Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) possess exceptional mechanical properties, and when introduced into a metal matrix, it could significantly improve the elastic stiffness and plastic strength of the nanocomposite. But current processing techniques often lead to an agglomerated state for the CNTs, and the pristine CNT surface may not be able to fully transfer the load at the interface. These two conditions could have a significant impact on its strengthening capability. In this article we develop a two-scale micromechanical model to analyze the effect of CNT agglomeration and interface condition on the plastic strength of CNT/metal composites. The large scale involves the CNT-free matrix and the clustered CNT/matrix inclusions, and the small scale addresses the property of these clustered inclusions, each containing the randomly oriented, transversely isotropic CNTs and the matrix. In this development the concept of secant moduli and a field fluctuation technique have been adopted. The outcome is an explicit set of formulae that allows one to calculate the overall stress-strain relations of the CNT nanocomposite. It is shown that CNTs are indeed a very effective strengthening agent, but CNT agglomeration and imperfect interface condition can seriously reduce the effective stiffness and elastoplastic strength. The developed theory has also been applied to examine the size (diameter) effect of CNTs on the elastic and elastoplastic response of the composites, and it was found that, with a perfect interface contact, decreasing the CNT radius would enhance the overall stiffness and plastic strength, but with an imperfect interface the size effect is reversed. A comparison of the theory with some experiments on the CNT/Cu nanocomposite serves to verify the applicability of the theory, and it also points to the urgent need of eliminating all CNT agglomeration and improving the interface condition if the full potential of CNT reinforcement is to be realized. 相似文献

Interesting physics emerges from studying a population of reproducing individuals. Each can be regarded as a random walker, but it can either duplicate or die. Novel features of the collective behavior are quite surprising: if individuals reproduce or die freely, the life expectation is proportional to the size of the population, and if it is kept constant, the center of mass moves in space as if it were a single walker (i.e., the diffusion constant is independent of population's size). The $1/f$ noise in multiwalled carbon nanotubes bundles has been investigated between the frequency range of 0.1 to 30 Hz. At room temperature the noise spectrum is standard 1/f, and its level is proportional to the square of the bias voltage. With decreasing temperature the noise level also decreases. At 4.2 K the noise level follows a non-monotonic dependence against the bias voltage, showing a peak at a certain bias voltage, meanwhile its frequency dependence also deviates from the 1/f trend. This anomalous behaviour is discussed within the picture of environmental quantum fluctuation of charge transport in the samples. 相似文献

Transmission fluctuations measured on a flowing suspension of particles with a high spatial and temporal resolution can be used to measure the particle size distribution and particle concentration. The theory of transmission fluctuation spectrometry (TFS) was recently developed, whereby the statistical behavior of the entire suspension is described on the basis of a single monolayer, in combination with a layer model describing the suspension as a series of independent monolayers. 利用最小偏差分析法,分析了我国GDP增长率的周期性特征,并对我国今后几年的GDP增长率进行了预测.分析的结果是:从1953—2006年,我国GDP增长率存在着7年左右的小周期,15年左右的中周期,19年左右的中长周期和28年左右的大周期,而且随着时间的推移,经济周期的波动幅度逐渐趋小,反映出经济增长的稳定性增强.预测的结果是:今后几年(2年或更长一段时间)我国GDP增长率应该保持在10%左右,波动的区间为[9%,11%]. 相似文献

The quantum fluctuation spectra of phase quadratures of the fluorescent light from a coherently driven two-level atom damping in a common vacuum is investigated. We find that by optimally choosing the Rabi frequency of the driving field, detuning between the atom and the driving field, and phase of the local oscillator the strong sideband squeezing in the spectrum of the optimal phase quadrature can be created and the degree of squeezing in the sidebands can reach about 56%. 相似文献
