The PlatoCAVE, the MiniCAVE, and the C2 are immersive stereoscopic projectionbased virtual reality environments oriented toward group interactions. As such they are particularly suited to collaborative efforts in data analysis and visual data mining. In this article, we provide an overview of virtual reality in general, including immersive projection technology, and the use of stereoscopic displays for data visualization. We discuss design considerations for the construction of these immersive environments including one-wall versus four-wall implementations, augmented reality, stereoscopic placement, head tracking, the use of LCD devices, polarized light stereo, voice control, and image synchronization.  相似文献

Scagnostics is a Tukey neologism for the term scatterplot diagnostics. Scagnostics are characterizations of the 2D distributions of orthogonal pairwise projections of a set of points in multidimensional Euclidean space. These characterizations include such measures as density, skewness, shape, outliers, and texture. We introduce a set of scagnostics measures based on graph theory and we analyze their distributions and performance. Our analysis is based on a restrictive set of criteria that must be met in order to have scagnostics measures that can be used effectively in exploratory data analysis.  相似文献

This paper reports on an experimental study of saturated flow boiling of R134a inside a circular vertical quartz tube coated with a transparent heater. The inner diameter of the tube was 1.33 mm and the heated length 235.5 mm. The flow pattern at high vapor qualities and the dryout of the liquid film were studied using a high speed CCD camera at the mass fluxes 47.4 and 124.4 kg/m2 s in up flow at 6.425 bar. The heat fluxes ranged from 5 to 13.6 kW/m2 for the lower mass flux and from 20 to 32.4 kW/m2 for the higher mass flux.

The behavior of the flow close to dryout was found to be different at low and high mass flux. At low mass flux the location of the liquid front fluctuated with waves passing high up in the tube. In between the waves, a thin film was formed, slowly evaporating without breaking up.

At high mass flux the location of the liquid front was more stable. In this case the liquid film was seen to break up into liquid streams and dry zones on the tube wall.  相似文献

Estimating phylogenetic trees is an important problem in evolutionary biology, environmental policy, and medicine. Although trees are estimated, their uncertainties are generally discarded in statistical models for tree-valued data. Here, we explicitly model the multivariate uncertainty of tree estimates. We consider both the cases where uncertainty information arises extrinsically (through covariate information) and intrinsically (through the tree estimates themselves). The latter case is applicable to any procedure for tree estimation, and thus has broad relevance to the entire field of phylogenetics. The importance of accounting for tree uncertainty in tree space is demonstrated in two case studies. In the first instance, differences between gene trees are small relative to their uncertainties, while in the second, the differences are relatively large. Our main goal is visualization of tree uncertainty, and we demonstrate advantages of our method with respect to reproducibility, speed, and preservation of topological differences compared to visualization based on multidimensional scaling. The proposal highlights that phylogenetic trees are estimated in an extremely high-dimensional space, resulting in uncertainty information that cannot be discarded. Most importantly, it is a method that allows biologists to diagnose whether differences between gene trees are biologically meaningful or due to uncertainty in estimation.  相似文献

This paper presents an experimental and numerical investigation of three-dimensional shock wave reflections over a corner of two wedges intersecting perpendicularly in a shock tube. Experiments were conducted in a diaphragmless shock tube equipped with double-exposure diffuse holographic interferometry in which the time interval between the first and second exposure was set to be . This arrangement clearly visualized complex configurations of three-dimensional shock wave reflections. A numerical study was also carried out for interpreting these holographic interferometric observations by using the Weighted Average Flux (WAF) method to solve the three-dimensional unsteady compressible Euler equations. It was found that along the line of the intersection of these two wedges, two Mach stems intersected each other resulting in the formation of a Mach stem which leaned forward. Two C2H6-selective metal-organic framework (MOF) adsorbents with ultrahigh stability, high surface areas, and suitable pore size have been designed and synthesized for one-step separation of ethane/ethylene (C2H6/C2H4) under humid conditions to produce polymer-grade pure C2H4. Experimental results reveal that these two MOFs not only adsorb a high amount of C2H6 but also display good C2H6/C2H4 selectivity verified by fixed bed column breakthrough experiments. Most importantly, the good water stability and hydrophobic pore environments make these two MOFs capable of efficiently separating C2H6/C2H4 under humid conditions, exhibiting the benchmark performance among all reported adsorbents for separation of C2H6/C2H4 under humid conditions. Moreover, the affinity sites and their static adsorption energies were successfully revealed by single crystal data and computation studies. Adsorbents described in this work can be used to address major chemical industrial challenges.  相似文献

We describe a software tool that allows one to visualize and analyze the importance of each individual steric interaction in a molecular mechanics force field. ANLIZE is presently implemented for the Dreiding force field for use with the Cerius2 software package, but could be implemented in any molecular mechanics package with a graphical user interface. ANLIZE calculates individual interactions in the force field, sorts them by size, and displays them in several ways from a menu of choices. This allows the user to scan through selected interactions to visualize which interactions are the primary determinants of preferred conformations. The features of ANLIZE are illustrated using 18-crown-6 as an example, and the factors governing conformational preference in 18-crown-6 are demonstrated. Users of molecular mechanics packages are encouraged to demand this functionality from commercial software producers.  相似文献

The flow pattern within an enhanced tubular heat exchanger equipped with a reciprocating scraping device is experimentally analysed. The insert device, specially designed to avoid fouling and to enhance heat transfer, has also been used to produce ice slurry. It consists of several circular perforated scraping discs mounted on a coaxial shaft. The whole is moved alternatively along the axial direction by a hydraulic cylinder.The phase-averaged velocity fields of the turbulent flow have been obtained with PIV technique for both scraping semi-cycles. Special attention has been paid to the effect of the non-dimensional scraping velocity and the Reynolds number in the flow field. CFD simulations provide support for the identification of the flow patterns and the parameter assessment extension.The results show how the scraping parameters affect the turbulence level produced in the flow and therefore the desired heat transfer enhancement.  相似文献
