Stationary point analysis of the one-dimensional lattice Landau gauge fixing functional, aka random phase XY Hamiltonian

We study the stationary points of what is known as the lattice Landau gauge fixing functional in one-dimensional compact U(1) lattice gauge theory, or as the Hamiltonian of the one-dimensional random phase XY model in statistical physics. An analytic solution of all stationary points is derived for lattices with an odd number of lattice sites and periodic boundary conditions. In the context of lattice gauge theory, these stationary points and their indices are used to compute the gauge fixing partition function, making reference in particular to the Neuberger problem. Interpreted as stationary points of the one-dimensional XY Hamiltonian, the solutions and their Hessian determinants allow us to evaluate a criterion which makes predictions on the existence of phase transitions and the corresponding critical energies in the thermodynamic limit.     

Hysteresis suppression improvement of polycrystalline silicon thin-film transistors by two-step hydrogenation

The effect of two-step hydrogenation, consisting of plasma hydrogenation and annealing in hydrogen, on the hysteresis phenomenon of metal-induced unilaterally crystallized silicon thin-film transistors (MIUC-Si TFTs) was investigated. The large hysteresis level of the conventional MIUC-Si TFTs caused a wide variation of the drain current with the previous gate voltage. As the plasma exposure time increased, the plasma hydrogenation commonly used for stability in poly-Si TFTs was found to increase the hysteresis level of MIUC-Si TFTs after a minimum point. This is because plasma-induced damages correlated with unique defects of MIUC-Si such as metal-related weak bonds, are accompanied by passivation. The following annealing repaired the damages. Consequently the hysteresis level was lower, which resulted in a narrower variation of the drain current.

A generating function for the cubic interactions of higher spin fields

We present an off-shell generating function for all cubic interactions of higher spin gauge fields constructed in Manvelyan et al. (2010) [1]. It is a generalization of the on-shell generating function proposed by Sagnotti and Taronna [2], is written in a very compact way, and turns out to have a remarkable structure.     

Quantum gauge fields and flat connections in 2-dimensional BF theory

The 2-dimensional BF theory is both a gauge theory and a topological Poisson σ-model corresponding to a linear Poisson bracket. In [3], Torossian discovered a connection which governs correlation functions of the BF theory with sources for the B-field. This connection is flat, and it is a close relative of the KZ connection in the WZW model. In this Letter, we show that flatness of the Torossian connection follows from (properly regularized) quantum equations of motion of the BF theory.     

Continuum limit of overlap valence quarks on a twisted mass sea

We study a lattice QCD mixed action with overlap valence quarks on two flavours of Wilson maximally twisted mass sea quarks. Employing three different matching conditions to relate both actions to each other, we investigate the continuum limit by using three values of the lattice spacing ranging from a≈0.05 fm$a\approx 0.05\text{fm}$ to 0.08 fm$0.08\text{fm}$. A particular emphasis is put on the effect on physical observables of the topological zero modes appearing in the valence overlap operator. We estimate the region of parameter space where the contribution from these zero modes is sufficiently small such that their effects can be safely controlled and a restoration of unitarity of the mixed action in the continuum limit is reached.     

A globally convergent method for computing multiple vortices in a supersymmetric field theory

Computation of the solutions to the gauge field equations is known of great importance for the simulation of various particle physics systems. In this work, we establish a globally convergent iterative method for computing the multiple vortex solutions arising in a self-dual system of non-Abelian gauge field equations derived in a supersymmetric theory model. Using this method, we present a few numerical examples which demonstrate the effectiveness of the method and, at the same time, provide a concrete realization of the soliton-like behavior of the vortexlines concentrated around centers of vortices, which is believed to be essential for linear confinement in QCD.
