Void fraction measurements were made using capacitance method. Five capacitor configurations were manufactured and tested; parallel, strip-type plates, ring-type plates, unidirectional, and double-helix. The void fraction was simulated by nonflow air-paraffin wax, air-glass, air-wood, and air-Freon 113 systems. For vertical gas-liquid annular flow the fraction of the liquid in the gas is controlled by the rate of atomization of the liquid film flowing along the wall and the rate of deposition of droplets entrained in the gas. Measurements of the rate of atomization are interpreted by a Kelvin-Helmholtz mechanism. This work is devoted to the study of steady thermocapillary-buoyant convection in a system of two horizontal superimposed immiscible liquid layers filling a lateral heated thin annular pool.The governing equations are solved using an asymptotic theory for the aspect ratios ε→ 0.Asymptotic solutions of the velocity and temperature fields are obtained in the core region away from the cylinder walls.In order to validate the asymptotic solutions,numerical simulations are also carried out and the results are compared to each other.It is found that the present asymptotic solutions are valid in most of the core region.And the applicability of the obtained asymptotic solutions decreases with the increase of the aspect ratio and the thickness ratio of the two layers.For a system of gallium arsenide (lower layer) and boron oxide (upper layer),the buoyancy slightly weakens the thermocapillary convection in the upper layer and strengthens it in the lower layer. 相似文献

The diffraction of acoustic waves by an infinitely long annular duct having a finite gap on the inner wall is investigated rigorously. The related boundary‐value problem is formulated into a modified Wiener–Hopf equation, which is then reduced to a pair of simultaneous Fredholm integral equations of the second kind. At the end of the analysis, numerical results illustrating the effects of the width of the coaxial cylindrical waveguide and the gap length on the diffraction phenomenon are presented.
