Necessary and sufficient conditions in constrained optimization

Additional conditions are attached to the Kuhn-Tucker conditions giving a set of conditions which are both necessary and sufficient for optimality in constrained optimization, under appropriate constraint qualifications. Necessary and sufficient conditions are also given for optimality of the dual problem. Duality and converse duality are treated accordingly.     

Comparison of the boundary theory with the contact rule of phase regions and Gupta’s method

The phase boundary theory and the contact rule of phase regions are compared, and some weaknesses of the latter are manifested. The comparison between the Gupta’s method and the boundary theory method for constructing multicomponent isobaric sections is also presented.     

High order generalized upwind schemes and numerical solution of singular perturbation problems

High even order generalizations of the traditional upwind method are introduced to solve second order ODE-BVPs without recasting the problem as a first order system. Both theoretical analysis and numerical comparison with central difference schemes of the same order show that these new methods may avoid typical oscillations and achieve high accuracy. Singular perturbation problems are taken into account to emphasize the main features of the proposed methods. AMS subject classification (2000)  65L10, 65L12, 65L50     

On the Lp–Lq maximal regularity for Stokes equations with Robin boundary condition in a bounded domain

We obtain the L_p–L_q maximal regularity of the Stokes equations with Robin boundary condition in a bounded domain in ?ⁿ (n?2). The Robin condition consists of two conditions: v ? u=0 and αu+β(T(u, p)v – 〈T(u, p)v, v〉v)=h on the boundary of the domain with α, β?0 and α+β=1, where u and p denote a velocity vector and a pressure, T(u, p) the stress tensor for the Stokes flow and v the unit outer normal to the boundary of the domain. It presents the slip condition when β=1 and non‐slip one when α=1, respectively. The slip condition is appropriate for problems that involve free boundaries. 基于Ritt-Wu特征集方法和Riquier-Janet理论,给出一种将线性微分方程组化成简单标准形式的有效算法．该算法通过消去冗余和添加可积条件获得线性微分方程组的完全可积系统(有形式幂级数解)或不相容判定．该算法不仅适用于常系数的线性偏微分方程组,而且对于变系数(以函数为系数)仍然有效．作者还给出了完全可积系统判定定理及其严格证明．

On existence and regularity of solutions for 2‐D micropolar fluid equations with periodic boundary conditions

In this paper, we prove the existence and uniqueness of a global solution for 2‐D micropolar fluid equation with periodic boundary conditions. Then we restrict ourselves to the autonomous case and show the existence of a global attractor. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Positive solutions of singular boundary value problem of negative exponent Emden—Fowler equation

This paper investigates the existence of positive solutions of a singular boundary value problem with negative exponent similar to standard Emden-Fowler equation. A necessary and sufficient condition for the existence of C[0, 1] positive solutions as well as C¹[0, 1] positive solutions is given by means of the method of lower and upper solutions with the Schauder fixed point theorem.
