The busy period of an M/M/1 queue with balking and reneging

It has been shown by (R.O. Al-Seedy, A.A. El-Sherbiny, S.A. El-Shehawy, S.I. Ammar, Transient solution of the M/M/c queue with balking and reneging, Comput. Math. Appl. 57 (2009) 1280–1285) that a generating function technique can be successfully applied to derive the transient solution for an M/M/c queueing system. In this paper, we further illustrate how this technique can be used to obtain the busy period density function of an M/M/1 queue with balking and reneging. Finally, numerical calculations are presented.     

Mock period functions in higher level cases

Generalizing the results of Bringmann, Diamantis and Raum [3] we investigate a generating series of non-critical values which can be interpreted as a mock period function and prove that non-critical values can be encoded into a sesquiharmonic Maass form in higher level cases. Moreover we prove Eichler–Shimura-type isomorphism for the space of period polynomials and for that of mock period functions in level p   with p∈{2,3}$p\in \{2,3\}$.     

改进蚁群算法优化周期性车辆路径问题

周期性车辆路径问题(PVRP)是标准车辆路径问题(VRP)的扩展,PVRP将配送期由单一配送期延伸到T(T＞1)期,因此,PVRP需要优化每个配送期的顾客组合和配送路径。由于PVRP是一个内嵌VRP的问题,其比标准VRP问题更加复杂,难于求解。本文采用蚁群算法对PVRP进行求解,并提出采用两种改进措施——多维信息素的运用和基于扫描法的局部优化方法来提高算法的性能。最后,通过9个经典PVRP算例对该算法进行了数据实验,结果表明本文提出的改进蚁群算法求解PVRP问题是可行有效的,同时也表明两种改进措施可以显著提高算法的性能。     

A new approach to the busy period of the M/M/1 queue

In this paper, we provide a new approach to the computation of the Laplace transform of the length of the busy period of the M/M/1 queue with constrained workload (finite dam), without the use of complex analysis. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.

A statistical process control approach to selecting a warm-up period for a discrete-event simulation

The selection of a warm-up period for a discrete-event simulation continues to be problematic. A variety of selection methods have been devised, and are briefly reviewed. It is apparent that no one method can be recommended above any other. A new approach, based upon the principles of statistical process control, is described (SPC method). Because simulation output data are often highly autocorrelated and potentially non-normal, the batch means method is employed in constructing the control chart. The SPC method is tested on seven data sets and encouraging results are obtained concerning its accuracy. The approach is also discussed with respect to its ease of implementation, simplicity, generality of use and requirements for parameter estimation.     

Tail asymptotics for the fundamental period in the MAP/G/1 queue

This paper studies the tail behavior of the fundamental period in the MAP/G/1 queue. We prove that if the service time distribution has a regularly varying tail, then the fundamental period distribution in the MAP/G/1 queue has also regularly varying tail, and vice versa, by finding an explicit expression for the asymptotics of the tail of the fundamental period in terms of the tail of the service time distribution. Our main result with the matrix analytic proof is a natural extension of the result in (de Meyer and Teugels, J. Appl. Probab. 17: 802–813, 1980) on the M/G/1 queue where techniques rely heavily on analytic expressions of relevant functions. I.-S.
