Abstract We used absorption spectroscopy to observe decomposition of benzene (C6H6) subjected to the passage of strong shock waves generated by projectile impact. These measurements were made using a recently developed double-beam, double-pass, fiber-optic-coupled apparatus. Near 13 GPa, we observe absorption throughout most of the visible region, with strong absorption occurring for wavelengths below 400 nm. The absorption is most likely due to a combination of molecular absorption and Mie scattering from carbon particles formed as a result of shock decomposition. 相似文献

We study a one parameter variational wave function to improve the spin density wave ground state of the Hubbard model by inclusion of quantum spin fluctuations. Using a perturbative approach and novel lattice summation techniques we present analytical as well as numerical results for the correlation energies and the staggered magnetizations in one and two dimensions. We find ground state energies which are satisfyingly close to known exact results and are significantly lower than those of existing Gutzwiller and numerical treatments. 相似文献

The new theory of sporadic E density oscillation with double atmospheric gravity wave (AGW) frequency in two-dimensional case taking into account ions ambipolar diffusion is presented. It is found that densities of multi-layered sporadic E, formed under the influence of atmospheric vortical perturbation (with vertical wavelength λz≠0) evolving in the horizontal shear flow (shear wave), can oscillate with up to double Brunt-Väisälä frequency under the action of short-period AGW, in which shear wave is transformed. The formation of multi-layered sporadic E (inside regions with vertical thickness about λz/2) and its density changes in every half AGW period close to ions convergence region occur by combined action of ion-neutral collision and Lorentz forcing and can cause additional accumulation of ions responsible for sporadic E density oscillation with double AGW frequency. 相似文献

The goal in this work is to investigate the effectiveness of time-frequency representations for analysing dispersive waves by comparing the performance of three different methods. In particular, the smoothed pseudo-Wigner distribution, the continuous wavelet transform and the Hilbert-Huang transform are compared and evaluated in terms of their ability to analyse dispersive elastic waves. The waves under consideration are transient flexural ones generated by an impact in a beam. We investigate the interference of a kicked harmonic oscillator in phase space.With the measure of interference defined in Lee and Jeong[Phys.Rev.Lett.106(2011)220401],we show that interference increases more rapidly in the chaotic regime than in the regular regime,and that the sub-Planck structure is of importance for the decoherence time in the chaotic regime.We also find that interference plays an important role in energy transport between the kicking fields and the kicked harmonic oscillator. 相似文献

The Kadomtsev-Petviashvili equation describes nonlinear dispersive waves which travel mainly in one direction, generalizing the Korteweg-de Vries equation for purely uni-directional waves. In this Letter we derive an improved KP-equation that has exact dispersion in the main propagation direction and that is accurate in second order of the wave height. Moreover, different from the KP-equation, this new equation is also valid for waves on deep water. These properties are inherited from the AB-equation (E. van Groesen, Andonowati, 2007 [1]) which is the unidirectional improvement of the KdV equation. The derivation of the equation uses the variational formulation of surface water waves, and inherits the basic Hamiltonian structure. 相似文献

Using conformal coordinates associated with conformal relativity—associated with de Sitter spacetime homeomorphic projection into Minkowski spacetime—we obtain a conformal Klein-Gordon partial differential equation, which is intimately related to the production of quasi-normal modes (QNMs) oscillations, in the context of electromagnetic and/or gravitational perturbations around, e.g., black holes. While QNMs arise as the solution of a wave-like equation with a Pöschl-Teller potential, here we deduce and analytically solve a conformal ‘radial’ d’Alembert-like equation, from which we derive QNMs formal solutions, in a proposed alternative to more completely describe QNMs. As a by-product we show that this ‘radial’ equation can be identified with a Schrödinger-like equation in which the potential is exactly the second Pöschl-Teller potential, and it can shed some new light on the investigations concerning QNMs. 相似文献
