Nine finite difference schemes using primitive variables on various grid arrangements were systematically tested on a benchmark problem of two-dimensional incompressible Navier–Stokes flows. The chosen problem is similar to the classical lid-driven cavity flow, but has a known exact solution. Also, it offers the reader an opportunity to thoroughly evaluate accuracies of various conceptual grid arrangements. Compared to the exact solution, the non-staggered grid scheme with higher-order accuracy was found to yield an accuracy significantly better than others. In terms of ‘overall performance’, the so-called 4/1 staggered grid scheme proved to be the best. The simplicity of this scheme is the primary benefit. Furthermore, the scheme can be changed into a non-staggered grid if the pressure is replaced by the pressure gradient as a field variable. Finally, the conventional staggered grid scheme developed by Harlow and Welch also yields relatively high accuracy and demonstrates satisfactory overall performance.  相似文献

We discuss in this paper the numerical simulation of compressible viscous flows by a combination of finite element methods for the space approximation, an implicit second-order multistep scheme for the time discretization and GMRES iterative methods for solving the non-linear problems encountered at each time step. Numerical results corresponding to flows around aerofoils and aerospace vehicles illustrate the possibilities of these methods.  相似文献

It is generally accepted that mixed and penalty finite element methods can routinely solve the incompressible Navier–Stokes equations. This paper shows by means of simple examples that problems can arise even for the simpler Stokes equations. The causes of the problem fall in either of two categories: round-off and ill conditioning, or a poor choice of pressure discretization. Nonsensical solutions can be obtained. Computation of the discrete divergence of the flow field is a simple and powerful tool to diagnose such conditions. In the first part of the paper several simple techniques for minimizing the effect of round-off are reviewed. In the second part it is shown that, for coupled flow problems, care must be exercised in the choice of the pressure approximation. A unified treatment of various observations by different workers is presented. This should prove useful for general users of the finite element method.  相似文献

Numerical solutions are presented for two-dimensional low Reynolds number flow in a rotating tank with stationary barriers. The boundary element method is employed, assuming straight panels and quadratic source distribution. The feasibility of repositioning the nodes as a way to minimize the error is explored. A stretching parameter places smaller elements near the re-entrant regions. Elementary error analysis shows uniform improvement in the solution with stretching. The changing eddy pattern for different numbers and sizes of the barriers is compared with experimental results.  相似文献

The main subject of this work is to study the concept of very weak solution for the hydrostatic Stokes system with mixed boundary conditions (non-smooth Neumann conditions on the rigid surface and homogeneous Dirichlet conditions elsewhere on the boundary). In the Stokes framework, this concept has been studied by Conca [Rev. Mat. Apl. 10 (1989)] imposing non-smooth Dirichlet boundary conditions.In this paper, we introduce the dual problem that turns out to be a hydrostatic Stokes system with non-free divergence condition. First, we obtain strong regularity for this dual problem (which can be viewed as a generalisation of the regularity results for the hydrostatic Stokes system with free divergence condition obtained by Ziane [Appl. Anal. 58 (1995)]). Afterwards, we prove existence and uniqueness of very weak solution for the (primal) problem.As a consequence of this result, the existence of strong solution for the non-stationary hydrostatic Navier-Stokes equations is proved, weakening the hypothesis over the time derivative of the wind stress tensor imposed by Guillén-González, Masmoudi and Rodríguez-Bellido [Differential Integral Equations 50 (2001)].  相似文献

A new finite-element based method of calculating non-linear wave loads on offshore structures in extreme seas is presented in this paper. The diffraction wave field is modelled using Stokes wave theory developed to second order. Wave loads and free surface elevations are obtained for fixed surface-piercing structures by solving a boundary value problem for the second-order velocity potential. Special attention has been given to the radiation condition for the second-order diffraction field. Results are presented for three test examples, the vertical cylinders of Kim and Yue and of Chakrabarti, and an elliptic cylinder. These results demonstrate that early problems with the application of second-order theory arising from inadequate radiation conditions have been overcome.  相似文献

The paper describes the basic components of a turbomachinery blade design system in use within Rolls-Royce. A number of modelling aspects of the advanced computational methods in use and under development are reviewed together with areas for future research and development. A quasi-3D blade design system which is used for both compressors and turbines is described covering through-flow and blade-to-blade analysis. Various features of blade-to-blade analysis are discussed including the use of compatible design and analysis modes and coupled boundary layer analysis capable of handling attached and separated flow; examples are included to show capabilities. Advances being made in the development and application of Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes models are covered showing capabilities with regard to loss and heat transfer prediction. A fully coupled quasi-3D through-flow and blade-to-blade analysis system is described and results presented to show basic capabilities. The need for 3D flow analysis is discussed and the elements of a 3D blade design system presented showing how this links to the traditional quasi-3D system. Examples are given showing basic capabilities of the methods available and under development. Finally areas for future development are presented indicating the mathematical and numerical modelling problems to be addressed.  相似文献
