The fluid flow in distensible tubes is analysed by a finite element method based on an uncoupled solution of the equations of wall motion and fluid flow. Special attention is paid to the choice of proper boundary conditions. Computations were made for sinusoidal flow in a distensible uniform tube with the Womersley parameter α = 5, and a ratio between tube radius and wavelenth from 0·0001 to 0·5. The agreement between the numerical results and Womersley's analytic solution depends on the speed ratio between fluid and wave velocity, and is fair for speed ratios up to 0·05. The analysis of the flow field in a distensible tube with a local inhomogeneity revealed a marked influence of wave phenomena and wall motion on the velocity profiles. 相似文献

Summary In a previous contribution, higher-order strain-gradient models for linear elasticity have been studied in statics and dynamics [9]. In this paper, the extension towards damage mechanics is made. A damage model is derived from a discrete microstructure. In the homogenisation process, higher-order strain gradients appear both in the linear and in the nonlinear parts of the constitutive equation. Similar to the elastic models, stabilising and destabilising gradients can be distinguished. The stabilising or destabilising effect of each gradient term is determined. Opposite (competing) effects on the stability are found for the gradients of the elastic and the gradients in the damage response. Various truncations of the two strain-gradient series are studied, with the aim to arrive at a continuum model that fulfills the following requirements (i) it is derivable from a discrete microstructure, (ii) it is able to describe wave dispersion in elastic and damaging media properly, and (iii) it can be used to model strain-softening phenomena, i.e. it is a regularised model. The response of the various models is studied analytically and numerically. For the analytical investigation, dispersive waves are studied and critical wave lengths are derived. Numerical simulations are carried out with the element-free Galerkin method. This combined analytical/numerical approach allows to establish the role of the critical wave length both for mechanically stable and mechanically unstable models. For stabilised models, the critical wave length sets the width of the damaging zone. On the other hand, for destabilised models, the critical wave length sets a periodicity in the response that leads to divergence of the numerical scheme. The influence of the individual gradient terms on the stability and the structural ductility is verified in static and dynamic analyses.

A method based on the approximate wave functions for anisotropic media and the mode-matching approach is developed to solve the problem of the electromagnetic scattering from an anisotropic cylindrical dielectric shell. The cylindrical shell is assumed to be infinite in length, and it is illuminated by a plane wave or a cylindrical wave from a line source. The problem is two-dimensional and the solutions to both types of polarization (TE and TM) are presented. The validity of this solution is verified by comparing the numerical results with those in literatures and the previous calculations based on the exact wave functions for anisotropic media. Numerical results show the higher computational efficiency of the present method for bounded anisotropic media. 相似文献

Summary The applicability of SMA requires a matching of the properties with the technological needs. The metastability effects and the phase coexistence can produce, via atomic diffusion, some changes in the expected properties against time. The careful analysis of the external thermodynamic forces (stress) on the parent phase of a Cu-Al-Zn single crystal alloy establishes a proportional minor change in critical transformation stress (near 1 per cent of the external stress). Via the Clausius-Clapeyron coefficient, the stress effects show a similar behaviour but faster than the room temperature effects on the transformation temperature MS. In parent phase, the effect of the thermodynamic force regarded as an MS shift lies between 10 to 15 percent of temperature change. 相似文献

In this paper, a bandpass filter with all-metal insert, an inductive strip in the E-plane of a waveguide is analyzed by a prototype filter and the scattering matrix of the strip is calculated by electromagnetic fields theory theoretically. By means of matrix combining technique, the scattering matrix of a bandpass filter of this type is obtained. Proteins are fundamental molecules in biology that are also involved in a wide range of industrial and biotechnological processes. Consequently, many works in the literature have been devoted to the study of protein–protein and protein–surface interactions in aqueous solutions. The results have been usually interpreted within the frame of the classical Derjaguin–Landau–Verwey–Overbeek (DLVO) theory for colloidal systems. However, against the DLVO predictions, striking evidence of repulsive forces between proteins at high salt concentrations has been observed in different works based on the analysis of the second virial coefficient or on the direct measurement of protein interaction with an atomic force microscope. Hydration forces due to the adsorption of hydrated cations onto the negatively charged protein surfaces have been invoked to rationalize this anomalous repulsion. The hydration forces between proteins provide protein-covered particles with a non-DLVO colloidal stability at high salt concentrations, as different studies in the literature has proven. This review summarizes the most relevant results published so far on the presence of hydration forces between proteins and protein-coated colloidal particles. 相似文献
