Abstract

The destruction of the filter for metal determination in atmospheric aerosols is an important step in the analysis. Nowadays the decomposition of this kind of sample has not been completely solved, so it is interesting to study new methods for filter sample attack. In the present work the application of the combustion method in a closed flask for mixed cellulose esters filter decomposition for lead determination is proposed. For this purpose optimum operating conditions as stopper flask design, sample size, flask volume, shaking time and volume and concentration of absorbing solution are established, and accuracy and precision of the proposed method using AAS for the measurements is given. The results obtained by the closed flask combustion are compared with those found by wet attack with HNO3. The method proposed is rapid, has low reagent contamination and no loss of lead by volatilization or by amalgamation occurs. This method shows an accuracy and a precision in good agreement with the standard method.  相似文献

Aluminum nanoparticles are of significant interest in enhancing the rate of energy release from propellants. One of the major impediments to their use is that bare aluminum is highly reactive, while oxide coated aluminum significantly decreases overall performance. We investigate creating aluminum nanoparticles with a thin carbon coating using either a laser induced plasma or a DC plasma-arc. The carbon coating was created by injecting ethylene (C2H4) directly downstream of the plasma. The elemental composition of the coated aluminum nanoparticles was measured in real time with a recently developed quantitative single particle mass spectrometer (SPMS). We found that the aluminum nanoparticles were coated with a carbon layer of thickness around 1–3 nm.The thermal and oxidative stability of these particles was determined by passing the aerosols through a heated flow reactor in a carrier flow of either air or argon, and measuring the aluminum, carbon and oxygen content in the particles with the single particle mass spectrometer. We found that below 700°C the coating was stable, but that the coating oxidized above ∼ ∼800°C. In contrast the carbon coating was thermally stable above ∼ ∼900°C. These results indicate that a carbon coating may be a suitable passivating agent.  相似文献

An aerosol charge analyzer has been constructed to measure the charge distribution of NaCl particles generated in the laboratory. A radioactive electrostatic charge neutralizer utilizing Po‐210 was used to neutralize the electrostatic charge of the particles. The atomization technique was used to generate NaCl particles with diameters of 0.2 to 0.8 μm, while the evaporation and condensation method was adopted to generate particles of 0.01 to 0.2 μm in diameter. The experimental data demonstrates that the absolute average particle charge depends on the particle diameter, and is higher than that calculated by the Boltzmann charge equilibrium for particles within the range of 0.2 to 0.8 μm. The charge increases with decreasing NaCl concentration. When these particles are neutralized using the Po‐210 neutralizer, it is found that the electrostatic charge reaches the Boltzmann charge equilibrium. For 0.01 to 0.2 μm NaCl particles generated using the evaporation and condensation method, test results show that the absolute average particle charge is higher than that calculated by the Boltzmann charge equilibrium for particles larger than 0.03 to 0.05 μm in diameter, while it is lower than that predicted by the Fuchs theory [1], for particles smaller than 0.03 to 0.05 μm. However, after charge neutralization, particles with diameter above 0.05 μm reach the Boltzmann charge equilibrium condition, and the charges for particles with diameters of 0.010 to 0.05 μm, agree well with Fuchs' theory.  相似文献

Ultrafine particles of typical chalcogenides have been produced by the advanced gas evaporation method (AGEM) and characterized by transmission electron microscopy. Zinc-blende nanoparticles less than 20-nm in size covered with SiO or carbon layer have been predominately produced. Many growth faults were observed in the zinc-blende particles above 20-nm in size. It has been found that particles less than 10-nm in size have no growth faults.  相似文献

Techniques that allow the elements present in the air to be determined in a simple and rapid manner are very attractive. Direct aerosol sampling techniques avoid the need to pretreat the filter via wet digestion in order to remove any sources of contamination, and they decrease the precipitation time significantly. Analyzers based on this technique can also determine the concentrations of elements in the air automatically in situ. This paper is concerned with the development of a novel analytical system that is based on electrostatically precipitating aerosols from the air into a graphite furnace. The equipment includes a Zeeman spectrometer with high frequency modulation polarization (MGA-915), and an electrostatic precipitation system incorporated into the analyzer. The high sensitivity of the system developed here means that it can be used to determine element concentrations in the air exhaled by humans, as well as those in ambient air.  相似文献

Compound specific isotopic analysis (CSIA) can provide information about the origin of analysed compounds – in this case, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). In the study, PAHs were extracted from three dust samples: winter and summer filter dust and tunnel dust. The measurement was performed using the method validated in our laboratory using pure, solid compounds and EPA 610 reference assortment.

CSIA required an appropriate clean-up method to avoid an unresolved complex in the gas chromatographic analysis usually found in the chromatography of PAHs. Extensive sample clean-up for this particular matrix was found to be necessary to obtain good gas chromatography–combustion–isotope ratio mass spectrometry analysis results. The sample purification method included two steps in which the sample is cleaned up and the aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons are separated.

The concentration of PAHs in the measured samples was low; so a large volume injection technique (100 μl) was applied. The δVPDB 13C was measured with a final uncertainty smaller than 1 ‰. Comparison of the δVPDB 13C signatures of PAHs extracted from different dust samples was feasible with this method and, doing so, significant differences were observed.  相似文献

The development of Gestion et Etude des Informations Spectroscopiques Atmosphériques (GEISA: Management and Study of Spectroscopic Information) was started over three decades at Laboratoire de Météorologie Dynamique (LMD) in France. GEISA is a computer accessible spectroscopic database, designed to facilitate accurate forward radiative transfer calculations using a line-by-line and layer-by-layer approach. More than 350 users have been registered for on-line use of the GEISA facilities. The current 2003 edition of GEISA (GEISA-03) is a system comprising three independent sub-databases devoted respectively to: line transition parameters, infrared and ultraviolet/visible absorption cross-sections, microphysical and optical properties of atmospheric aerosols.Currently, GEISA is involved in activities related to the assessment of the capabilities of IASI (Infrared Atmospheric Sounding Interferometer on board of the METOP European satellite) through the GEISA/IASI database derived from GEISA.The GEISA-03 content is presented, placing emphasis on molecular species of interest for Earth and planetary atmosphere studies, with details on the updated 2008 archive underway. A critical assessment on the needs, in terms of molecular parameters archive, related with recent satellite astrophysical missions is made.
