) and hybrid cellular automation with memory (HCAM) in the framework of symbolic dynamics. As the local evolution rules of HCA and HCAM are not-uniform, the new uniform cellular automata (CAs) with multiple states are constructed by specifical the block transformations. Furthermore, because the new CA rules are topologically conjugate with the originals, the complex dynamics of the HCA and HCAM rules can be investigated via the new CA rules.     

Solving nonlinear ordinary differential equations using the NDM

In this research paper, we examine a novel method called the Natural Decomposition Method (NDM). We use the NDM to obtain exact solutions for three different types of nonlinear ordinary differential equations (NLODEs). The NDM is based on the Natural transform method (NTM) and the Adomian decomposition method (ADM). By using the new method, we successfully handle some class of nonlinear ordinary differential equations in a simple and elegant way. The proposed method gives exact solutions in the form of a rapid convergence series. Hence, the Natural Decomposition Method (NDM) is an excellent mathematical tool for solving linear and nonlinear differential equation. One can conclude that the NDM is efficient and easy to use.

Variations on a theme of Boole and Stein-Weiss

We give an alternative proof of a theorem of Stein and Weiss: The distribution function of the Hilbert transform of a characteristic function of a set E only depends on the Lebesgue measure |E| of such a set. We exploit a rational change of variable of the type used by George Boole in his paper “On the comparison of transcendents, with certain applications to the theory of definite integrals” together with the observation that if two functions f and g have the same Lp norm in a range of exponents p₁<p<p₂ then their distribution functions coincide.     

Annihilating sets for the short time Fourier transform

We obtain a class of subsets of R2d such that the support of the short time Fourier transform (STFT) of a signal f∈L²(Rd) with respect to a window g∈L²(Rd) cannot belong to this class unless f or g is identically zero. Moreover we prove that the L²-norm of the STFT is essentially concentrated in the complement of such a set. A generalization to other Hilbert spaces of functions or distributions is also provided. To this aim we obtain some results on compactness of localization operators acting on weighted modulation Hilbert spaces.     

Spectral regularization method for a Cauchy problem of the time fractional advection-dispersion equation

In this paper, a Cauchy problem for the time fractional advection-dispersion equation (TFADE) is investigated. Such a problem is obtained from the classical advection-dispersion equation by replacing the first-order time derivative by the Caputo fractional derivative of order . We show that the Cauchy problem of TFADE is severely ill-posed and further apply a spectral regularization method to solve it based on the solution given by the Fourier method. The convergence estimate is obtained under a priori bound assumptions for the exact solution. Numerical examples are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed numerical method.

运用所给出的引理及离散的Fourier变换, 在$L_2[-\pi, \pi]$上讨论了一类具周期性的含卷积核与余割核$\csc(\tau-\theta)$混合的奇异积分方程,把此类方程转化为离散跃度问题, 得到了方程的可解条件和一般解的显式.

幂变换是多元线性回归分析中数据预处理的有效办法之一.以胰岛素注射治疗糖尿病为例,探讨幂变换实用的条件、研究方法及研究结论,并将幂变换处理后的变量,用于线性回归分析,研究医学问题.具体就是通过对变量数据描述性分析了解数据的特点,相关分析及聚类分析确定胰岛素初始剂量的重要影响因素,幂变换对数据进行预处理,继而进行回归分析,并对比变换前初步回归分析的结果,确定最终以尿蛋白分类标准,RI用量与血糖的对数之间的线性回归模型.
