Direct calculation of ionization potentials of closed-shell atoms and molecules

Vertical ionization potentials, electron affinities and information about quasi-particles can be obtained by using the technique of the single-particle propagator. The expansion of the self-energy part up to third order perturbation theory can be evaluated numerically, but does not lead, in most cases, to satisfying results. A theoretical and numerical analysis of the diagrammatic expansion of the self-energy part requires the introduction of a renormalized interaction and renormalized hole and particle lines.     

Synthesis and Properties of Novel Hemicyanine Dye-β-Cyclodextrin

A series of novel hemicyanine dye-β-cyclodextrin compounds： mono-6-deoxy-β-cyclodextrin-6-[p-（p-substituted styryl）pyridium] p-totylfulfonates were synthesized by the condensation of mono-6-deoxy-β- cyclodextrin-6-（p-methyl pyridinium） p-toluenesulfonate with （un）substituted benzaldehydes. Their structures were established by 1^H NMR, IR, UV-Vis and elemental analysis. The absorption and fluorescence properties of the novel compounds were measured in solution and the photostability of a selected hemicyanine dye-β-cyclodextrin compound was also investigated.     

HPLC Analysis of Cotinine in Urine After SPE with a Cholesterol-Modified Adsorbent

A one-step solid-phase extraction procedure, based on a new silica gel adsorbent modified with cholesterol groups, has been investigated for measurement of cotinine in urine. Cotinine is the main metabolite of nicotine in the human body and is analyzed as a biomarker for assessment of direct or passive exposure to tobacco smoke. New cholesterol-modified adsorbents have been obtained by chemical modification of silica gel of different porosity with cholesterol ligands. Although recovery by this extraction procedure were optimum over a relatively broad range of sample pH (3.1–8.0), analytical conditions such as sample loading, washing and elution conditions, concentration of cotinine to be extracted, and the type of adsorbent used for extraction were found to affect the efficiency of the procedure and had to be controlled for optimum recovery. When these conditions were controlled, recovery of cotinine from spiked human urine was reproducible and depended on compound ionization. Quantitative analysis of cotinine was performed by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography with UV detection. Chemical Constituents from the Root of Antidesma Pentandrum var. Barbatum

Investigation of the root extract of Antidesma pentandrum var. barbatum led to the isolation of seven new compounds, antidesmol ( 1 ), antidesmanins E ( 2 ) and F ( 3 ), antidesnone ( 4 ), antidesnol ( 5 ), barbatumols A ( 6 ) and B ( 7 ), together with 14 known compounds including sodium aristolochate‐I ( 10 ) and aristolochic acid‐I methyl ester ( 11 ).     

Reaction of cyclopentadienyllutetium anthracenide with azobenzene. Synthesis and molecular and crystal structure of the binuclear complex [C5H5(THF)Lu(μ−η2:η2−PhN—NPh)]2(THF)2 and its dynamic behavior in solution

The reaction of the cyclopentadienyllutetium anthracenide, C₅H₅Lu(C₁₄H₁₀)²⁻(THF)₂ (1), with azobenzene yielded the [C₅H₅(THF)Lu(μ−η²:η²−PhN—NPh)]₂(THF)₂ (2) binuclear complex. The structure of the reaction product was established by X-ray structural analysis. The dynamic behavior of complex2 in a THF-d₈ solution was studied by¹H NMR spectroscopy in the temperature range of 265–330 K. Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. Synthesis and reactivity of metal-containing monomers

Acid and neutral Co^II, Cu^II, Ni^II, Zn^II, Fe^II, and Fe^III maleates, fumarates, and itaconates were obtained and characterized. The methods for their synthesis were optimized, and the valence state and coordination of metals were studied. Co^II and Fe^II hydrogen maleates, Co^II maleate, and Co^II fumarate were examined by X-ray diffraction analysis. The ligands based on unsaturated dicarboxylic acids can be mono-, bi-, and tetradentate, which results in the formation of acid salts, chain and three-dimensional coordination polymers, whose double bond is not involved in the coordination. The strong antiferromagnetic exchange (μ_elf=1.41 and 0.34 μ_B at 290 and 80 K, respectively) was detected in Cu^II itaconate. Based on the data of Mössbauer spectroscopy, the partial reduction of Fe^III to Fe^II during the synthesis of Fe^III maleate was shown to occur: δFe=0.43 and 1.27 mm s^?1, ΔE _Q=0.57 and 3.13 mm s^?1 and Γ=0.37 and 0.28 mm s^?1 atT=298 K for Fe^III and Fe^II, respectively.     

Effect of temperature of liquid sulphur on kinetics of transformation of chains in its amorphous modification

The rate of transformation of the chains in amorphous sulphur was examined by calorimetry at 298 K. The amorphous samples were remelted at the temperatureT _f in the range from 458 to 573 K. Increase ofT _f decreased the transformation rate. The results satisfy the equationX=1-exp[-(kt)^z] (X=transformation degree,t=time, andk andz=constants). A one-stage transformation was observed for samples remelted atT _f473 K. ForT _f 523 K, transformation in two stages was observed.The effects ofT _f on the kinetics of nucleation and the growth of the nuclei are discussed.     

Sample capacity in open tubular and micro-packed columns for GC

Equations have been derived from which the maximum sample size which may be loaded on a column without significantly affecting the performance may be calculated. It is shown that micro-packed columns can handle a sample which is as much as forty times larger than that which can be loaded onto wall-coated open tubular columns with comparable conditions.     

New activated bisfluoroaromatic compounds

Bis (p-fluorophenylethynyl) derivatives were obtained by the reaction of bisbromoaromatic compounds withp-fluorophenylacetylene in the presence of a Pd catalyst.
