Complex permittivity spectra in the frequency range 0.95v (GHz)89 for acetonitrile and its solutions of LiBr, NaI, NaClO4, and Bu4NBr at 25°C show one Debye equation for the neat solvent whereas the superposition of a Debye process for the solute and a Cole-Cole distribution for the solvent is necessary to account for the dielectric relaxation behavior of the solutions. The reorientation of bulk acetonitrile is diffusive and only weakly coupled to viscosity. The number of solvent molecules irrotationally bound to the electrolyte is in good agreement with conventional solvation numbers for all electrolytes, when kinetic depolarization is assumed to be negligible. The solute relaxation process is dominated by the formation kinetics and reorientation of contact ion pairs. There is evidence for solvent-shared ion pairs in dilute NaClO4 solutions. 相似文献

The relaxation of electric field-induced polar orientation in a side-chain-bearing liquid-crystalline polysiloxane was measured by means of thermally stimulated depolarization currents. Different relaxation mechanisms were identified and characterized: the glass transition cooperative relaxation exhibits compensation behaviour. The dielectric properties of a series of poly(ester-ether-carbonate) multiblock terpolymers have been investigated as a function of ether and carbonate composition in the frequency range of 103–106 Hz. The degree of polymerization of the samples was determined by viscosimetry measurements. The weight fraction, degree of crystallinity, and melting temperatures were characterized by means of x-ray diffraction and DSC methods. Dielectric behavior has been discussed in terms of Havriliak-Negami formulation. The variation of the dielectric properties with temperature has been associated with two relaxation processes: a) the -relaxation process observed at low temperature, which is associated to local motion of polar groups attached to both the soft and the hard segments, and b) the process assigned to long-range molecular motions above the glass transition temperature. 相似文献

A time-domain 1H nuclear magnetic resonance relaxometry method was elaborated for the rapid microstructural characterization of mozzarella cheese. For this purpose, there is a strong need to know how the experimentally determined T2 relaxation time distribution can be related to specific constituents in mozzarella. In this study, a detailed investigation is offered for fresh and aged low-moisture mozzarella cheese, often applied as a pizza cheese, by application of both a conventional Carr–Purcell–Meiboom–Gill (CPMG) sequence and a free-induction decay CPMG (FID-CPMG) sequence. The relaxation behavior was further elucidated by addition of deuterium oxide and by mild heat treatment of samples. The relaxation times of water protons in mozzarella were found to range from a few microseconds to some tens of milliseconds (in aged mozzarella) or to about hundred milliseconds (in fresh mozzarella). The upper limit of the T2 distribution can even be extended to the seconds range upon releasing water protons from the mozzarella matrix using a mild heat treatment or upon addition of deuterated water. Both stimuli also provided evidence for the absorption of water into the cheese matrix. The potential release and uptake of water demonstrated that mozzarella acts as a very dynamic system during production and storage. The detected differences in the behavior of the water fraction between fresh and aged low-moisture mozzarella might be utilized to study the influence of either production and/or storage conditions on the cheese ripening process. 相似文献

The dipole dynamics and α-relaxation behaviour of polyvinyl chloride PVC, poly(ethylene-co-vinyl-acetate) EVA70 and blend of them EVA70/PVC have been investigated by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and dielectric relaxation spectroscopy (DRS). The differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) thermograms measured on samples show a single glass transition in the analysed temperature range. These three polymers are wholly amorphous and pure PVC and pure EVA70 are miscible in the ratio 1:1. The glass transition temperature Tg decreases significantly with presence of EVA70. Furthermore, the values of apparent activation energies for molecular motions at the α-relaxation and the values of fragility index have also been determined for each sample using Moynihan expression for DSC results and Vogel-Fulcher-Tammann-Hesse (VFTH) form for DRS results. It is shown a large dependence of all the values of these parameters with the content of EVA70. Comparing these three polymers, we found that the more fragile glass forming liquid is the PVC. Fragility decreases drastically with EVA70 content. EVA70 and EVA70/PVC blend exhibit practically the same behaviour. The effect of inter- and intra-molecular interactions on fragility is discussed to explain these variations. 相似文献

Large separation of magnetic levels and slow relaxation in metal complexes are desirable properties of single-molecule magnets (SMMs). Spin-phonon coupling (interactions of magnetic levels with phonons) is ubiquitous, leading to magnetic relaxation and loss of memory in SMMs and quantum coherence in qubits. Direct observation of magnetic transitions and spin-phonon coupling in molecules is challenging. We have found that far-IR magnetic spectra (FIRMS) of Co(PPh3)2X2 ( Co-X ; X=Cl, Br, I) reveal rarely observed spin-phonon coupling as avoided crossings between magnetic and u-symmetry phonon transitions. Inelastic neutron scattering (INS) gives phonon spectra. Calculations using VASP and phonopy programs gave phonon symmetries and movies. Magnetic transitions among zero-field split (ZFS) levels of the S=3/2 electronic ground state were probed by INS, high-frequency and -field EPR (HFEPR), FIRMS, and frequency-domain FT terahertz EPR (FD-FT THz-EPR), giving magnetic excitation spectra and determining ZFS parameters (D, E) and g values. Ligand-field theory (LFT) was used to analyze earlier electronic absorption spectra and give calculated ZFS parameters matching those from the experiments. DFT calculations also gave spin densities in Co-X , showing that the larger Co(II) spin density in a molecule, the larger its ZFS magnitude. The current work reveals dynamics of magnetic and phonon excitations in SMMs. Studies of such couplings in the future would help to understand how spin-phonon coupling may lead to magnetic relaxation and develop guidance to control such coupling. 相似文献
